I like pathology because I'm the kind of person who enjoys giving answers to complex questions. Pathologists not only aim to diagnose medical conditions but also target to provide answers to the question, 'What can be done?' This dual purpose can offer hope to patients in need. Name: Mahrukh Mumtaz, MDSchool: King Edward Medical University, Pakistan, 2018Committed to Pathology: YesWhy Pathology? My experience at a pathology laboratory in Pakistan, in surgical pathology, confirmed my passion for the field. Additionally, my rotations in the United States provided me with valuable exposure to hematopathology, transfusion medicine, molecular pathology, clinical pathology, autopsy, laboratory management, and surgical pathology, further solidifying my commitment to pathology. My personality is well-suited to pathology, as the attention to detail and critical thinking it demands align seamlessly with my strengths.

My pursuit of a career in pathology stems from my desire to maintain a broad and comprehensive understanding of medical knowledge throughout my professional journey. Pathologists are entrusted with the responsibility of providing the final diagnosis, which directly influences the treatment plan for each patient. This provides the opportunity to substantially impact a significant number of people. Additionally, it allows me to fulfill my desire to continuously engage in critical thinking and problem-solving, with the ultimate goal of ensuring an accurate diagnosis for every patient I encounter.
