QTalent Solutions is looking to hire a Plant Manager for our client, an advanced materials industrial manufacturer, and a supplier to critical high-growth markets such as lithium-ion batteries, electric vehicles, energy storage systems and several other emerging applications in an increasingly electrified world. Our client has over 140 years of collective experience in synthetic graphite manufacturing and US leadership in lithium-ion graphite anode battery materials innovation. Reports To: Vice President of Operations Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field required. MBA in addition to Engineering qualification will be advantageous. • 15 years progressive manufacturing industry experience. Automotive (or related) or high temperature materials industries (preference to synthetic graphite Industry) experience will be advantageous. • At least 8 years of leadership experience. • Proven Plant Manager experience required. • Lean Sigma experience preferred. Core Responsibilities: • Develop, motivate and lead a high-performance Plant Leadership Team to ensure successful implementation of the Operations Strategy. • Promote a culture of excellence in an environment that fosters initiative, guided by the company’s Vision, Mission and Principles. • Develop knowledge of plant processes, products, personnel and capabilities to facilitate clear understanding, communication and coordination between Operations, Sales, Center of Excellence, Engineering, EHS, Supply Chain, and HR. • Work with the Plant Leadership Team and Finance to set operating budgets and financial targets. Conduct monthly financial analyses of variances and spend to implement effective cost controls. • Work with the Plant Leadership Team to develop and communicate meaningful metrics and KPI’s to measure plant performance and promote Continuous Improvement (CI) activities. • Drive customer satisfaction in every aspect of Plant Operations in support of delivering product of quality, on time and in full (QOTIF). • Operate the facility to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and minimize working capital while meeting and / or exceeding all financial, safety, environmental, and quality goals. • Demonstrate understanding of OSHA regulations and safety policies and initiate actions to ensure 100% compliance. Work with the EHS Manager to eliminate
exposures and mitigate workplace accidents and injuries. Cultivate a safety culture focused on Behavioral Based Safety to achieve world class performance. • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the site’s EPD Title V air permit, NPDES effluent permit, Storm water and SPCC plan, and hazardous waste disposal procedures. Work with the EHS Manager to ensure compliance and report any non-compliance incidents. • Place Safety above all else. Safety compliance comes before priority 1. • Work with the EHS Manager to ensure implementation of and compliance with all elements of the Sustainability Management System. • Drive Operational Excellence (OPEX) through Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies and practices. Promote the development of skills and integration of Lean tools including Lean Daily Management (LDM), 5S, Kaizen events, Root Cause Analysis, and 6-Sigma projects. • Facilitate the introduction of new or modified products and process improvements in conjunction with the Center of Excellence (ACE) and the Plant Process Engineering team. • Implement and maintain world class maintenance practices, systems and metrics. • Provide direction and support for the Maintenance Manager to develop an effective and efficient Maintenance Department. Improve equipment reliability / system availability through effective preventative and predictive maintenance processes, analysis of failure modes, and implementation of engineering solutions to prevent or mitigate recurrences. • Provide direction and support for the Quality team to maintain ISO 9001 and IATF16949 certification based on the site Quality Management System (QMS). Ensure the Quality Control Lab has the capability and staffing required to support the product mix and volumes identified in the annual operating plan. • Work with the Quality team to implement, maintain and continuously improve a quality data and metrics system, utilizing KPI and KPV metrics and Statistical Process Control ensuring that proactive action is taken to improve quality and prevent quality incidents. • Work with the Human Resources Manager to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Equal Employment Opportunity Act (EEOA) and the company’s Graphite for Good policies. • Work with the Plant team, ACE team and Engineering to identify prospective capital projects related to major maintenance, capacity, capability, quality, productivity, reliability, etc. Provide plant resources to support development and implementation of capital projects aligned with the 5 Year and Annual Capital Plans. • Represent the company in the community and encourage community involvement. • Support and facilitate various employee committees (e.g., Plant Safety Committee, Employee Activities Committee) to improve employee engagement and ownership. • Perform any other tasks delegated by the Vice President Operations.
