Each subject has provided information regarding course content, modes of assessment, skills required as well as progression and career links beyond school years.At Blessed Trinity College we have a number of pathways to success to choose from for Post-16 study. 12 13Senior Prefects and Prefects fulfil a valuable role in school as a link between the students and staff, by modelling expected standards of conduct and in promoting the school to the local community. The roles significantly enhance a student’s CV and are particularly sought after by Universities, third level institutions and employers. Students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through being a Mentor or involvement with the Student Voice Group. Post-16 students have the opportunity to support and mentor Junior School students on a regular basis through a variety of activities. Mentoring Training is facilitated through the enrichment programme for these students.Prefects are chosen from Post-16 students based on their maturity, work ethic and contribution to school life. From within the Prefects in Year 14 two Head Boys, two Head Girls, Deputy Head Boys and Deputy Head Girls are selected. The role of Head Boy has helped me in many ways such as my ability to speak in public and to encourage the students for their futures. This role has given me so many opportunities to go to a range of inspiring events and meet lots of new people. I am excited for the next opportunity it will provide. In my final years of school, I have enjoyed working with the Student Leadership Team and coming up with new ways to help improve our experience in school. I have enjoyed the support of my teachers and Care Team who have helped shape me into the man I am today. In the future I know I will carry the school core values with me to continue to grow and develop myself. This school has been amazing and has helped me tremendously throughout the years, both inside and outside of school and I will definitely miss school. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be the Head Boy of Blessed Trinity College.Rachael Peak - Head GirlBeing an advocate for Blessed Trinity College has always been important to me, which is why I decided to apply for the role of Head Girl. I believe this has helped me develop my confidence, leadership, independence, and team working skills. I decided to push myself to apply for Head Girl as I wanted to give back to the school community that helped shaped me into the person I am today.Since becoming Head Girl my confidence has improved greatly as I take pride in not only being a role model for the younger students in the school but also my peers. The responsibilities I have had as Head Girl has included working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, planning, and organising fundraiser events, and public speaking. I am honoured to be one of the Head Girls in such a wonderful school, working closely with the caring and considerate staff who genuinely care about all their students and their education. My favourite part about the role is the involvement with other students and the close relationships built with others. These skills and qualities I have developed over this year will greatly help me in the future and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to do so.Christopher Benson - Head BoyI originally did not have the confidence to apply for the role of Head Boy, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and after being interviewed and selected for the role, I took the position with pride and respect for my school. The opportunities I experienced thanks to the role of Head Boy, have filled me with pride and self-confidence both in and outside school. I had the opportunity to take part in the Queen’s Pathway Programme, which gave me an insight into life at university which was an amazing experience and allowed me to develop new friendships. I have been to many events to represent the school as well as the opportunities to work with younger students and the Care Teams and teachers involved with them and organise events for the students. Being Head Boy of the College has inspired me to reach a new level in my abilities, such as public speaking and acting as an ambassador of Blessed Trinity College. It has allowed me to develop into a confident and outgoing member of society and I am delighted to have had this experience.Jennie Crawford - Head GirlThe role of Head Girl was always a role which I hoped to achieve, and I was very excited when I was appointed to the role. This opportunity has allowed me to build my confidence, independence, and leadership skills. I wanted to give back to the community and school which has helped to shape me into the person I am today. Since taking on the role of Head Girl in such an incredible school, which is filled with amazing staff, who greatly care for both their students and their education, I have taken pride and been a positive role model for the younger students. I also enjoy being there for the students as a person they can talk to, and if they need help with their work as a mentor and advocate for them. This role has let me gain skills in organising, public speaking, teamwork, as well as gaining leadership qualities. This role has also allowed me as an individual to build the skills necessary for progression to my future career and university pathways. 16Additionally, our students will have opportunities to enhance their academic and practical skills through training programmes offered by the Queen’s Pathway Programme and The Scholars Programme. CEIAG follows a timetabled process throughout Post-16 and support is provided for students to make applications to university through the UCAS process and applications for Foundation Degrees at FE Colleges, as well as help with filling in applications for employment and apprenticeship programmes.In addition, students are kept up to date with local labour market information and any job, course, apprenticeship or work experience opportunities that come into school. Added to this is a series of visiting external speakers, university visits, and careers fairs, all of which add up to a comprehensive support package. At Blessed Trinity we have built strong links with local businesses, schools and outside agencies that provide us with ongoing assistance in facilitating the development of our students in Post-16.Students are offered the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars in a range of career areas and every student will undertake at least one work experience in Year 13. Our bespoke Step-Up Programmes offer one day a week, in an appropriate work or training placement, to further develop their employability and experience,Students are carefully prepared for work experience and employers provide a report to the school on the student’s progress. Since universities place a lot of emphasis on the value of relevant work experience, it forms an integral part pf our CEIAG programme. Students are encouraged to reflect on their experiences whilst on placement and examine their career choice in light of their work experiences in a career area. Blessed Trinity College has an established CEIAG programme across all key stages which is designed to equip students with the skills and experience needed to make sound career choices and to progress to third level education or the world of work. There is a significant involvement of local businesses and academic institutions which enhance the CEIAG programme throughout the key stages. As competition for jobs and places at universities increases, it is becoming even more important that students participate in extracurricular activities, volunteering, fundraising and/or community work both inside and outside of school. During their time in Post-16 students will be offered numerous opportunities to get involved in voluntary/community/charity work. Progression RoutesBlessed Trinity Cares20 21Year on year the majority of our students choose undergraduate courses such as Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Science, Computer Science Business Management, Criminology with Forensic Science, Digital Media, Early Childhood Studies, Art, Hospitality Management and Tourism, Nursing, Physical Education and Sport. They began their studies at various Higher Education institutions such as Queen’s University, Ulster University, University of Cumbria, Liverpool John Moores, Stranmillis University College, Belfast Metropolitan College and Northern Regional College. Others progressed to a variety of Further Education courses at Belfast Metropolitan College, Northern Regional College, secured an apprenticeship eg: PWC, took up training opportunities or made the transition directly into employment in their chosen field.I decided to continue my studies in Blessed Trinity College for my A levels because I could study the subjects, I was passionate about, such as Double Award Science and Health and Social Care. In addition to this, I was aware, coming into my academic studies, that I would have access to a variety of guidance and support from both my teachers in these subjects and from staff members across the school. I think it was because of this environment that I was able to realise my full potential and develop my career by getting into university. I have nothing but positive things to say about Blessed Trinity College, the confidence it has given me, and the wonderful friends I made there.Milka AbyI joined Blessed Trinity College in 3rd Year from another school and couldn’t be any happier with my decision. The support I received at Blessed Trinity College made me want to work harder towards my goals and made me feel like anything is possible.
