Congratulations to the MacNeal laboratory team on a successful College of American Pathology inspection. The inspecting team, under the leadership of Dr. Sara Fleming, was from the Swedish-American Hospital and comprised of seven inspectors, including two from CAP. This was the first CAP inspection under new lab leadership. The overall results showed a very well prepared and functioning laboratory. After a thorough and very detailed inspection, only a handful of areas for improvement were identified. A number of the laboratory sections were deficiency free, and the few deficiencies that were cited involved minor changes in policies and procedures that may have already been addressed by the laboratory team.In general, during the CAP accreditation process - which is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all testing - inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs and records, and overall management.Congratulations to the MacNeal laboratory team for this significant accomplishment which further demonstrates our commitment to high-quality patient care at MacNeal Hospital and Loyola Medicine.Eva M.
