8 MAY PML NEWSADMINISTRATIONGENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGEJOE POWELL – PCAM, CCAM-LS, CMCA, AMS GENERAL MANAGERPML ANNUAL FINANCIAL AUDIT AND REPORTOur independent CPA rm has completed the 2024 PML Annual Audit and copies of the subsequent Annual Financial Report have been mailed to the membership. I am pleased to report that the auditors have given PML a clean nancial bill of health. A copy of the 2024 Annual Financial report from our auditors is posted to the Ocial PML Website for member review at their convenience at www.pinemountainlake.com. Look for the nancial information section.PML ROADS REFURBISHMENT PROJECTWe received the bids for our roads refurbishment project and the board has awarded the contract to the J.B. Bostick company. The final contract was reviewed by Association General Counsel and updated accordingly. The contractor is planning on starting the project this month and it is expected to last 7 days. The roads project areas are not in the same locations as the PG&E undergrounding project. Nevertheless, we are taking into consideration equipment and trucks and their points of ingress and egress in an effort to minimize impacts to the membership. PML ADMINISTRATION NOTARY PUBLICFor many years, a PML Admin employee has served as our in-house Notary Public, as we often have many documents that require signature verification. It is also a great service for our members. The staff member who served as our notary retired, so Shari Pingree one of our current Admin employees stepped up, went through the training courses and became certified and sworn in as our new notary and she has already been providing this service to our members. We offer the service by appointment only during normal business hours. The normal price for the notary services is $15 per signature, but PML members receive the discounted rate of $10 per signature. We would like to congratulate Shari and thank her for taking on the additional responsibility of assisting members with this important service.PREPAYMENT OF ELECTION ADS IN THE PML NEWSIn the past some member candidates running in the board elections have refused to pay for the cost of election ad space after the advertisement or message was published in the PML News. It should be noted that none of these candidates have ever been elected to the Board. To ensure that we collect the appropriate fee in accordance with our published rate schedule, we are initiating a new publication accounting policy that all PMLA election related advertisements are paid in advance before publication. If an election advertisement is submitted without payment in advance, it will not be published in the PML News.CALL FOR CANDIDATES FOR PML DIRECTORS ELECTIONSpeaking of elections, the annual PML Directors Election Call for Candidates notice and candidates’ application information was mailed to the membership on April 14, 2025. There will be two open director positions coming up in August and the Annual Meeting of the Members and Election of Directors will be held here at the Lake Lodge on August 16th.MANUFACTURED/MODULAR HOMES IN PMLRecently a manufactured home was delivered in two sections to a property on Tannahill Drive through the Main Gate exit lane and placed on the foundation. We posted a photo of the sections on social media during the delivery to warn members about the temporary vehicle traffic impacts for safety purposes. After the posting several members questioned or commented that they did not realize that PML allows manufactured homes under our governing documents. This has been the case for many decades. To ensure that the manufactured homes look just like regular stick-built homes and blend in with the aesthetics of our community, there are certain requirements that must be followed in order to comply. Roof pitch and the length of the eaves, the installation of front entry decking design is taken into consideration as well as home placement and other factors. Regardless, the home is placed on a permanent foundation. We recommend that members take the time to read their bylaws, CC&Rs, rules and policies to become more familiar with what is and is not allowed in our community. Brand new buyers are provided all of these documents when they purchase in PML and we maintain copies on our official PML Website for easy access by all members. Get to know the rules. These are your documents and they are important in maintaining property values and the environmental aspects of our community.PML ACCESS GATES REPLACED WITH NEW UNITSPML Access Gate 3 near the parking exit of the Grill and Golf Course has been replaced with a new unit. And the Main Gate property owner lane access gate has been replaced with a new unit as well. We are replacing our access gate equipment in phases two a year or as needed if the gate arm and communication system malfunction to a point that they are inoperable. e new gate equipment is less costly and more easily maintained than the decades old spoke wheel internal cable system of the past. PML ADVISORY COMMITTEE OPENINGSWe currently have openings on three committees, specifically, the Covenants Committee, Equine Advisory Committee and Long-Range Planning Committee. Members can apply online by going to the (See GM Message on next page)

MAY PML NEWS 11It’s springtime and the busy summer season is right around the corner. We have a lot to do and plenty of projects are in full swing.e roll out of the new Point of Sale System is moving along nicely. is upgrade will enable us to replace a seriously aging system with a new one that will enable us to interface with our accounting software more eciently, handle credit card payments more eectively, and allow us to use mobile devices that will dramatically improve our coverage area and level of service. Improvements to our collections process is really starting to bear fruit. We are now able to address delinquent accounts more quickly and eectively. is has had a notably positive impact on cash ow and has reduced the burden of unpaid assessments on the Association. e rate at which we successfully negotiate and implement payment plans for those that are encountering diculties is increasing, and the time and dollar amounts of delinquencies overall is decreasing signicantly. ough sales revenue leading up to the busy season is trending slightly below expectations, the management team has done an outstanding job managing variable costs. is means even though revenue is trending about $108k below budget as of the close of last month, the net subsidy for the association is tracking almost $116k or 5% below budget. Of the year-to-date underbudget amount, almost $90k of that savings occurred within the last month, and as revenue picks up going into the summer season, the outlook is even more positive than what we have seen to date.Making less, and also spending just enough less to keep our numbers moving in the right direction, all while keeping up our level of service; is even more challenging than is sounds. e team has done a great job hitting that sweet spot perfectly. We are also in the nal stages of selecting our reserve study specialist for the new year, and will have boots on the ground before summertime. We are vetting this new vendor thoroughly and are going to select one of the top names in the industry. is new vendor will help us continue to improve the precision with which we manage our assets and fund our reserves that support them. Regarding the reserves, our fund is now at almost $4 million, very close to our record high level a couple of years ago. At our current levels, we can fund almost three years of budgeted spending with what is in our bank account as of today. is is an outstanding accomplishment. PMLA has weathered some challenging times in the last few years, and is now in the best cash position we have seen in the last two decades. Another outstanding accomplishment, and hats o to the team that helped make it happen. anks to the sta hard at work for the association every day, and all the members that invest their time to help it all happen. It’s a great community supported by a great team. We couldn’t do it without you. Questions or comments? MAY PML NEWS 13DO YOUHAVE YOUR PIN?Since PML is a private gated community, we want to oer our property owners a secure way to call in guests. When you become a member of PML you are assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to utilize either when calling in a guest pass or using the Gate Access Internet program. This PIN identifies you to sta without you having to be present. This is a confidential number and should not be shared. When you call the Main Gate to authorize a guest or vendor access into PML, you will be asked for your PIN. The sta will look up the number in the computer and use it to confirm your identity before entering the guest information. You must have this number to utilize the Gate Access Internet program as well. If you do not know your PIN or have any questions, please contact the Administration Oce at: 1-209-962-8600Monday – Friday from 8 am – 4:30 pm and we will gladly supply this information to you.PML AUTOMATIC PAYMENT PROGRAMTaking the time to write a check for your monthly assessment payment can be time consuming and costly. MAY PML NEWS 17ADMINISTRATIONTEE TO GREENROB ABBOTT – GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENTGolf course etiquette refers to an understanding of golf rules as they pertain to fellow golfers, Golf Shop staff, Golf Maintenance crews, and the Course itself. It is unanimous in the golf industry that many golfers still do not do an adequate job repairing ball marks and divots or ignore them all together. With Aerication of the greens behind us and the healing nearly complete, it is disheartening to see an abundance of ball marks on our greens. On an average day, my greens mower operator xes 10-20 ball marks per green; this is a perfect example of poor etiquette. Poorly repaired or old ball marks can take weeks to heal instead of days. I have touched on this before but am going to do it again and again. Balls that land in an unrepaired divot place the golfer at a disadvantage, as do ball marks. As a rule, a ball mark repaired within 10 minutes will heal with a smooth surface within two to three days. An unrepaired ball mark may take as long as three weeks to heal, but the result will be an uneven putting surface. When replacing a divot, the policy is to replace the divot so the grass can send down new roots. If so, replace the turf in the same direction it came out, and tap down rmly so the mower won’t pull it back out. Smooth the divot with your feet, gently pulling the sides of the divot hole to the center. Ball mark repair is one of the easiest ways to help maintain our course and doing so correctly is invaluable. 1. Use the proper tool for the job, such as a pronged ball mark repair tool. 2. Insert the tool at the edges of the mark, not into the middle of the depression. 3. Bring the edges together, gently twisting; continue working around the ball mark pulling the surrounding turf toward the center. 4. Gently tap out the repair with either your foot or the bottom of your putter. e process of repair should be as automatic for every golfer as driving to the course. Let’s police ourselves and gently remind our friends and families to respect the process and leave them as good or better than we nd them.YOUR PART!Replacing Divots – PML is a DIVOT FIRST facility; that means that if the divot is intact or even a portion of the divot is intact, we want you to replace the divot rst and press the divot down rmly with your foot. When an intact divot is replaced, it will begin to root right away but a mulch lled divot will take weeks to ll in. If the divot hole is not totally lled in by the divot that you replaced then ll the rest of the hole with mulch and press down the divot rmly with your foot. If the divot is not intact, then ll the divot hole with mulch and smooth the mulch with your foot so it is level with the ground.Repairing Ball Marks – is is one of the major negatives in our great game; players either do not know how to repair ball marks correctly or don’t even attempt to repair them. Here is the correct way to repair a ball mark: Insert the divot tool just outside the edge of the ball mark, use the divot tool to mend in the outside portion if the ball mark towards the middle. en use you putter to tap down the repaired turf. If a ball mark is repaired properly, you will not even be able to tell that there was a ball mark. NEVER PULL UP THE MIDDLE OF THE BALL MARK.Raking Bunkers – We are back to normal procedures concerning bunkers; PLEASE make sure that you rake the bunker after you have hit your shot.Golf Carts – Driving golf carts on the fairways has a negative eect on turf conditions over time. PLEASE use the 90-degree rule posted in each golf cart in order to minimize the cart trac on the fairways.(From the Fringe from previous page)

MAY PML NEWS 23Saturday, May 3, 2025 is Wildre Community Preparedness Day. is is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action and raise awareness to reduce wildre risks. Similar to last year, this year’s theme is defending the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ). Research shows there are proven methods for preparing properties for re season. By planning projects such as creating a 5-foot safety zone, also known as Zone 0, around your house can go a long way to protect your home from wildre. Wildre researchers have proven that maintaining Zone 0 (0-5 feet from your home) is crucial in defending your home from wildre. Since the majority of homes destroyed in a wildre are ignited by ying embers, start abatement work in this zone and work out from there. Too often people overlook some of the hazards closest to their structures and improvements. One of the most common issues we see around PMLA in relation to Zone 0 are: the use of bark, mulch and other ammable materials used as landscape in the rst 0-5. Although beautiful, it’s not worth the risk of creating that perfect fuel bed for embers to take hold in a wildre scenario. We recommend using noncombustible materials such as rock, gravel, pavers, bare dirt, or concrete for this application. It’s also common to see plants, shrubs, brush, small trees, and other ammable vegetation up against homes. is vegetation needs to be regularly maintained or it will build up dead dry material over time which can help a re take hold. Often times, we recommend complete removal of this vegetation depending upon the species and its ammability. Below are a few more tips for this zone provided to us by CalFire.Zone 0 extends 5 feet from buildings, structures, decks, etc. While it was added to PRC 4291 in 2023, the new rules have yet to be implemented. It is expected to be law soon, due to Governor’s mandate following the LA res. https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/EO-_Urban-Conflagration-N-18-25-Final.pdfZone 0 iskey for wildre defense andpreventing res from spreading to your home. Here are the current guidelines:1. Use hardscapelike gravel, pavers, or concrete. No combustible bark or mulch.2. Remove all dead and dying plants, weeds, and debris (leaves, needles, etc.) from your roof, gutter, deck, porch, stairways, and under any areas of your home.3. Remove all branches within 10 feet of any chimneyor stovepipe outlet.4. Limit combustible items(like outdoor furniture and planters) on top of decks.5. Relocate rewoodto Zone 2 if possible.6. Replace combustible fencing, gates, and arborsattached to the home with noncombustible alternatives.7. Consider relocating garbage and recycling containersoutside this zone.8. Consider relocating boats, RVs, vehicles, and other combustible items outside this zone. Please remember to test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors once a month and replace any faulty alarms or low batteries immediately.Lastly, re safety inspections will be ramping up this month as we prepare for the re season ahead. Remember a re safe community begins with you! If you would like an inspection of your property, or you are looking to educate yourself about steps you can take to improve your defensible space, our re safety team would love to help. MAY PML NEWS 31
32 MAY PML NEWS
MAY PML NEWS 33Last year I wrote about exotic, invasive species at the lake in a broad sense. An “exotic” species is a plant or animal found outside of its natural range, so not native to the area. An “invasive” species takes that to the next level—it propagates uncontrollably, displaces a native species and threatens human health, the environment, or the economy. Now we have two such species to focus our attention.ENTER THE GOLDEN MUSSELZebra and quagga mussels are common infestations in western US lakes. Their protective shells are primarily made of calcium. e calcium concentration of PML water is typically below the general threshold needed for veligers (free-swimming larvae stage) and adult mussels to survive long-term. HOWEVER, the golden mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) found in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in October 2024 may be able to survive in PML conditions. e relatively small golden mussels (about 1 inch long) attach tightly to hard surfaces and lter out their food from the water. So, boat hulls/rudders, propellors/turbines, piers, and intake pipes are prized sites. ey also can survive a wide range of temperature and salinity, so moving from a brackish coastal port like in the Delta to mountain freshwater like Pine Mountain Lake is viable. All mussels present similar problems. For people, they can cover and damage watercraft and docks. eir shells can be sharp, cutting skin and inatables rubbing against them. Infrastructure such as drinking water intake lters and the dam outlet gates can get covered and clogged. For the aquatic ecosystem, mussels ltering the water for their food is like taking candy (algae) from a baby (the aquatic insects that sh eat). THANKS FOR THE LIFTe golden mussel is originally from China and Southeast Asia, but invaded parts of South America in the early 1990s (and water hyacinth, native to South America, is now found all over the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, so they’re even). For a plant or animal to invade Pine Mountain Lake, it must rst hitch a ride. e golden mussel colonies in the Delta most likely arrived in container ship ballasts. Ships take in water when they leave one port for stability in the high seas, and then they dump that water in the other port when they arrive. Seeds and tiny larvae get swept into (and out of) those contained spaces. From the Delta and elsewhere to Pine Mountain Lake, hardy plants and animals can attach to boat hulls, shing gear, waders, crusty mud in dog fur, and more. Due to their harmful impact, California issued an emergency order in January 2025 making it illegal to transport golden mussels.OH YEA, CANADA GEESELet’s not forget about our current favorite invaders, Canada geese. ey migrate south to over-winter here following their natural pattern, but then…honey, can’t we stay just a little longer? PMLA provides a safe and bountiful habitat around the lake and golf course, and largely excludes their natural predators (coyote, fox, raccoon, and more). Some people feed them even though it is illegal to feed wild animals, many human foods make geese sick, and signs in key areas warn against doing so. e obvious problem with geese is that sta spend many hours cleaning up their feces and feathers at the beaches and golf course. e worse potential problem is transmitting toxic bacteria through their feces. is risk ADMINISTRATIONMUSCLING GOLDEN MUSSELSIN THE GOLDEN STATESTEPHEN MCCORD, PhD. PMLA LAKE MANAGER.Colony of golden mussel. Photo courtesy of US Geological Survey.A ock of geese enjoying (and contaminating) the Marina lawn in spring 2023.(See Lake on next page)
34 MAY PML NEWSis why sta monitor the swimming areas for bacteria and has closed the swim areas in the past. is year we’ll monitor the swim areas and geese feces, and alert health ocials if symptoms are found.STOP THE SPREAD!It is soooo much cheaper to prevent the introduction of invasive species than to eradicate them afterwards. Association sta require all watercraft (boats, paddleboards, kayaks, and all) to be registered and thoroughly inspected before entering the lake. ose passing inspection (clean, drained, and dry) upon exiting get a green seal; others get a red seal and are quarantined for at least 15 days. e new inspection process is linked to Let’s be honest: geese look adorable. With their uy feathers, wobbly walk, and that smug little honk that says, “I run this beach now,” it’s easy to be fooled. You may even feel tempted to toss them a snack—just one chip, a little bread crust, or maybe the rest of your sandwich because you’re trying to be healthy and they look like they really need it (spoiler alert: they don’t).But feeding wildlife—especially geese—is a big no-no at Pine Mountain Lake, and we’re not just saying that because we’re jealous of how condently they strut around the Marina like they own the place (though, let’s be honest, they kind of think they do). Here’s the deal: feeding wildlife messes everything up. When you feed geese and other wild animals, you’re not doing them a ADMINISTRATIONDO NOT FEED THE GEESEMELODY WISDOM – RECREATION AND SEASONAL OPERATIONS MANAGER, CCAMa national database, which facilitates tracking the boats that can transport invasives. Here are some tips on how you can help protect the Pine Mountain Lake community and other waterways from invasive species. It takes collaboration to stop aquatic hitchhikers!• Clean, drain, and completely dry your boat, motor and trailer before and after use to remove all plant fragments and seeds.• Clean and dry all boots, waders and any other gear after use in water. • Do not release bait, aquarium fish, shellsh or plants into any waterway. Ever. Anywhere. Please.• Do not feed any wildlife, especially the geese.• Report sightings of geese nests with eggs. Sta can oil the eggs so they won’t hatch.Visit the PMLA web site for more information about invasive species (pinemountainlake.com/golden-mussel/) and Canada geese management (pinemountainlake.com/pml-canada-geese-management/). Attend the Friends of the Lake meeting at Lake Lodge on May 18 to hear more.[Stephen McCord is the Association’s Lake Manager. Comments and questions can be sent via email to sam@mccenv.com.](Lake from previous page)favor—you’re messing with nature’s perfectly balanced menu. Wildlife that relies on human food become lazy, aggressive, and weirdly entitled. Before you know it, you’ve got a ock of freeloaders harassing families for french fries. You might say to yourself, “But ey Look So Hungry”! ey’re not. Trust us. Geese are professional grazers. ey eat grass. ey eat weeds. ey’re nature’s lawnmowers. e moment you feed them people food, you’re basically turning them into loud, honking couch potatoes with a carb addiction.SIGNS ARE NOT SUGGESTIONSose “Please Do Not Feed the Wildlife” signs around PML aren’t there for decoration. They’re not passive-aggressive reminders. ey’re posted for very real, very important reasons. Feeding wildlife contributes to overpopulation, poor animal health, property damage; and yes, aggressive behavior. No one wants to wrestle a goose for their beach towel.Love them from afar. Take pictures. Admire their natural behavior. Marvel at their synchronized swimming skills. But please—keep your snacks to yourself. ey don’t need chips, crackers, or that leftover hot dog (though points for creativity). We all love Pine Mountain Lake—and the wildlife that lives here— so let’s do the right thing: don’t feed the geese. Because a healthy goose is a happy goose… and a goose that’s not chasing your toddler down the beach for a Cheez-It.For more information contact Melody Wisdom at 1 (209) 962-8604 or pmlfun@pinemountainlake.com

WILDFIRE COMMUNITYPREPAREDNESS DAY MAY 3, 2025WHAT IS WILDFIRE COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS DAY?Wildre Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildre risks. It is held in the United States and Canada on the rst Saturday in May. Given that in-person gatherings are limited or on-hold in many places, this year’s Prep Day is focused on what residents can do on and around their homes to help protect against the threat of wildres. The idea for the day came from a survey asking middle school students in Texas and Colorado about how they wanted to learn about wildre. They wanted to be a part of something that was making a dierence by improving wildre safety where they lived. When the program was piloted in 2013 in Colorado, both students and adults were eager to be a part of a day to raise awareness about wildre safety involving hands-on risk reduction activities. Wildre Community Preparedness Day is now celebrated across the nation. WHAT YOU DO MATTERS!You can help promote wildre protection by participating in risk reduction projects on or before the rst Saturday in May. Studies show that measures taken at the home and in the area within 100 feet of it, known as the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ), have a signicant impact on minimizing damage and loss. Something as simple as clearing the immediate 5-foot zone around the home can assist in making a huge dierence in avoiding a catastrophe. WHO SUPPORTS THIS EFFORT?The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®), a nonprot organization dedicated to helping save lives and reduce loss from re and electrical hazards, manages Prep Day. The annual campaign is sponsored by State Farm. Use our free sample proclamation to announce and celebrate your work to reduce wildfire risks. Encourage people to post on social media before and after photos to document their work and post on social media with the hashtag #WildfirePrepDay to share your success.Use free tools and resources, all found on the Wildre Prep Day Campaign page: nfpa.org/wildreprepday Visit nfpa.org/wildreprepday for information about getting involved.CELEBRATE YOUR WORK ON WILDFIRE COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS DAY:Sponsored by

Beginning on May 21, we’ll be open until 4 at both Stores with donations accepted until 3. We alter our hours to accommodate the summer season by staying open an hour longer. We’ll resume our 3:00 close just after Labor Day. This gives our summer travelers and vacationers a little longer to visit us.We’ve now cleared our winter inventory and have started filling the racks with summer clothing, shoes, hats, etc. We had almost a month of BAG SALES that helped us empty the winter racks with bargains for everyone. The racks will be stocked daily with new merch, so come in often. Look for special sale items the week before Mother’s Day on May 11th. We’ll have wonderful jewelry, clothing, collectibles and other fun stuff for that special lady in your life.April always has National Volunteer Appreciation Week and this year we gifted our wonderful volunteers with an umbrella with the Helping Hands logo emblazoned on it. We appreciate them beyond words, so this gift is a token of our appreciation for their dedication to the organization. Please to call 209-962-7014 prior to donating to the Furniture Barn. We have limited space and may not always be able to accept your items. A call will prevent loading it up and us not being able to accept it. The Furniture Barn is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11-3, with donations from 11-2 on those days. After May 21, the close time will be extended by one hour. The Thrift Store days are Wednesdays thru Saturday with the same hours as above. In accordance with our commitment to support our Community, we have now pledged a yearly sponsorship to Tuolumne Trails Camp. I’m a pretty (if I say so myself) little border collie with white tips on my paws and the end of my tail. In my six years I’ve had two litters and had been somewhat neglected by previous owners. Now my new mom and dad treat me so well and I know they love me. I don’t really have a favorite toy, but my favorite part of the day is when I get to go the Dog Park—not once, but twice a day—every morning and afternoon. I have lots of energy and LOVE to run. I literally run circles (clockwise only!) around the park and have created my own pathway around the park. My mom and dad like it because after the dog park, I come home and take a nap. Please register or renew your dog park registration and get the gate code for 2024. Please stop by the GCSD administration oce on Ferretti Road to register (or go to the Merchant Transact system on the GCSD website: www.gcsd.org). Bring current Rabies and Bordetella vaccination certicates, pay a $25 annual fee for up to two dogs ($10 for each additional dog), and get the gate code. Sociologist Ray Oldenburg describes the third space as vital to personal and community well-being, a place beyond work and home where life happens. Why does it matter? Studies show that people who regularly engage in a third space experience reduced stress, improved mental health, and stronger social ties. For older adults, these spaces can combat isolation, a risk factor for depression and cognitive decline. A third space is more than a meeting spot—it’s a lifeline to community and purpose.at’s where e Little House comes in. As Groveland’s answer to the third space, it’s a welcoming hub of activities and connections. Whether it’s a crafting class, tness session, or a simple coee chat with friends, e Little House provides a chance to engage, grow, and thrive. It’s a place to feel seen and supported while forming meaningful connections.Life is richer when we make space for community. Stop by The Little House on Merrell Road and discover your third space. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” — Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)I know that the community of God is not perfect, and at Gateway Community Church, we don’t always get everything right. We make mistakes, and sometimes we misinterpret our own actions as the work of God. Yet, despite our imperfections, I am blessed to witness the beauty of transformation when someone comes to Jesus.I see these moments in everyday life—at the local market while grabbing lunch, on Pine Mountain Lake with friends enjoying God’s creation, and on Friday mornings when a grateful smile accompanies a load of food given to a family in need. I see it in the generosity of South Side Community Service as they raise funds to provide much-needed transportation at no cost, and in the joyful interactions at Tenaya Elementary/Middle School and Tioga High School as I serve alongside our students. They were also encouraged to choose books to take home. Six students attended and took home about a dozen books. They were accompanied by Tioga staff member AlexaMacGregor. e students were excited to receive their books, and everyone had a wonderful time! Coming soon: FOGL has expanded its end-of-year giveaway at Tenaya Elementary. ALL students grades TK-8 will be oered to pick a book for summer reading! is event happens in late May.In addition to the book giveaways, FOGL oers many activities and opportunities for students to read and learn to love books. Volunteers read to preschoolers at the library every Friday morning and each year they read Dr. Suess books to the elementary classes for “Read Across America.” FOGL donates money to Tenaya Elementary School to purchase books for classroom libraries, as well as contributing funding for Stu the Bus, which helps purchase supplies for the schools. The importance of reading cannot be stressed enough, and it starts with young minds. To quote Dr. Suess ~ “e more that you read, the more things you will know. e more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” We see bright futures for our Groveland area youth, and FOGL volunteers are proud to be a part of their reading and learning journeys. If you are interested in becoming a member of FOGL or volunteering at the Book Nook, contact Michele Roberts at (209)962-4327 or mroberts@crossborder.com. After she passed, her mother Jeanne Yaeger (now 96) from Mountain View heard about CTT and thought how much Donna would have enjoyed coming to camp. She is thrilled that CTT will use it to help adults with disabilities. Some of our campers find transportation from their group homes to camp somewhat dicult. We will oer up transport to those who otherwise might miss camp. We will also use it to transport those with mobility challenges around camp to the various activities. It will support at least 2 wheelchairs and four other passengers, plus a driver and an attendant.A TIME OF TRANSITIONAfter seven years working at CTT in CTT is very pleased to announce that Kaylee Reynolds has joined CTT as its new Program Director. MAY PML NEWS 67OUR COMMUNITYPINE CONE SINGERS:CELEBRATE MUSICBOB SWANBy the time you read this, I hope you have seen our posters, and possibly been buttonholed by a Pine Cone Singer, so you know that our Spring Concert is almost at hand. And we are back to our traditional schedule: the weekend AFTER Mothers’ Day.We know this is a busy weekend for a lot of folks, but we hope you’ll be able to join us for a bit of musical refreshment amidst all your other activities. We will be performing our usual variety of styles: jazz, pop, movie music, a couple of beautiful slower pieces. We won’t be doing any “classical” stuff this time, but we will have some solos from our talented singers. We’re having fun learning the material, and we invite you to “Come Celebrate Music”. The concerts will be held at the Gateway Community Church on Ferretti Road at 7PM on Friday, May 16, and 2PM on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18. Tickets are usable for any one of the shows, and are available at Premier Valley Bank, B Beautiful Salon, and from any Pine Cone Singer. Suggested donation is $15, with children 12 and under free.If you have questions, please contact Bob Swan at 408-398-4731.

MAY PML NEWS 69We are cheese lovers and this is one of our favorite appetizers to serve at parties; we highly recommend that you try it for Cinco De Mayo! We like the Oaxaca Cheese and usually nd it at Grocery Outlet in Sonora or Oakdale. For all of the cheeses, it is better if you use block cheese rather than pre grated cheese, which has starch added to keep it from clumping. e starch is not good for the texture of the queso, so avoid pre grated cheese!INGREDIENTS1/2 lb. Chorizo Sausage (can substitute Jimmy Dean hot breakfast sausage)1 whole medium Onion, nely diced2 whole small Poblano or Bell Peppers, seeded and nely diced1 lb combo of Oaxaca, Monterey Jack, and/or Mozzarella Cheese), gratedSprinkle of Chili Powder3 whole Roma Tomatoes, diced1/4 cup Cilantro, choppedTortilla Chips for servingDIRECTIONSPreheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large skillet over med high heat, cook and crumble the sausage until brown. Remove from skillet and drain on a paper towel. Pour o any excess fat. Add onions and bell peppers to the skillet and cook until the veggies are soft and golden brown, about 7-8 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. To build the skillet, place 1/3 of the cheese in a separate medium-sized ovenproof skillet (we use a 8 or 10 inch cast iron skillet). Add half the sausage. Add another third of the cheese, then as much of the veggie mixture as you’d like (you may have a little left over.) Add almost all of the remaining cheese, the rest of the sausage, then whatever cheese you have left. Sprinkle the top very lightly with chili powder.NOTE: Depending on the size of your skillet or baking dish, you may have some ingredients left over. Just build so that the ingredients roughly reach the top of the skillet; they’ll shrink quite a bit once the cheese melts!Place into the oven and start watching it about 4 to 5 minutes in. You want to bake it until the cheese is totally melted, hot, and slightly bubbling...but before the cheese starts to rm up/harden.Remove from the oven, top with the diced tomatoes, sprinkle on the cilantro, and serve immediately with tortilla chips!NOTE: Be sure to have everything ready so you can serve the queso fundido pretty much right out of the oven. It’s best when piping hot! Wrap a cloth around the skillet handle so guests won’t burn themselves.OUR COMMUNITYQUESO FUNDIDORECIPE SUBMITTED BY TOM KNOTH AND PAULA MARTELL
