Pathology Free PressPathology Free PressPathology Free PressDr. DeChristopher Invited Symposium SpeakerRegion VIII Trauma Symposium 2023"Trauma – Basics and Beyond“The 18th Annual Trauma Symposium, “Trauma – Basics & Beyond,”, held at the Embassy Suites on October 19, 2023 in Naperville, IL was hosted by the 11 Trauma Centers in Illinois’ EMS Region VIII. The purpose of this symposium is to deliver education and enhance the knowledge base of emergency department RNs, ICU RNs, MDs, and EMT / paramedics through presentations focused on trauma patient care. The trauma symposium website is Trauma Symposium (region8traumaconf.org).In a very well attended and received venue, Dr. DeChristopher presented "Transfusion in Trauma, the Role of Massive Transfusion and What to Expect Next".Other Loyola Faculty presenting included Joshua Carson, MD, Associate Professor and Medical Director of the Burn Unit, presented "From the Ashes: Burn Care from Rescue to Recovery"; and Hieu Ton-That, MD, Associate Professor, Medical Director of Surgical ICU and Chair, Blood Usage Committee, who presented "When Two World's Collide" concerning the traumatic injuries, prolonged surgical care and recovery of a Loyola patient.Dr. DeChristopher is pictured with Melissa Herlihy, RN, MSN, TNS, Loyola Trauma Program Manager and an organizer of the Region VIII Trauma Symposium, and important attendee, our own Gale Suwe, MLS (ASCP) SBB, Manger, Blood Bank and Apheresis.
