Implementation of Project Management Tool In 2014 the evolution of the documentary FARMLAND s communication plan and distribution efforts revealed a need for a more collaborative method to managing communication processes and content As the organization began managing more projects internally that need intensified and I began the transition to using formal project management principals Implemented and managed organization wide project management Smartsheet collaboration tool Initially it was used to manage many of the day to day organizational processes and FARMLAND distribution then extended for use with all projects across the organization

Discovering Farmland The Partnership About The U S Farmers and Ranchers Alliance USFRA partnered with Discovery Education the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K 12 classrooms to develop a curriculum guide inspired by FARMLAND a film by Director James Moll The curriculum serves as an educational resource for high school teachers on topics surrounding food choices agriculture sustainability and entrepreneurship while covering food issues such as antibiotics GMOs crop inputs and sustainability The curriculum was designed to meets Next Generation Science Standards C3 Social Studies Standards and agribusiness standards under the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium NASDCTEc Need for Secondary School Based Agricultural Education Nearly 60 000 high skilled agriculture job openings expected annually in U S Yet only 35 000 graduates available to fill them In next 5 years 40 of food ag environmental science jobs will go unfulfilled January 2017 USDA NIFA funding to strengthen ag education in K 12 Of the 3 5 mil 2016 17 high school graduates the almost 8 000 schoolbased agricultural education programs reach only 7 of these students

MN CA IMMERSION METRICS PRE SURVEY RESULTS POST SURVEY RESULTS 1 survey 41 Teacher participants in total were surveyed 26 taught science 7 taught social studies 8 taught other STEM classes Majority noted teaching several subjects and grade levels Over half have taught some type of agriculture with majority also having taught science A third felt they did not have the resources or knowledge to adequate teach agriculture The majority reported being very interested in teaching agriculture In both the MN CA groups the topics Crop Protection Animal Welfare Care Biotechnology Hormones Ag Technology were of equal interest All but 4 teachers were interested in bringing their students to a farm Pre survey about half of the teachers reported having a very positive perception of conventional agriculture 5 teachers reported a somewhat negative perception 40 Teacher participants in total were surveyed When asked to rate the overall program participants responses were 27 excellent and 13 as good As a result of the program three fourths of teachers now felt they had sufficient resources to teach agriculture in their classrooms Those that responded no said they wanted more information about the Discovering Farmland curriculum and additional accurate resources for support and research Post survey three fourths of the participants responded with a very positive perception of conventional agriculture a 25 increase Of the 5 participants that reported in the presurvey a somewhat negative perception of conventional agriculture post survey none reported somewhat negative perception
