In April, we appointed Liz Cummins to lead the new business unit as its Managing Director. Liz has a history of success delivering security and front of house services in London and over ten years of senior leadership experience in the facilities services industry. The new business unit, which draws on the strength and resources of our group, has the speed, flexibility and expertise needed to deliver outstanding service to its clients in the city. It also benefits from our increased investment in technology and innovation. In 2021, we appointed a new Director of Technology Solutions to help us leverage cutting-edge security technologies to deliver performance improvements and added value to clients. Commenting on her appointment, Liz said, “I’m delighted to join Bidvest Noonan and to lead our new London Security Solutions business unit. PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE8Our Executive Team in Ireland have crossed the country on foot in support of the people of Ukraine.Stepping up for the people of UkraineOur Executive Team in Ireland have walked from Galway to Dublin to raise awareness and funds to support the eorts of the Irish Red Cross in aid of the Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine. Over 4.6 million people have already fled their homes to escape the conflict in Ukraine. They have been forced to leave loved ones and almost everything they own. Many others have remained in Ukraine and live without sucient access to water, electricity, and heat. Red Cross teams are on the ground in Ukraine. They are working to repair vital infrastructure, support health facilities, and help families with life-saving food and hygiene items. The funds raised by our executive team and colleagues will help the Red Cross to provide people with food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes and shelter. Cormac Sheils, Mary Kealy, Kathy McDermott, Philip Murphy, Scott Brannigan, Anthony Harman, Brendan Keogh, and Peter Smyth have successfully completed the challenging walk. The team set out from Galway on Wednesday, May 11th, trekked over 220km, taking millions of steps and meeting many of our teams along the way , and arrived back in our Swords Oce on May 13th. Bidvest team members from across the country have supported the executive team during the period, with many joining them for stretches near their worksites and towns.

PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE10Earlier this year our group executive team took time out of their busy diaries to update colleagues about the progress we are making and our plans for the future of our business with hundreds of our colleagues from across the UK and Ireland. The live two-hour session was very interactive with the team answering a wide range of questions provided by our virtual audience. However the most important objective of the business was to share our new vision.Sharing our new visionOur vision is to be so important to our customers, so valuable to their business, and provide experiences so good, we are always their partner of choice. We are undertaking a range of initiatives to build awareness of this new vision in our organisation. We are working to help our people understand the vision and how their actions can help us to realise it.

PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE12As Technology and Innovation Director at Bidvest Noonan, Peter Smyth spends much of his time studying innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies. Peter’s research helps us achieve better outcomes for our customers, people, business, and environment. We asked Peter to identify four areas where innovation and technological advances are beginning to impact our industry. Cobotics Cobotics is still an emerging field; however, at Bidvest Noonan, we have begun to introduce cobots to a number of sites where they can add value. These machines work alongside our people, handling repetitive and monotonous tasks such as large area cleaning. Cobots are not a substitute for cleaning teams, but they can augment them, increasing their resilience and capacity. Cobots can oer several benefits. The cobots that we invested in use up to 80% less water than traditional cleaning methods. They use smart mapping systems to take the most energy ecient cleaning path and can work in the dark, further reducing energy consumption. The data captured by our cobots support evidence-based cleaning and the development of valuable insights for planning. Importantly, by handling some of the most monotonous work, cobots improve job satisfaction for our team members and enable them to handle higher-order tasks.Innovation watchTechnology and Innovation Director, Peter Smyth shares his insights

15BIDVEST NOONANDynamic Cleaning Dynamic cleaning improves the productivity and sustainability of cleaning operations. The approach uses sensor technologies to identify which spaces have been occupied and require cleaning and which do not. Cleaning teams become more productive as there is no time wasted on unnecessary cleaning in unused areas. Cleaning operations become more sustainable as teams use less water, energy and materials. Dynamic cleaning leverages real-time and historical building usage data to improve planning, enabling managers to determine the exact resourcing requirements for every period and every area of the site. Smart Buildings Smart buildings use a combination of technologies to improve the eciency, utilisation and environmental performance of buildings and assets while creating a safe and comfortable environment for occupants. Bidvest Noonan uses a range of these technologies at some of its own buildings. For example, we use technologies to monitor and manage building occupancy, powering down unoccupied rooms, spaces, or even entire floors to save energy. We only make these spaces available again when needed. Using our digital booking system, our building users always have access to the resources they need, such as desks, meeting rooms, smart lockers and parking spaces. The insights provided by our smart building technologies enable us to make significant cost and energy savings in areas such as lighting, heating and air-conditioning systems while providing optimum conditions for building users. In addition, the data we gather helps to improve our workplace planning. Waste Management Businesses have used waste compactors and balers to manage waste for many years; however, these technologies have continued to advance, and their use has been boosted by developments in recycling and regulation. Modern compactors and balers such as those provided by our specialist waste handling business Ancove, are more powerful, economical and compact. As a result, they eciently reduce waste volumes by more than 90%; less space is required to store waste, and fewer waste collections are needed. Additionally, waste materials have become a source of revenue for our customers. They receive payment for waste materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic.

PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE16In 2021, we appointed John King as our ESG Director and launched Sunrise, our ESG program. Sunrise operates under four workstreams: Community, Workplace, Environment and Marketplace. Within Sunrise’s Environmental workstream, we work hard with our colleagues and supply chain partners to reduce our impact on the planet, from removing single-use plastics and minimising the waste we generate to embracing technological change. In December, we published our plan to become a Net Zero business. To achieve our goal, we are undertaking a wide range of projects and initiatives to reduce our emissions and increase the sustainability of our business. We are transitioning to an electric fleet, investing in energy and water-saving technologies, increasing our use of green chemicals and much more. In April, we published our Environmental Report. Our report outlines the journey we are on and the steps we are taking to deliver a greener and more sustainable world. It is split into a number of sections:Our Environmental Report Learn how we are working to deliver a greener, more sustainable world.Working together for a better tomorrowCleaner Energy and Lower EmissionsSaving Water and Preventing PollutionLess Waste andMore RecyclingPromotingBiodiversity

PERSPECTIVE MAGAZINE18Women in SecurityMeeting some of the outstanding women across our security businessalso definitely important to have a high level of customer service skills. Sharon Kane, Operations Manager, shared how Bidvest Noonan helped her career in the security industry: “Bidvest Noonan encouraged me to get involved with projects and listened to my ideas. Feeling valued as an employee and working with my other colleagues enhanced my experience in the security industry and ensured I had opportunities to grow and excel. The training, mentoring, guidance, and support I have received are invaluable in my progression within the business and have been instrumental in my current success.” To help encourage more women to participate in the security industry, we put a spotlight on some of the amazing women in our security teams. In our Women in Security series, we shared some of their stories and perspectives. Renata Baszynski, our Security Supervisor at one of the busiest shopping centres in Dublin, told us what makes a good security professional: “Experience helps but psychological skills are essential, like the ability to read people’s body language, especially in the retail security industry. I believe it is Cheryl Kelly, Security Supervisor with 14 years of experience in the Bidvest Noonan security team, shared how she began her career in the security industry. “ I found my love for security when I went to my first security training. I was shown how to put out fires, how to be a store detective, and how to protect people. There was a lot of thinking involved and so much to learn. A day in security can be fun, frustrating, interesting, and most of all a constant learning curve. I never have any two days the same. I love the fact that I am involved in training and improvement of the running of the store.”Renata Baszynski, Security Supervisor

29BIDVEST NOONANWe asked Tessa Rossi, GMP Microbiologist at Bidvest Noonan, to discuss the updates on the contamination control strategy in light of the new Annex 1 revision, the EU guidance document for the manufacture of sterile medicinal products.Cleaning and disinfection achieve two distinctly dierent objectives. Each plays a crucial role in ensuring that a facility and its equipment is ready to be used for pharmaceutical manufacturing. With the new Annex 1 revision, it has become apparent that there is a paradigm shift forcing cleaning and disinfection to be considered as two clearly separate, distinct tasks and that both these aspects have to be incorporated into the contamination control strategy. Cleaning refers to removal all dirt, soil and residues (non-viable particulates) from a surface. Detergents are used to clean surfaces. Disinfection specifically refers to killing any microorganisms (viable particulates) that are present on the surface. Disinfectants are used to accomplish this, but do not necessarily employ cleaning as part of its mode of action. Aside from the regulatory requirement to separate these two tasks and to include both as part of an eective sanitisation regime, it is also imperative to ensure eective contamination control. Non-viable particulates, such as soil, can often harbor microorganism within it. In addition to this risk, any dirt, debris, dust and other non-viable particulates all pose a risk to the product itself, with both viable and non-viable contaminants required to be kept within defined cleanroom parameters. Eective cleaning also primes surfaces and equipment for disinfection, as disinfectants become less eective if surface contaminants are present. Disinfection, in turn, if eective, eliminates viable (microbial) contaminants that could pose a risk to product safety. An eective sanitation procedure in pharmaceutical facilities should include the following steps, combining both cleaning and disinfection as part of the process:1. Removal of larger debris and particulates2. Surface rinse3. Cleaning with detergent4. Post cleaning rinse5. Disinfection6. Post disinfection rinse (if applicable)7. Validation The need to do both in pharmaceutical facilitiesCleaning & DisinfectionTessa Rossi, GMP Microbiologist at Bidvest Noonan
