HOW TO USEHow, Where, and When to Use This BookThis book is meant to be used as a personal discipleship program. It can also be used as a group study (see below). Each lesson contains the following: • An introduction to the chapter.• A video lesson, typically 30–60 minutes long. There is a QR code that you can use with your phone to view the video or you can type in the link provided. • An outline of the video with key Scriptures written out for you, usually using the New King James Version of the Bible. • Suggestions for further reading and study.• Action Steps to apply what you have just learned.• Suggestions for how to share this material with others. GETTING STARTED To prepare well for this study, we encourage you to do the following: • Pray that your heart will be open to learning new things. • Do the work. Each lesson has further reading and study as well as action steps. Be prepared to dig in and do the work. • Remember the goal! You want to grow as a Christian. Remember the growing pains you had as a kid? You will have growing pains here too. Remember that you want to mature in Christ. “Go and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). USING AS A GROUPIf you plan to use this study as a group, we make the following suggestions to the group leader/facilitator.Promoting Your GroupWhether this is your rst time hosting a small group or your ftieth, the rst thing you want to do is reach out to others and let them know about it.• Make an announcement in your church and set up a page on social media, and invite anyone who is interested to attend. You can also put an insert in your church’s bulletin or print out small cards to distribute. Here’s an example for either: Ř We will be starting an exciting new study by David Johnston called Personal Digital Discipleship. God has an amazing discipleship program for each and every one of us. It is vital that we mature in Christ, and that is the core idea of this study. HOWTOUSE

HOW TO USE PAGE viiiHOW TO USEIf you’d like to join us, please contact _______________ at ________________. • You can also arrange to do sessions remotely by setting up online meetings on Zoom or an-other platform like it.• However, the most personal way to invite people is by direct invitation. Reach out to those God lays on your heart, and let them know about the study you plan to host. This method is more welcoming than all the others. How You Meet• If you are meeting in a classroom, take the time to prepare the room. In a small group setting, it makes sense to arrange the chairs in a circle to encourage participation, so if you are using a church classroom, get there early and make the room as user-friendly as possible. If you are meeting in a home, do the same. • If you are meeting remotely, make sure everyone has the link and knows how to connect. It’s a good idea to do a test-run to work out any technological glitches beforehand. Before Each Session• Pray over the group you are leading—even before you meet them. And once you have met, ask your group to pray for each other daily. • Be prepared. Don’t go into the material (or the sessions) cold. Be sure to watch the video and read the chapter to be discussed ahead of time. This will help you a great deal. It does a few things: It prepares you mentally for the topic at hand. It alerts you to any questions you may have about the material, so you can dig deeper beforehand; and in the same vein, this prepa-ration allows the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you creatively. He will give you ideas that will make your group time richer and more worthwhile. That is a process and takes time and deliberation. • Be sensitive to allow everyone to speak, and do not dominate the discussions. Encourage active listening by modeling that yourself, and helping others to share by asking open-ended questions during discussion times. • Be observant. If one person starts doing all the talking, speak to them privately, and ask them to take turns. If you notice someone that never speaks, encourage them to share. • Stay connected. As the leader, do your best to communicate well with your group. • Remember the goal! You want to grow together as a group while studying Personal Digital Discipleship together. Stay on target!

Damnable heresies are now dominant in multitudes of “Christian” churches. Perilous times are here! The Master Himself said, “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24). Those days are here now. Fake Christianity is everywhere to be found. How can you know for sure that you are a genuine Christian? Any gospel that denies the Lordship of Christ over the believer is a false gospel.

Page 14

RE•BORN PAGE 4RE•BORNEveryone has been taken in by a counterfeit at some point. There was that gold watch that wasn’t really gold or the twenty dollar bill that wasn’t real. It’s not usually a big deal to deal with counterfeit things, but let’s reframe that. What about counterfeit salvation? How can we be sure that we are truly a Christian?Christian: Genuine or ImitationConsider this pie chart. Each slice represents the dierent facets of a person’s existence: relationships, such as parents, spouse, children, and friends; jobs; nances; church activities; other hobbies and pursuits; and anything else that applies. We have a tendency to name one slice of that pie “Jesus” and put all the Jesus-related stu there. If we do that, we are compartmentalizing Jesus. We put Him in the church spot, but He doesn’t manage any other part. This is how people end up being believers, but not genuine Christ-followers. If we don’t let Jesus have the central spot in our hearts, we are still running the show. We say we believe in Him, but we run our own lives. We go to church and sing the songs and pray and say the right words, but our lives do not really reect true growth in Him. What needs to change? And how?How to Know When Christ Is LordIt’s simple. Jesus must be in a leadership position, the management position, in our lives if we are to be genuine. If Jesus is the master of our life, we don’t have the option to sin, to steal, to commit adultery, etc. When Jesus Christ is our Lord, we cease to have an opinion on any matter on which God has already spoken in His Word! If He is Lord and we are the servant, He rules. Our will is yielded to Him. That is true Christianity. Keep in mind that Satan desires us to fulll legitimate needs using unscriptural methods. But when Jesus Christ is in the management position, the Lord position, it is clear that we simply follow the methods and principles taught in Scripture. Page 15

RE•BORN PAGE 5How to Know You Are a Genuine Christianaspect of our lives. Christ should be Lord of every part of us—our money, our relation-ships, our jobs, our family, our free time, our online accounts, everything. How to Become a Genuine ChristianDon’t be afraid of conviction (when the Holy Spirit points out our failings). This is not to condemn you, but to move you in the right direction. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). God wants to “salvage” or “save” your life. He wants to clean up your heart and make it like new. There are two steps here. First we must have faith in the Living Christ, but we also must confess His Lordship. The confession must be genuine. Matthew 7:21 says, “Not ev-eryone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” He must be confessed as Lord. Christ must be in the “Lord” position. Each of our hearts has a throne. It can be ruled by ourselves or by Christ. When we take over the throne, we end up with all sorts of problems. It doesn’t matter if self is on the throne, or our friends, or Satan. These rulers all cause problems. The cure for those problems is to let Christ sit on the throne of our heart to rule unchallenged by anyone or anything. The Evidence of Christ in the Lord PositionThe key to becoming a genuine Christian is to let Christ managerially be active on the throne of our heart. Luke 6:46 says, “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” The evidence of Christ on the throne is to see what our actions are. Are we doing God’s will (Matthew 7:21)? Or do we deceive ourselves into thinking that we have Christ on the throne but continue to do what we want to do?The Evidence: Ending the Contest of WillsWe cannot continue to do what we want to do. We must choose to follow God’s will in all areas of our life. Genuine Christianity is making Jesus Lord and doing what he says. You don’t want to make a mistake here. God has big plans for you. There is no reason to be confused about whether or not you are a genuine Christian. The evidence of Christ’s rule of your life will answer the question for you.

Include all your relationships, job, nances as well as anything else that you do. Does Jesus manage each area? Christ can and should manage them all. Further, if this lesson has opened up questions for you about whether or not you are a true Christian, that’s okay. (It’s actually good!) Talk to your pastor or home group leader about this. If you don’t have either of those, contact us. Share With Others We are all a work in progress. Everyone should assess this important issue. When you are next in a small group or with a trusted friend, that’s a good time to discuss this. Also, be prepared to help those who realize that they aren’t following Jesus as they ought. In a spirit of gentleness as outlined in Galatians 6, come alongside them and pray for them to know Jesus in a real and life-changing way.

Our pulpits preach a “pray and be done” message. We have “easy believism.” In fact, repentance is even left out of the preaching of the gospel! While we do need to believe, the problem is that there are those who teach that we need only to believe. The Scripture says, “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” (James 2:19). Jesus said, “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3b). Let’s look at what true repentance actually is.

Page 18

RE•BORN PAGE 8RE•BORNPerilous times are here! Repentance is not even shared from the pulpit of today’s churches. But true repentance is required by God.God Requires RepentanceThe Bible teaches that repentance is key and absolutely necessary (see Luke 13:3 and Acts 17:30–31). This is not an option. God commands all men, everywhere, to repent. Most of us may not see the need to repent because we are not looking at things from God’s perspective. Let’s look at some verses to understand how God sees us.God Is Concerned about Our HeartsFirst Samuel 16:7 says, “For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the out-ward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” Our heart condition is the primary, most fundamental problem that we have as humans. In fact, God searches our hearts (Jere-miah 17:9–10). He nds it to be deceitful and desperately wicked. Our heart is selsh. And from the heart comes all sorts of wickedness.Jesus did not say, “If any man will come after Me, let him deny the devil, take up his cross, and follow Me.” Not at all! He said man must deny HIMSELF.The Heart Is Basically SelshRepentance is not merely breaking o a sin; it is the heart that is the problem. Even having good outward appearance—good deeds, manners, kindness, faithfulness, etc.—merely covers up the selshness of the heart. Without repen-tance, self continues to rule the heart. “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts” (Proverbs 21:2).WickednessCovetousnessFornicationsMurderStealingAdulteriesWickednessCovetousnessFornicationsMurderStealingAdulteriesSELFISH

Page 19

RE•BORN PAGE 9True RepentanceThe Heart Is Totally SelshNot only is the heart basically selsh, it is totally selsh! Who is ruling your heart? Most people are ruled by self. The big “I”. Repentance is not merely repenting of the selsh condition of the heart; it is repenting of what caused the selshness in the rst place. That is genuine repentance. We must remove the ego, the self, from the throne of our heart. The heart must be ruled by Christ (and Christ alone). Repentance is a change of rulership. We shift from letting “I” rule our heart to letting Christ rule our heart. This changes our heart completely. Love, genuine love, is produced automatically in our lives when Christ is rul-ing. See also 1 John 2:3–4 and Luke 6:46–49.Action StepsMake no mistake about these truths. Your eternal future depends upon genuine conversion to the Savior, a conversion that is evidenced by a life of love and obedience. If you have not fully repented of your selsh heart, please do so today. Let Christ rule in your heart.Share with OthersIf you have today given your heart over to the new proper and quali-ed ruler (Christ), share this with someone who can pray with you. A change in lordship of your heart is not without a battle. Your selshness will continue to seek to regain the throne. Having an accountability partner can be helpful as you seek to die to self daily and follow Christ.

RE•BORNAmazing GraceLESSON3SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reborn3KEY VERSE“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.” Titus 2:11KEY THOUGHTGod’s grace is what allows us to be cleansed from our sins and made to be like Christ.LESSON INTRODUCTIONWe know that we are saved by grace. The problem is that the concepts of grace that are oating around leave much to be desired. Understanding a biblical concept of grace is essential to healthy Christian living. To be “saved” means to be salvaged. We are salvaged by grace. Make no mistake about it—nobody gets into the kingdom of God but by grace and by grace alone. Grace is not a cover-up. Grace is the unmerited act of God in me and makes me like the Lord Jesus Christ.

Page 22

RE•BORN PAGE 12RE•BORNThe Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of your-selves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). If we are wrong about grace, we are wrong about the gospel. Grace is the washing of our heart. Grace does something that we cannot do ourselves. Grace is the power to do God’s will with joy, delivering us from sin and making us like Christ. This is saving grace.1. Amazing grace! How sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me!I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. 2. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appearThe hour I rst believed. 3. Through many dangers, toils, and snares,I have already come;’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,And grace will lead me home. 4. RE•BORNThe Danger of Misrepresented GraceLESSON4LESSON INTRODUCTIONFalse gospels come from false concepts. These have distorted the true gospel. If we are wrong about the gospel, we are wrong about everything. All is lost! If we are wrong about “grace,” we will be wrong about the gospel. The stakes are very high. They are eternal. Keep your Bible close by during this teaching. “Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be pre-served blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:21–23).SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reborn4KEY VERSE“As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your con-duct.”1 Peter 1:15KEY THOUGHTGod’s grace delivers us from sin (salvation) and makes us like Christ (sanctication).

Page 26

RE•BORN PAGE 16RE•BORNSalvation by GraceEphesians 2:8–9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” The basic prin-ciple here is that you are saved by grace. Remember, to be saved is to be salvaged. This salvaging is by grace alone. But Paul did not stop there. In the very next verse he says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God pre-pared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). We are saved by grace alone and not by works. However, we are saved for the purpose of good works. The Perversion of GraceJude says ungodly men turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ (see Jude 1:3–4). Ungodly teachers are turning a proper understanding of grace into a license to do evil. This is a perverted grace.Perverted Grace = Perverted GospelA perverted grace leads to a perverted gospel. Look at Galatians 1:6–9: “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a dier-ent gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to per-vert the gospel of Christ.… As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preach-es any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” This is a serious issue. A twisted view of grace leads to a twisted gospel.Misconception of GraceLet’s consider a person who is living in sin. We commonly hear that grace covers us between us and God. When God looks down, He doesn’t see our sin.… He sees Jesus’ blood, which covers our sin. This is an Old Testament teaching and is not the New Testa-ment idea of grace. God is not looking through “Jesus glasses” and does not see the sin that is actually there. But this is not what Scripture teaches. The Word teaches that we should repent from our sin, not cover up our sin.

Page 27

RE•BORN PAGE 17The Danger of Misrepresented GraceGrace: The Power to Do God’s WillThe grace of God in salvation is the unmerited activity of God in us delivering us from sin and making us like the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace does not cover; it cleanses us. It does not whitewash; it washes white. Grace gives us the power to do God’s will. Grace is the active, dynamic impact of God in us. God sees the righteousness of Christ when He looks at us, not because of a covering, but because we have been changed and rightness is actually there in us!Grace: The Activity of God in YouPaul says in Colossians 1:5b–6, “The word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.” God’s work in us brings forth fruit. The real grace of God is visible in us; it is God making us like Christ.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•BORNObedience: The Evidence of True ChristianityLESSON5LESSON INTRODUCTIONIf you were on trial for being a Christian, what evidence would there be against you? Scripture gives us a true litmus test of the validity of one’s claim to be a Chris-tian: obedience. While obedience is not a very popular subject, it is required of every Christian. Follow along as we look at obedience and as we cover the various aspects of living out life as a true Christian.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reborn5KEY VERSE“Oh, how I love Your law! RE•BORN PAGE 20RE•BORNThere are three categories of people: Christians, non-Christians, and hypocrites. The Christian hears the Word and does the Word. The hypocrite hears the Word but does not do it. The non-Christian has neither heard the Word nor follows the Word.Thankfully, it is possible to change categories!Jesus said that the Christian follows God’s Word and is known by his or her love. The hypocrite and the non-Christian live selshly.Living by CommandmentFor a Christian, living according to the commandments means that before deciding, speaking, or acting in any situation, they check to see if God has given any command that would apply. If so, the Christian obeys that command joyfully, immediately, and without question. A Christian lives this way all the time, every time. This is not a drudg-ery for a Christian. This is a joyful process. Christians Love the Laws of God’s WordThe psalmist declares, “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day” (Psalm 119:97). A Christian loves the counsel of the Word. “Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me” (Psalm 119:133). God’s Word gives us good and wise direction, even over our enemies. The Word gives us understanding, even more than our teachers.Christians Love the Warnings of God’s WordThe Christian listens to warnings in Scripture. “I thought about my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies. I made haste and did not delay to keep Your commandments” (Psalm 119:59–60). Christians Love the Comfort of God’s WordGod’s Word comforts us when we are struggling with aictions. “This is my comfort in my aiction, for Your word has given me life” (Psalm 119:50). Fear, bitterness, stress, and guilt can all be overcome by the comfort of God’s Word.

RE•BORNHave Iniquity and Narcissism Invaded the Gospel?LESSON6LESSON INTRODUCTIONThe whole idea behind propaganda is an invasion of one’s thinking. Has the gospel been invaded by iniquity and narcissism? There are all sorts of invasions, from an army of ants to an invasion of soldiers … even talk of alien invasions! Then there are virus invasions, invasions of privacy, home invasions, chemical invasions, economic invasions, and evil invasions by demons. All these invasions imply an assault. One of the worst types of invasions is when it impacts our thinking.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reborn6KEY VERSE“Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19bKEY THOUGHTThe pure gospel has the power of God.

RE•BORN PAGE 24RE•BORNNarcissism Is Insatiable“Iniquity” is the biblical word for narcissism. “Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed, who establishes a city by iniquity! Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the peoples labor to feed the re, and nations weary themselves in vain?” (Habakkuk 2:12–13). “Vanity” means worthless, of no value, of no prot. Narcissism will never get us happiness. It is never satised. Narcissism Is Unprincipled“How much less man, who is abominable and lthy, who drinks iniquity like water!” (Job 15:16). The narcissist makes decisions with a awed thinking, a contaminated way of processing. Iniquity has to do with the throne of your heart. Who is in charge of that throne? Those who are corrupt and set laws should be avoided. These gather them-selves against the righteous.Let’s look at Sodom in Ezekiel 16:49–50. They had pride, over-consumption, misuse of time, slothfulness in children, insensitivity to the poor, arrogance, and abominations. The source of all of this was their iniquity. Narcissism Is Self-Destructive and UnsustainableWhen a nation is controlled by narcissism, there is no outrage concerning evil. Law with-out enforcement and a penalty is merely advice. Is this our national and cultural condi-tion right now?Narcissism Is Our National ConditionThis is not about politics but it is about our worldview. There are two basic worldviews: one with God and one without God. Social and political issues are moral issues. There is right and wrong, good and evil. We are a nation of apathetic citizens. We must under-stand that this narcissism is destructive. Truth is being redened. God is mocked. Sin is celebrated. There is increased adultery, homosexuality, and promiscuity. Hollywood has poisoned the minds of the young. There is a lack of integrity in government. Gen Z is endorsing socialism. Witchcraft is promoted. We have gender confusion and sexual

Page 35

RE•BORN PAGE 25Have Iniquity and Narcissism Invaded the Gospel?anarchy. History books are being edited to change our perception of the past. Churches are more interested in making people happy than making them holy. When it was okay for everyone to do right in their own eyes, narcissism took over. How do we x this? The only solution is the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Cure for NarcissismThe gospel of Jesus is the power of God. It works against narcissism. The pure gospel has the power of God. But is our gospel the pure gospel? Has it been invaded? The Biblical Answer to an Invaded GospelLet’s look at Matthew 13:36–43. We need to recognize the problem of apathy. The prob-lems we are having today started while we slept, while we were not paying attention. We were unaware that the enemy (the devil) came and sowed the bad seeds. These bad seeds were shrewdly planted alongside the good seed. This was so shrewdly done, that the enemy does not need to hang around. The weeds or bad seed will work without the devil’s continual input. But the good seed are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the wicked one (those who reject or fake the gospel). These weeds are tolerated until the harvest. Those who follow Satan are tolerated until the end of the world. These will be gathered by the angels and be cast into the furnace of re. Pay attention to this passage of Scripture. The angels are not gathering from the world; they are gathering the weeds out of the kingdom—out of the Church! This is a separation of the authentic Christian and the hypocrite. Those who oend and do iniquity will be those who are removed.True Christianity is the solution—the cure to iniquity. God knows who is authentic. Only the right response to the gospel produces salvation. Again, who is on the throne of your heart? Jesus must be Lord, Sovereign, the Boss. We must call Jesus Lord and do what He says to do. We live for Christ, not for ourselves. No more narcissism; no more iniquity. Christ is on the throne.

RE•THINKHow to Think like GodLESSON1LESSON INTRODUCTIONYou will never be in a quandary if you learn to think like God. We have to change our way of thinking. We have to recognize the value and benets of thinking like God. If we do, we will not be confounded about any issue in our lives. Can you imagine the freedom that can bring you?SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/rethink1KEY VERSE“Your Word have I hidden in my heart.” Psalm 119:11KEY THOUGHTLearning how to think like God involves memorizing and medi-tating on His Word.

Page 40

RE•THINK PAGE 30RE•THINKHow to Think like God ThinksWe need to recognize the value and the benets of thinking like God. His way of think-ing frees us and keeps us from confusion. We need to begin searching the Scriptures for His thoughts as we read and study the Word. Once we nd a section that discusses His thoughts, we can categorize them by topic. As we go through this process, we must re-ject any and all opposing ideas or notions. (See 2 Timothy 2:15–16.) We should be aware and sensitive to God’s Spirit as we read the Word (John 16:13). Fellowshipping and col-laborating with others who are like-minded is of great benet! (See 1 John 1:3, 7.)Transfer God’s Thoughts into Our Hearts and MindsThese thoughts that we have found in our time of studying (the ones that we have categorized) are only in our mind. It is academic. We next need to transfer them into our hearts—from academic to functional. This is the only way that it actually impacts our mental health. King David said, “Your Word have I hidden in my heart” (Psalm 119:11). But how does this happen? Our goal is to have God in all of our thoughts.Memorize the Thoughts of GodPsalm 63:5–6 says, “My soul shall be satised as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.” Memorizing takes time, concentration, and repetition, but is worth the investment. God’s Spirit wants to help you as you memorize (John 14:26).Meditate on Each ThoughtBiblical meditation creates good mental health. This is not an emptying of our mind, but a lling of our mind with the Word of God. Biblical mediation creates acceptability with God. You don’t want to go through life thinking that you are not accepted by God. Meditation works through this. (See Romans 12.) Biblical meditation produces sweet-ness (Psalm 104:34). Biblical meditation will be the substance of our conversations and it helps you know the right ways (see Joshua 1:8). Keep in mind that this is a day and night

Page 41

RE•THINK PAGE 31How to Think like Godactivity. Prosperity and success automatically ow from this meditation. Thinking like God leads to acting like God! As you meditate, you will sense blessedness in your life. Having God’s Word in your heart allows you to thwart any evil spoken against you (1Peter 3:16). You will be able to defeat any enemy or opposition because you will have a ready word (Psalm 119:77–78). Meditation provides the proper basis for personal prot (1 Timothy 4:15).NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•THINKInside the Mind of GodLESSON2LESSON INTRODUCTIONThere is one essential problem that we have in the world today; it is that people’s concept of God has been patterned after them. Instead of us being like God, we are trying to make God like us. According to Romans 1, man tends to warp the con-cept of who God is. God says, “These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was altogether like you; but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes” (Psalm 50:21). What is inside the mind of God? What is He like? That’s what we will look at in this lesson.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/rethink2KEY VERSE“’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD.” Isaiah 55:8KEY THOUGHTGod’s thoughts are powerful, impactful, loving, and merciful.

Page 44

RE•THINK PAGE 34RE•THINKGod’s Thoughts Are Very HighGod’s thoughts are very superior to anything that man can even imagine. Unless He tells us what they are, we would never even be able to guess. “’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8–9). How high are the heavens? Incomprehensibly higher. That is how much higher God’s thoughts are than ours. We cannot fathom it. See Psalm 89:5–8. God’s awesome mind, so ele-vated above us, causes us to fall on our knees and worship Him. We should not treat Him like a buddy or an equal or a peer. We should have reverence toward Him (see Hebrews 12:28).God Speaks Some of His Thoughts“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but wa-ter the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10–11). God shares His thoughts with us in His Word. He also speaks some of His thoughts. By His Word, the heavens were made (Psalm 33:6). Genesis says repeatedly, “God said … and it was so.” God’s Spoken Thoughts Are Eective “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.… Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’” (Gen 1:3, 26).By His Word, God created the sun, the moon, dry land, sh, fowl, animals, mankind, etc. God’s mind contains thoughts of such magnitude that man can never grasp it. His thoughts, when spoken, make things happen. The Received Thoughts of God Aect UsLet’s continue with the Isaiah passage: “For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the eld shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut o” (Isaiah 55:12–13). When we receive the words of God, we will be in a perpetual state of joy and elation. His Word changes our soul.

Page 45

RE•THINK PAGE 35Inside the Mind of GodGod’s Thoughts Cannot Be NumberedThe ability to make wise decisions requires mental health and an emotional condition that enables intelligent choice. When we are inside the mind of God, we nd peace. See Psalm 40:5. God’s thoughts are thoughts about you, about your family, about your life! “How pre-cious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand” (Psalm 139:17–18). How many pieces of sand do you think there are? Yet you are part of the mind of God. There are no insignicant human beings.God’s Thoughts of You Are GraciousWhen God thinks about you, what are His thoughts? Joel says, “Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful” (Joel 2:13). “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). The nature of His thoughts toward us are of peace, and good, and a great future.God’s Thoughts of You Are IntimateGod’s thoughts of you are not generic thoughts. They are specic to you. See Psalm 139:1–6. God’s thoughts are very intimate!God’s Thoughts of You Are Loving“The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel!’” (Jeremiah 31:3–4). God’s Spirit wants to draw you closer to Him. He loves you and wants a relationship with you.God’s Thoughts of You Are RedemptiveGod never gets angry or bitter toward you. He is willing to start over and build you over. His love is redemptive. His redemption is so powerful and so complete, He can completely make all things new in your life. What Is in God’s Mind Is Also in His Heart“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16).

RE•THINKFoundations of Healthy ThoughtsLESSON3LESSON INTRODUCTIONVery few people think about what they think about. Thus, this lack of mental control can make a person susceptible to varying degrees of mental illness. The question for each of them becomes, “What is a good standard by which we should control our thoughts?” That is what this teaching is about. Our thoughts lead to feelings and feelings lead to attitudes and actions which in turn lead to elation or depression depending on the nature of our thinking. SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/rethink3KEY VERSE“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”Isaiah 26:3KEY THOUGHTIf you do not control your mind, you will not control your life.

Page 48

RE•THINK PAGE 38RE•THINKYou cannot prevent thoughts. They come from all sorts of places—the world around us, Satan, people, etc. What we need to do is have a ltering system that allows us to think in a healthy way.“For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righ-teous and upright is He” (Deuteronomy 32:3–4). God is a God of truth.God’s Word is a perfect communication of His intelligence“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. ‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD.… So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:7–8, 11). This is the God who has decided to communicate with us! He wants to give us His thoughts.God’s Word Is a Perfect Communication of Love“God is love” (1 John 4:7). Since God is love, He wants to communicate that love to us through His Word, His thoughts, as well as His actions.God’s Word Produces Joy and Peace“For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the eld shall clap their hands” (Isaiah 55:12). The result of God’s joy and peace, that come from God’s thoughts, is that life will be as though all of creation is applauding you!Peace Is the Core Condition of a Healthy Mind“The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). This peace which God imparts to you creates a condition in your soul that becomes a background for everything you do. If peace is the foundational element, when you make decisions, they will be accurate decisions.

Page 49

RE•THINK PAGE 39Foundations of Healthy ThoughtsMaking decisions when you don’t have peace will be detrimental. Don’t make decisions when you are fearful. Wait until you have peace. “And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]” (Philip-pians 4:7 AMP). You can achieve this peace by having the thoughts of God. If you do not control your mind, you will not control your life.“The God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:9b). This is the instruction that allows you to have the peace. Think on these things. What are you thinking about? Imag-ine if you are always thinking about bad news. How would you nd peace? If someone has oended you and you don’t “get over it,” you will end up contemplating it and be-coming bitter. This does not bring peace. If you don’t take care of this at a thinking level, it will un-do the peace you could have.“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8).The choice of what we think on determines our attitudes toward life.• Think on what is true (see Colossians 2:8).• Think on what is honest (free of deceit or pretense), not things that are dishonest. • Think on what is just (what is morally right).• Think on what is pure (authentic, genuine, not mixed or diluted). Keep in mind that the devil doesn’t usually come at us directly; he comes with partial truths. His temptations and way of thinking are not pure. They are diluted truths.• Think on what is lovely (tasteful, comely, suitable).• Think on what is of good report (reputable, well thought of, worthy of admiration).• Think on what has virtue (the absence of evil, has high moral standards, righteous).• Think on what is praiseworthy (commendable, applaudable). This list becomes a curriculum from God on how to have peace. If we lter our thoughts through this list, we will have peace.

RE•THINKWhat Seems Right vs. What Is RightLESSON4LESSON INTRODUCTIONThe dierence between right and wrong is obvious in most cases. How do you tell the dierence between what seems right and what is right? This is especially im-portant when the Scripture says that the “seems right” way ends in death so that even in laughter your heart is sorrowful. You cannot aord to make a mistake about knowing the dierence. This Bible based teaching is designed to clarify the issues so that you can know what is right instead of what seems right.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/rethink4KEY VERSE“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”Proverbs 14:12KEY THOUGHTLet’s be sure we are on the right path rst so that we can help others to join us.

Page 52

RE•THINK PAGE 42RE•THINKThere are many distractions in life that keep us from choosing what is right. But the Bible helps us to see reality for what it is … to see what actually is right.A Call to See as God Sees“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12). There is a way that seems to be the right way. There are plenty of these options. But these all lead to death, and destructions of diverse types. It seems right to watch TV violence or to listen to worldly music or to be sexually active outside of marriage or to drink in moderation or be a little dishonest on our income taxes or to skip church to watch the big game or to divorce or to be loyal to friends more than our parents. But what is the end of all these things?“Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief. The back-slider in heart will be lled with his own ways, but a good man will be satised from above” (Proverbs 14:13–14). How can you tell the dierence between what seems right and what actually is right? The best way is by looking in the Bible. Remember it is His Word that is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). It is essential that we are able to back up what we think, say, and do with the Scriptures. There is a danger that everyone around us is doing what they think is right. We may justify our actions because others are doing it and it doesn’t seem so wrong. We must go back to the Word of God and develop a Bible-trained mind.A Call to CompassionThis is a call to a right response to those who are going down the “seems right” pathway. “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9:36). We should have compassion on those around us even as Jesus had compassion on those who were going astray. “The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy” (Psalm 145:8). “O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD!” (Jeremi-ah 22:29). “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers

Page 53

RE•THINK PAGE 43What Seems Right vs. What Is Righther chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37). This verse leads us to our next point.A Call to GatherThis is a call to DO something. It is not enough to just see as God sees or to feel bad for those around us. We must act. “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should nd it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish” (Mat-thew 18:12–14). • We must leave the safe ones.• We must go after a lost one.• We must continue until we nd the lost one.• We must carry the lost one with joy.• We must bring the lost one back to safety (see Luke 14:23).• All will rejoice.• Heaven responds with joy.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”Action StepsDo you know someone who is following what seems right but really is not right? Page 56

RE•THINK PAGE 46RE•THINKSuccess: God’s WayAbundant life, which God promises, seems so far out of reach. How is it possible to achieve this type of life? This type of life is not out of reach. First, let’s dene abundant life. • Prosperity – “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful” (Psalm 1:1). This text shares three keys to happiness: do not follow the counsel of the ungodly; don’t hang out with sinners; and do not sit around with scorners (mockers). See also Psalm 1:2–3. Here are the rewards of walking in a godly manner.• Success – “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8). Stacked upon prosperity is success. • Wisdom – “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me” (Psalm 119:97–98). Whatever enemy comes against you, by doing this one activity, you will be victorious. You will have wisdom. You can respond to everything from God’s point of view.• Understanding – Continuing from the last verses, “I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients because I keep Your precepts” (Psalm 119:99–100). Here the key to abundant life is clearly shown: meditation.• Joy – “My soul shall be satised as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches” (Psalm 63:5–6). Joy is the exaltation of my inward spirit when I am in harmony with God and others. • Peace – “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stum-ble” (Psalm 119:165). When you are focusing on God’s Word, you will never be oended. You will have peace.• Power – “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.… Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:9, 11). By hiding God’s Word in our heart, we have the power over sin.

RE•THINK PAGE 47How to Have Success• Prot – “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy proting may appear to all” (1 Timothy 4:15 KJV).• Faith – “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).MeditationNotice the key word in every verse listed above and in every benet listed above—meditation! Biblical meditation is the process by which we ingest and digest God’s Word. Now the Word is not just in the Bible but in us, in our hearts, in our thoughts, in our minds, advising and con-trolling all actions and attitudes. This is the key to success. Meditation is like a cow chewing its cud. They chew and chew on the same food over and over. We should do the same with the Word of God. As we consider small portions of Scripture over and over, we gain new insights. • Find the right Scripture – This should be an appropriate verse of Scripture. It should apply to your current situation. You don’t need a large passage. Start with just one line (see Isaiah 28:10). • Memorize that one line – Don’t worry if this sounds hard. It gets easier the more you do this. Practice helps this a lot. Concentration and focus are also helpful. When you under-stand the line, it is easier to memorize.• Repeat and review over and over – Just like the cow chewing its cud, this has to be done repeatedly.• Personalize each thought of the passage – Make this personal. Put your name in the pas-sage if appropriate.• Picture the concepts – Some even draw pictures to help them memorize.• Turn each part of the passage into a prayer to God – When you turn this toward God, He becomes part of the process. • Apply the truth to your life – “You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7). This verse shows you when and where to med-itate!God’s ways are so high! But as we put His Word in our heart, His thoughts become our thoughts, His ways become our ways, and we have abundant life. (See Isaiah 55:7–9.) God’s Word put in-side us through meditation causes us to have genuine success! (See Isaiah 55:10–12.)

RE•THINKWhat God Does with Our SinsLESSON6LESSON INTRODUCTIONSin does real damage. It has caused great destruction in the world as well as in our minds and our relationships. It not only brought forth evil, but it also perverted our view of God. God did not want us to end up in the pile of human wreckage He surveyed in the world.God was not interested in us living in sin. His solution was to get rid of it. And He took the strongest measures ever to make that happen. He is the only one loving enough, wise enough, and caring enough to do this. How does God deal with the insidious problem of sin? By what means does He make the old pass away and everything become new? In this lesson, you will discover exactly what God does with sin—yours and mine.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/rethink6KEY VERSE“I write to you, little children, be-cause your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.” 1 John 2:12KEY THOUGHTThe consequences of our sins are great, but the freedom God oers is greater!

Page 60

RE•THINK PAGE 50RE•THINKThere are consequences of our sins. Here are a few:• Deserved death – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). See also Ezekiel 18:20.• Mental Impairment – “Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Romans 1:21).• Become self-delusional – “Professing to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22).• No longer see accurately – “And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creep-ing things” (Romans 1:23). See Matthew 5:8; Titus 1:15.• Contrive alternate religious views – “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualied for every good work” (Titus 1:16).• Become totally self-centered – “Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen” (Romans 1:25).• Deserved wrath – “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungod-liness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18).From Destruction to TransactionA transaction is a transfer of benets; an exchange between parties; a business deal; or a settlement. God has a transaction with us concerning our sins. “But we speak the wis-dom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucied the Lord of glory” (1 Corinthians 2:7–8). If the temple leaders understood the transaction that was taking place with the crucixion of Jesus, they never would have gone through with it! Peter, in speaking about Christ, said, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteous-ness—by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). “But He was wounded for our

Page 61

RE•THINK PAGE 51What God Does with Our Sinstransgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). By Christ’s death, we have the option to enter into a transaction with God in regard to our sins. How to Respond Emotionally to the CrossUsually, on Easter and even Communion, people are sad that Christ died and then hap-py that He rose again. But this is not biblical! The Word teaches us that for the JOY set before Him, He endured the cross (see Hebrews 12:2). Jesus had that joy because of His perspective (see Isaiah 53:10–11). We should respond to the cross with joyful grateful-ness (Romans 5:11; 1 Peter 1:8; Isaiah 12:3).What Does God Do with Our Sins• God forgives (1 John 2:12; Colossians 2:13–14).• God cleanses (1 John 1:7; Isaiah 1:18) .• God pardons (Isaiah 55:7). (A pardon requires authority and cancels legal conse-quences.)• God covers (Psalm 32:1; Psalm 85:2; 1 Peter 4:8). (This is a protection from conse-quences.)• God casts behind His back (Psalm 90:8; Isaiah 38:17).• God removes (Psalm 103:12).• God casts into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19).• God keeps silent (Ezekiel 33:16).• God blots out (Isaiah 44:22; Isaiah 43:25).• God forgets (Isaiah 43:25; Hebrews 10:16–17). (Never doubt that the God who can make something out of nothing, can make nothing out of something.)NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•EMOTEHow to Control Your EmotionsLESSON1LESSON INTRODUCTIONWithout emotion there will probably be no motion. Emotions can cause devotion, promotion, and even locomotion, but if our emotions are out of control, we are out of control. Emotions were never meant to be our guidance system. They cannot be allowed to overpower us. This teaching has already set thousands free from emo-tional bondage. Tried and true, the principles taught in this teaching are vital to living in victory all the time, every time.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reemote1KEY VERSE“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 KJVKEY THOUGHTWe have the weapons and the power through Christ to control our thoughts and renew our mind!

Page 70

RE•EMOTE PAGE 60RE•EMOTEFeelings Come from Thinking ThoughtsIn the same way that a trailer follows a car, our feelings always follow our thoughts. Thoughts come from what we see; what we smell; what we taste; what we hear; our memory; music; movies; advertisements; self; others; Satan; God; imagination; our nature; our heart. If you think on a thought, a feeling is produced. Then feelings lead to attitudes and/or actions, which in turn lead to consequences. If someone wants you to buy their product, they know you must feel the need for their product. The way to make that happen is to give you a thought (through advertising) that makes you feel the need for this item.If you think on a thought, a feeling will move you to action or attitude. This in turn produces a sense of rightness or a sense of guilt depending on the nature of the thought (at the begin-ning). Guilt leads to depression. If we continue to allow this system to feed on itself, we end up with a habit of thinking. We need a Savior to break this cycle (see Romans 7).Casting Down ImaginationsIf God says ee, FLEE! If God says ght, FIGHT! God instructs us to ee things like fornication, pornography, idolatry, youthful lusts and the love of money. If we ght these things, we have to think on them. That feeds the system. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4–5 KJV).Casting Down Every High ThingContinuing from the same verses, it says, “Casting down … every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God.” If you cast down the imaginations and the high things that THOUGHTSFEELINGSATTITUDESACTIONSDEPRESSIONGUILT

Page 71

RE•EMOTE PAGE 61How to Control Your Emotionsoppose God, then you don’t have to deal with these things in your emotions or your actions and attitudes. Casting down is an amazing weapon!Bringing into Captivity Every ThoughtThese verses continue by instructing us to bring into captivity every thought, the contents of which are in agreement with the thinking of Christ Himself. We must control the thought processes in the mind (see Romans 12:1–2). Remember, what we sow in our thoughts, we will reap in our actions and attitudes. So, we need to stop the wrong thoughts at the beginning and replace them with thoughts that comply with Christ thinking. Thought replacement causes feeling replacement.Think on These Things“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippi-ans 4:8 KJV). These are the only things that we should have in our mind. This is our lter system for what should be allowed in our mind. Our thoughts must meet all this criterion. A thought might be true, but if it is not pure, it should be ltered. Each thought must be checked against every part of this verse. If we add this lter, our actions and attitudes will be in control because our feelings are in con-trol. Our feelings are in control because our mind is in control. Our mind is in control because our lter is working. This system allows us to control our emotions.THOUGHTSFEELINGSATTITUDESACTIONSELATIONJOYFILTER

RE•EMOTEHow to Properly Control EmotionsLESSON2LESSON INTRODUCTIONControlling emotions requires us to pull down the strongholds in our mind. This cannot be done in the esh, but, thankfully, God gives us the steps and the ability to overcome these strongholds. This lesson introduces you to the methods of war-fare necessary for pulling down strongholds and controlling your emotions.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reemote2KEY VERSE“For though we walk in the esh, we do not war according to the esh.”2 Corinthians 10:3KEY THOUGHTUsing the right weapons, we can shift our thinking to God’s thoughts.

Page 74

RE•EMOTE PAGE 64RE•EMOTEThoughts produce feelings. These feelings lead to attitudes and actions. The next step is depression and guilt, which feeds back into this cycle or habit. When those starting thoughts are unhealthy, it leads to depression, but when those starting thoughts are healthy, the result is elation and joy. So, how do we break this cycle?“For though we walk in the esh, we do not war according to the esh” (2 Corinthians 10:3). The esh gives us a thought that we do not want to process. But if we focus on this temptation, we are now thinking about it! There are things we should ght and things we should ee. These temptations should be ed from, not fought against, because by ghting a thought we are thinking about it … and yikes … it becomes the more power-ful. According to the Scriptures, we are to ee fornication, youthful lusts, and greed. (See 1 Corinthians 6:18; 2 Timothy 2:22; 1 Timothy 6:11.) Never ght if God says ee!When we do ght, God gives us the might to be able to succeed. Continuing in 2 Corinthians 10, verse 4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” When we put these principles into practice, we get God’s help and the ability to pull down mental and thus emotional strongholds!Weapons That Defeat StrongholdsWe have been given various weapons to defeat these strongholds. Here are ve weap-ons:1. Cast down imaginations contrary to God. “Casting down arguments” (2 Corinthians 10:5a). We should not ponder unhealthy thoughts. These thoughts should be cast down. This is not an emotional battle. It is a mental battle.2. Cast down everything contrary to God. “And every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5b). This goes beyond imagina-tions. Everything and anything that is contrary to God should also be cast down. 3. Retain Christ-honoring thoughts. “Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5c). Any thoughts that remain after casting down the unhealthy thoughts, should be thoughts that honor Christ. We bring

Page 75

RE•EMOTE PAGE 65How to Properly Control Emotionsthese thoughts into the mind and allow these thoughts through the lter that we mentioned in the last session from Philippians 4:8.4. Meditate day and night in God’s Word. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1–2).5. Proper praying—communing with God. “He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him, He shall see His face with joy, for He restores to man His righteousness” (Job 33:26). God is full of mercy. He does not deal with us as we deserve. If we pray to Him, God will delight in us. The King James Version says, “God will be favorable unto him.” When we pray to God, God is joyful! And God gives us His righteous-ness! As we use this weapon (prayer), God is now able to input into our thoughts His righteousness. How Prayer Aects ThoughtsGod’s on-owing will and ways are so much higher than our ways. But when we pray, our thoughts and ideas are given over to God. God arms or adjusts our thoughts and ideas and brings them into alignment with His. When we do this, we are now living a godly thought life.As thoughts come to us, we might struggle with the question of the origin (is it from God?). There are three questions that help with this determination:1. Does this thought or idea line up with the Scriptures?2. Does this thought or idea align with God’s nature?3. Does this thought or idea glorify God?In conclusion, as we have God’s thoughts, we will have helpful emotions, actions and attitudes, and elation and joy.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•EMOTEHow to Control Your ImaginationsLESSON3LESSON INTRODUCTIONOne of our problems today is that we do not bend our lives to t our consciences. Instead, we bend our consciences to t our lives. The result of this is a condition of powerlessness. If we want to master the internal part of our life, we have to control our imaginations. We don’t want others to control us by controlling our imagina-tions.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reemote3KEY VERSE“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.” Psalm 57:7KEY THOUGHTEither we control our imagina-tions or our imaginations control us!

Page 78

RE•EMOTE PAGE 68RE•EMOTEWe Are to Master the Internal“By your patience possess your souls” (Luke 21:19). We are to possess our mind, our will, and our emotions. “To possess” means to bring under our jurisdiction. “Receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:9). When we are saved, we have the Spirit of God in us. As we begin our walk with God, we need to nd the salvation of our emotions, our mind, our will. We need to be in control of these things. “That each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctication and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God” (1 Thessalonians 4:4–5). “Vessel” means implement, equipment, or apparatus. We should know how to possess our ap-paratus. And we are to do this in sanctication (which means purity) and honor (highest degree). We are not to do this in the drive of our passions for what we should not have. We are to possess ourselves, or master ourselves. “I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me” (John 14:30). If we have some secret desire, Satan has power to tempt us because of that precondition. We must remove those internal secret desires. How to Master the InternalWe master the internal by mastering our imaginations. “Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery?” (Ezekiel 8:12 KJV). What are we like in the dark? What is in our imagination? This must be dealt with! “Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?” (Psalm 2:1).Imagination is a mental image or representation of something that is not there. The Bible talks a lot about imagination. For example: “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you o forever” (1 Chronicles 28:9). The Bible lists six dierent types of imaginations: evil, mischievous, vain, wrong, wicked, and good.

Page 79

RE•EMOTE PAGE 69How to Control Your ImaginationsHow to Control Imaginations1. Recognize the power of imagination. “And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do” (Genesis 11:6 KJV). Imagination is more powerful than will power. See also Jeremiah 7:23–24.2. Recognize that imagination originates in our heart. “An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief” (Proverbs 6:18 KJV). See also Luke 1:51; 1 Chronicles 28:9; Mark 7:21–23; and Genesis 6:5. The heart is where the problem is and from there it proceeds to our mind.3. Recognize that we are responsible to God for what we imagine. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, cast-ing down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corin-thians 10:4–5). See also Zechariah 7:10.4. Recognize that imagination aects our behavior. “And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart” (Jeremiah 18:12 KJV). 5. Set our heart. “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise” (Psalm 57:7). We must control our heart in order to control our imagina-tion. See also Psalm 112:7.6. Deny access to every source of evil imaginations. “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). We need to stop this at the source. Anything that is opposed to what the Bible says, we are to cast down. The heart is the reservoir of our thoughts.7. Do not minimize the damning consequences of accepting evil imaginations. “And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart” (Jeremiah 18:12 KJV). If we accept these evil imaginations, they will control us! See also Deuteronomy 29:19–21.

Page 80

RE•EMOTE PAGE 70RE•EMOTE8. Use imagination in godly directions. “I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly oered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to oer willingly unto thee. O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee” (1 Chronicles 29:17–18 KJV).9. Learn to sing Scriptural songs. “And I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods. ‘Now therefore, write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Isra-el; put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the chil-dren of Israel. When I have brought them to the land owing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and lled themselves and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke Me and break My covenant. Then it shall be, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify against them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten in the mouths of their descendants, for I know the inclination of their behavior today, even before I have brought them to the land of which I swore to give them.’ Therefore Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel” (Deuteronomy 31:18–22). Singing is an antidote for wrong imag-inations. See also Revelation 15:3 and Psalm 57:7. By the way, be careful. Much contemporary music has imbedded evil imaginations. Watch out and censor your music, videos, advertisements, and entertainments.10. Maintain a “worship” relationship with God. “Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they be-came fools” (Romans 1:21–22). Keeping the right relationship with God allows us to successfully control our emotions.

It is not just believing, but obeying the Scriptures that reveals the genuine Christian. “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His command-ments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him” (1 John 2:3–5). It is by our obedience that we know that we are His. See also Ecclesiastes 12:13 and 1 John 5:2–3. Commandments and love are not opposed to each other. In fact, keeping His commandments is proof of our love for Him.The Nature of God’s Commands1. They are delightful. “Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I de-light in it” (Psalm 119:35).2. They are lovable. “And I will delight myself in Your commandments, which I love” (Psalm 119:47). See also Psalm 119:127.3. They are faithful. “All Your commandments are faithful” (Psalm 119:86a).4. They are desirable. “I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your com-mandments” (Psalm 119:131).5. They are right. “Your testimonies, which You have commanded, are righteous and very faithful” (Psalm 119:138). See also Psalm 119:172.

RE•EMOTEThe Logic of LoveLESSON5LESSON INTRODUCTIONDo you think you are as smart as God? Can you imagine how smart God must be to create all the sh or the elephants or mountains? Man is nowhere near smart enough to even come close to God’s intelligence and wisdom. Yet mankind wants to compete with God! How ludicrous! Let’s look at God’s logic in this lesson.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reemote5KEY VERSE“God is love.”1 John 4:8KEY THOUGHTWhen we think like God, we let love rule our thoughts, our tongue, and our actions.

Page 88

RE•EMOTE PAGE 78RE•EMOTEThe Logic of God“To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?” (Isa-iah 40:18). “To whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal and compare Me, that we should be alike?” (Isaiah 46:5). Of course, we are not as smart as God. “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, measured heaven with a span and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or as His coun-selor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sucient to burn, nor its beasts sucient for a burnt oering. All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless. To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?” (Isaiah 40:12–18). “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8–9). God is so far beyond us that we are less than dust. “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him. For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet” (Psalm 8:4–6). We are made in His likeness, but we are nowhere near His abilities. God Is Logical1. The logic of God is the logic of love. “God is love” (1 John 4:8). See also Romans 5:8; John 3:16; Jeremiah 31:3–4.2. Switching to the logic of God is the ultimate logic. “Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the

Page 89

RE•EMOTE PAGE 79The Logic of Loveunrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6–7).3. Switching to the logic of God is switching to the logic of love. “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:11). See also 1 John 4:7–12.4. Love is the evidence that we have switched to the logic of God. “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).5. The logic of love comes from the philosophy of God. “God is love” (1 John 4:7–8).6. Love is an intent, an ultimate intention (to relentlessly and caringly pursue the highest possible good for every person in every situation). Intent always precedes content. 7. The logic of love demands authenticity. “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly aectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another” (Romans 12:9–10). See also 2 Corinthians 6:3, 6 and 1 Timothy 1:5–6.The Logic of Love“That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—” (Ephesians 4:14–15). If we have the intent of love when we go to speak to someone, that love frames the whole conversation. Love should always control the tongue. “For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a per-fect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by erce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherev-er the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little re kindles! And the tongue is a re, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it deles the whole body, and sets on re the

Page 90

RE•EMOTE PAGE 80RE•EMOTEcourse of nature; and it is set on re by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a g tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear gs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh” (James 3:2–12). The tongue should always be controlled. This is done by love. “A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul” (Proverbs 18:6–7). This is the opposite of what we want. We should be like the woman mentioned in Proverbs 31: “She opens her mouth with wis-dom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26).When we are ruled by the logic of God and thereby the logic of love, we can control our tongue.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•EMOTEHow to Calmly Face OppositionLESSON6LESSON INTRODUCTIONWhat do you do when you are put down? Or hated? Or feel heart pains? Or face fear? Or feel weak? Or feel like running away? What do you do when you have a “Judas” in your life, a traitor, or a disloyal friend? The secrets to handling all of the above with peace and calm are found in the ancient but vet-ted and veried Scriptures. Psalms is a book within the Bible. And chapter fty-ve unfolds these secrets. They are simple, strong, and sustaining. Best of all they are very doable. View this teaching and you will discover what to most has been unseen and unknowable.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reemote6KEY VERSE“Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22KEY THOUGHTGod has given us the steps to walk in peace and to calmly face any opposition.

Page 94

RE•EMOTE PAGE 84RE•EMOTEHow to Calmly Face OppositionWe all face opposition. How do we face this opposition without fear? Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). Jesus does not want us to be fearful.1. Prayer is always to be a rst action. “Give ear to my prayer, O God, and do not hide Yourself from my supplication. Attend to me, and hear me” (Psalm 55:1–2a). Once we pray about something, we move from our limited human wisdom to a divine wisdom.2. Prayers need not necessarily be coherent. “I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily” (Psalm 55:2b). See also Romans 8.3. Pray because of enemy vocal attacks. “Because of the voice of the enemy” (Psalm 55:3a). Satan is going to accuse the Christian. When you hear these, pray. Listen for the voice of God. Make the voice of God the loudest voice you listen to!4. Pray because of enemy oppression. “Because of the oppression of the wicked” (Psalm 55:3b). If you don’t go to God at this point, oppression can last for a long time. Prayer moves us out of oppression.5. Pray when you are put down. “For they bring down trouble upon me” (Psalm 55:3c). God wants to lift you up.6. Pray when you are hated. “And in wrath they hate me” (Psalm 55:3d).7. Pray when you feel pain in your heart. “My heart is severely pained within me” (Psalm 55:4a). When we are really upset, pray.8. Pray when you think it’s killing you. “And the terrors of death have fallen upon me” (Psalm 55:4b).9. Pray when you sense fear or weakness. “Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me” (Psalm 55:5).10. Pray when you feel like running away. “So I said, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would y away and be at rest. Indeed, I would wander far o, and remain in the

Page 95

RE•EMOTE PAGE 85How to Calmly Face Oppositionwilderness. Selah. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest’” (Psalm 55:6–8).11. Ask for divine action as you observe. “Destroy, O LORD, and divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around it on its walls; iniquity and trouble are also in the midst of it. Destruction is in its midst; oppression and deceit do not depart from its streets” (Psalm 55:9–11). When we are under attack, it aects everything around us and how we see things. 12. Expect a Judas (or so) in your life. “For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in the throng. The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords” (Psalm 55:12–14, 21). At this point, we often face a betrayal from someone close to us. Many times, this is sudden or unexpected.a. Judas is perceived to be a friend.b. Judas reproaches (discredits) you.c. Judas pretends not to hate you. He does not have your best interest.d. Judas arrogantly insults you.e. Judas is a peer.f. Judas has been your advisor.g. Judas is a close acquaintance.h. Judas is one with whom you have had good times.i. Judas is a fellow churchgoer.j. Judas uses smooth talk to cover hate (see v. 21). 13. Let them go to judgment. “Let death seize them; let them go down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them” (Psalm 55:15). The betrayer now has to deal with the consequences of their betrayal. It is better to be betrayed than to be the betrayer.

Page 96

RE•EMOTE PAGE 86RE•EMOTE 14. Stick to being close to the Savior. “As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me” (Psalm 55:16). 15. Pray three times a day. “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17). Evening, morning, and noon are the times mentioned to pray. The idea here is to pray throughout your day. 16. Keep your peace. “He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many against me” (Psalm 55:18). If you make decisions when you are troubled, you will make bad decisions. Wait until you are at peace. 17. Realize the betrayer is in trouble with God. “God will hear, and aict them, even He who abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God” (Psalm 55:19). You don’t have to do anything. God will aict them. 18. Realize the betrayer is a Judas. “He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has broken his covenant” (Psalm 55:20). 19. You will always be okay. “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). God will sustain you! 20. God will deal with every Judas. “But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You” (Psalm 55:23). This is how David was able to survive. This is what Jesus is talking about when He en-couraged us to live in peace. Pray and be sure to go to the Scriptures to get godly direc-tions.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

RE•PLAN PAGE 92RE•PLANGeneral Purposes for Your Life1. Know God. “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suerings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:10). God wants us to know Him intimately! Imagine knowing God, Designer of all and Cre-ator of you!2. Love God. “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the rst and great command-ment’” (Matthew 22:37–38). See also 1 Corinthians 2:9.3. Glorify God. “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). See also 1 Corinthians 6:20; 10:31. Our purpose is to bring the most glory to God possible. Every aspect of our life must move in the same direction. Smaller decisions should contribute to the same goal—to glorify God.4. Be Useable (by God). “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its avor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:13–14).Specic Purpose for Your LifeWhen seeking to nd our specic purpose in life, there are steps we can take to discover it.1. It may come by prayer and fasting. “As they ministered to the LORD and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2).2. It will advance the kingdom of God. “He has delivered us from the power of dark-ness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love” (Colossians 1:13).3. It will benet others. “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striv-ing according to His working which works in me mightily” (Colossians 1:27–29).

Page 103

RE•PLAN PAGE 93How to Know God’s Purpose for Your Life4. It will come by faithfulness in little things. “He who is faithful in what is least is faith-ful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much” (Luke 16:10). See also Matthew 25:21.5. It will come by serving others. “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Matthew 23:11–12).6. It will be conrmed by “rhemas.” “This will be the third time I am coming to you. ‘By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established’” (2 Corinthi-ans 13:1). “Rhema” is the Greek word for “Word”. A “rhema” is a “logos” (Scripture/Word from God) quickened by the Spirit to apply to your life. See Matthew 4:4. God’s own Word will conrm the specic purpose for your life. 7. It will come to you at the right time. “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season” (Psalm 1:3a).8. It will become clearer as time passes. “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day” (Proverbs 4:18).9. It may not be understood by others. “Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart” (see Luke 2:49–52). Even when others don’t understand our purpose, we should still stay under our authorities.10. It will have to go through a “death” experience. “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain” (John 12:24). A goal or purpose should never be more im-portant than God.11. It will be related to your spiritual gift, your Embedded Natural Ability (ENA). “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith … Having then gifts diering according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them” (Romans 12:3, 6).

Keeping resolutions doesn’t seem to be an easy matter.A resolution is a re-solution, a re-solving. It is to re-solutionize an area of life for the better. And any resolution worth doing is worth doing for a lifetime. It should be a lifelong resolve.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/replan2KEY VERSE“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11KEY THOUGHTGod’s plans for you are awesome! RE•PLAN PAGE 96RE•PLANBasis for Lifelong Resolutions1. The past is passed. “Behold, the former things have come to pass” (Isaiah 42:9a). If we are resolved to make a change in the future, we need to leave the past in the past. See 2 Corinthians 5:17. This is the doctrine of Remission. The laws of Calvary supersede the laws of reaping. See also 1 Corinthians 5:6–7; Luke 5:36.2. New things are intended by God. “And new things I declare” (Isaiah 42:9b). See Isa-iah 48:5–6.3. God wants you to know His intentions. “Before they spring forth I tell you of them” (Isaiah 42:9c).4. God’s plans for you are awesome. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and nd Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be car-ried away captive” (Jeremiah 29:11–14).a. Where did you come from?b. Where are you going?c. Who are you?d. Why are you on this planet?e. Why were you created?f. What is your purpose in life?g. What are you supposed to be doing? 5. God’s will for your life is exactly what you would choose if you knew all the facts. 6. The best plan for your life is God’s plan.

Reject the inuence of worldly sources. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2). See also James 4:4.2. Seek God with a whole heart. “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrec-tion, and the fellowship of His suerings, being conformed to His death” (Philippi-ans 3:10). See also Proverbs 9:10–11.3. Duplicate the character of Christ. “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son…” (Romans 8:29). See also Galatians 4:19.4. Discover, develop, and use your spiritual gift, your Embedded Natural Ability. “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.… Having then gifts diering according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…” (Romans 12:3, 6).5. RE•PLANThe Rewards of DiligenceLESSON3LESSON INTRODUCTIONGod is a rewarder. He is not a rewarder to those who seek Him, but He is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). The Scriptures consistently ex-plain very special rewards to those who develop the character quality of diligence. This teaching will demonstrate to you the 24 rewards of diligence and warn of the three enemies of diligence.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/replan3KEY VERSE“But without faith it is impossi-ble to please Him, for … He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.“Hebrews 11:6KEY THOUGHTWisdom will show you what to do. Page 110

RE•PLAN PAGE 100RE•PLANDiligenceBeing diligent can bring great rewards. See Proverbs 21:5 and Hebrews 11:6.The Enemies of Diligence1. Slothfulness. “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor” (Proverbs 12:24).2. Haste. “The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5).3. Distractions. “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me” (Psalm 101:3). See also Proverbs 18:1.The Rewards of Diligence1. Maintains health. “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).2. Assures national security. “And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day? Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren” (Deuteronomy 4:8–9).3. Assures our children’s future. “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7).4. Assures our well-being. “You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you” (Deuteronomy 6:17–18a).

Page 111

RE•PLAN PAGE 101The Rewards of Diligence5. Qualies God to deal with your enemies. “For if you carefully keep all these com-mandments which I command you to do—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—then the LORD will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than your-selves” (Deuteronomy 11:22–23).6. Assures law and order. “And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testied falsely against his brother, then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you” (Deuteronomy 19:18–19).7. Is the key to blessing. “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth” (Deuteronomy 28:1).8. Prevents shame. “You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently.… Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments” (Psalm 119:4, 6).9. Solves the issues of life. “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).10. Produces nancial rewards. “He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Proverbs 10:4).11. Produces favor. “He who earnestly seeks good nds favor, but trouble will come to him who seeks evil” (Proverbs 11:27).12. Leads to job promotion. “The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor” (Proverbs 12:24).13. Prevents waste. “The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, but dili-gence is man’s precious possession” (Proverbs 12:27).14. Produces abundance. “The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5).

Page 112

RE•PLAN PAGE 10215. Leads to inuence. “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men” (Proverbs 22:29).16. Leads to satisfaction of the soul. “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you—the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:2–3).17. Makes the promises of God come true. “Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the LORD. Then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God” (Zechariah 6:15).18. Prevents legal judgments. “When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every eort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the ocer, and the ocer throw you into prison” (Luke 12:58).19. Is the key to recovery. “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she nds it?” (Luke 15:8).20. Qualies for benevolence. “Well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the aicted, if she has diligently followed every good work” (1 Timothy 5:10).21. Prevents bitterness, fornication, and greed. “Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become deled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:15–16).22. Is the key to spiritual growth. “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to RE•PLAN

Page 113

RE•PLAN PAGE 103brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be nei-ther barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:5–8).23. Prevents failure. “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble” (2 Peter 1:10).24. Produces full assurance. “And we desire that each one of you show the same dili-gence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Hebrews 6:11–12).Wisdom will show you what to do. RE•PLANThe Benets of Developing ConvictionsLESSON4LESSON INTRODUCTIONIn a world of compromise some men don’t. Some men (and women) hold convic-tions. A conviction is a Scriptural principle which we commit to follow no matter what the cost. Convictions are not for sale, not for any price. In this teaching you will discover the great benets that God promises for men and women of conviction.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/replan4KEY VERSE“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not dele himself.”Daniel 1:8aKEY THOUGHTDevelop convictions NOW; don’t wait for a moment of decision.

Page 116

RE•PLAN PAGE 106RE•PLANConvictions Enable Us To:1. Make present commitments to avoid future failure.2. Evaluate courses of action quickly and accurately.3. Develop all our energies to a course of action which we know is right.4. Refuse to reconsider what we know is right or wrong.Denition: a conviction is a basic Scriptural principle which we purpose to follow whatever the cost. “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not dele himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not dele himself” (Daniel 1:8). What convictions do you have? What are you willing to die for? Let’s look at the book of Daniel. 1. Convictions are formed before the crisis. “Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, ute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning ery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” (Daniel 3:15).2. Convictions are not negotiable. “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning ery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king’” (Daniel 3:16–17).3. Convictions are not based on circumstances. “But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up” (Daniel 3:18).4. Convictions stand in the face of adversity regardless of consequences. “Then Nebu-chadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning ery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning ery fur-nace” (Daniel 3:19–21).

Page 117

RE•PLAN PAGE 107The Benets of Developing Convictions5. Men and women of convictions will stand when others cannot. “Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the ame of the re killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego” (Daniel 3:22).6. Those with conviction accept the consequences of conviction because they realize that compromise is worse. “And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning ery furnace” (Daniel 3:23). See 2 Timothy 3:1–8. 7. God accompanies men and women of conviction. “Then King Nebuchadnezzar was as-tonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, ‘Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the re?’ They answered and said to the king, ‘True, O king.’ ‘Look!’ he answered, ‘I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the re; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God’” (Daniel 3:24–25).8. God is honored by our being true to convictions. “Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning ery furnace and spoke, saying, ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.’ Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the re. And the satraps, administra-tors, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the re had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments aected, and the smell of re was not on them” (Daniel 3:26–27).9. God vindicates those with convictions. “Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, ‘Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! There-fore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.’ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon” (Daniel 3:28–30).

RE•PLANUnderstanding the Seven Ways the Holy Spirit Works in YouLESSON5LESSON INTRODUCTIONThe Holy Spirit does more than just things in our spirit, He also does things in our hearts, our souls, our minds, our emotions. In fact, He also does things in our bod-ies. This lesson covers God’s intentions for you and the seven ways the Holy Spirit works in us.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/replan5KEY VERSE“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God.”1 Corinthians 2:12KEY THOUGHTGod wants His Spirit to work in you and the benets are pretty amazing!

RE•PLAN PAGE 110RE•PLANWhat God Intends for You1. God’s intentions cannot be seen by the eye. “Eye has not seen…” (1 Corinthians 2:9).2. God’s intentions cannot be heard by the ear. “…nor ear heard…” (1 Corinthians 2:9).3. God’s intentions do not just enter in the heart. “…nor have entered into the heart of man” (1 Corinthians 2:9).4. God’s intentions are revealed to us by the Spirit. “The things which God has pre-pared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).5. We can know other people by their spirit. “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?” (1 Corinthians 2:11).6. The things of God are only revealed by the Spirit. “Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:11).7. The Holy Spirit is intent on communicating with us. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).8. We are taught by the Holy Spirit in a manner which is superior to man’s wisdom. “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches” (1 Corinthians 2:13a).9. We compare spiritual things. “…comparing spiritual things with spiritual” (1 Corin-thians 2:13b).10. The natural man cannot grasp the things of God. “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).11. We have access to God’s insights. “But he who is spiritual judges all things” (1 Corin-thians 2:15a).12. Others cannot gure it out. “Yet he himself is rightly judged by no one” (1 Corinthi-ans 2:15b).13. We do not give instructions to God. “For ‘who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?’” (1 Corinthians 2:16a).14. He reveals His thinking to us. “But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16b).

We are called; we are chosen; and we are faithful.“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one en-gaged in warfare entangles himself with the aairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules” (2 Timothy 2:3–5). What It Means to Be a Soldier1. One who participates in warfare. “Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I ght: not as one who beats the air” (1 Corinthians 9:26). See also 1 Timothy 6:12; 2 Timothy 4:7–8; and 1 Timothy 1:18–19.2. One who separates from many civilian interests. “You therefore must endure hard-ship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the aairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3–4). Wartime issues mean that we cut back on civilian pursuits. There is no time for entertainment, distractions, excessive shopping, etc. See also Mat-thew 6:24.3. One who lives by commandment. “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His com-mandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him” (1 John 2:3–5). See also Hebrews 5:9 and Acts 5:32–33. Before I decide, speak, or act in any given situation, I rst check to see if God has a commandment that applies. If so, I obey that commandment immediately, joyfully, and without compromise.4. The commandments of God are not interferences to us but happy guidelines to do that upon which our hearts are set. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).

Page 125

RE•PLAN PAGE 115Called to Be a SoldierWhat Is So Joyful about Commandments?1. The commands are delightful. “Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it” (Psalm 119:35).2. The commands are lovable. “And I will delight myself in Your commandments, which I love” (Psalm 119:47).3. The commands are faithful. “All Your commandments are faithful” (Psalm 119:86).4. The commands are desirable. “I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your commandments” (Psalm 119:131).5. The commands are right. “Your testimonies, which You have commanded, are righteous and very faithful.… My tongue shall speak of Your word, for all Your com-mandments are righteousness” (Psalm 119:138, 172).6. The commands are truthful. “You are near, O LORD, and all Your commandments are truth” (Psalm 119:151).7. The commands are not grievous. “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165).8. The commands are the whole duty of man. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV).NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Reaching out to oth-ers can be quite dangerous if we, ourselves, are not authentic followers of the Lord Jesus. A genuine Christian, by any accurate denition, is someone who is “All In!” No half-hearted Christianity is Christian. Authenticity is essential. We reproduce in oth-ers what we, ourselves, are. Half-heartedness will produce half-heartedness which equals hypocrisy, fake versions of Christianity. “All In to Reach Out” is our starting point and it will be followed by the “How Tos.” But here is where we start.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reproduce1KEY VERSE“The man who trusts God, but with inward reservations, is like a wave of the sea, carried forward by the wind one moment and driven back the next.” James 1:7 PHILLIPSKEY THOUGHTWe must be “all in” without reser-vation before we can eectively reach out to share the truth with others.

Page 130

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 120RE•PRODUCEIf we are not living an authentic gospel, we cannot reach others with the truth. We must live for Christ without any reservations. This includes using our resources to share the truth with zero compromise.“The man who trusts God, but with inward reservations, is like a wave of the sea, carried forward by the wind one moment and driven back the next. That sort of man cannot hope to receive anything from God, and the life of a man of divided loyalty will reveal instability at every turn” (James 1:7–8 PHILLIPS).1. Being all in is the essence of the genuine Christian. “Whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:27). See also Luke 14:33.2. Being all in is the way to salvage one’s life. “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will nd it. For what prot is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?’” (Matthew 16:24–26).3. Being all in is to live by every word of God. “But He answered and said, ‘It is writ-ten, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”’” (Matthew 4:4 and Luke 4:4). See also Luke 6:46.4. Being all in is to continue the maintenance of convictions. “When the enemy comes in like a ood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19). See also Jeremiah 50:2.a. Establish standards (see Jeremiah 50:2).b. Maintain those standards (see Romans 12:2). 5. Being all in is to maintain a vertical connection with God’s Spirit. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). See also John 16:13. 6. Being all in is to “dehecktify” in order to do time management. Dehecktify—remov-ing the hectic aspects of life in order to control time for the purpose of reaching out. “And He said to them, ‘Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life

Page 131

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 121All In to Reach Outdoes not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses’” (Luke 12:15). See also Colossians 3:1–2. 7. Being all in means that we are indistractable. “And this I say for your own prot, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction” (1 Corinthians 7:35). 8. Being all in is necessary in order to reach out. “Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you shers of men’” (Matthew 4:19). You cannot lead where you do not go. And you cannot teach what you do not know.To reach out, we have to use the right motive, manner, medium, and message. Using those, we get attention, create interest, give the message, wait for the Spirit to convict, wait for them to have the desire, and nally close the deal.NOTES __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

LESSON4SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reproduce4RE•PRODUCEFriendship: The Goal of ReconciliationLESSON INTRODUCTIONDo you have a lot of “friends” on social media? In our culture, we use the term “friend” very loosely. We can “friend” and “unfriend” people at the push of a button. But what does the Bible say about friendship and reconciliation? Reconciliation lays the groundwork for true friendship. God will help us restore broken relation-ships with others by guiding us through the biblical directives He has given, so that we can do our part in the restoration process. If we follow the principles outlined in this teaching, friendship may be possible again.KEY VERSE“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself … and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19KEY THOUGHTReconciliation is a necessary step in our maturing as a follower of Christ.

Page 142

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 132RE•PRODUCEFriendship: The Goal of ReconciliationReconciliation is:1. Not salvation, but can lead to salvation. “That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19). See also Romans 5:10.2. Not a x for broken relationships, but the basis of xing it. “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1).3. Not a substitute for justice. “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are ap-pointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same” (Romans 13:1–3). There is a dierence between forgiveness and pardon. A pardon is an action on the part of a proper authority in a state, releasing a person from the punishment imposed by a sentence of that which is due according to law.4. Not the by-passing of correction. “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering your-self lest you also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1). Correction is still necessary.5. Not a substitute for enforcing proper authority. “’Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,’ says the LORD, ‘For I am with you; for I will make a complete end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, for I will not leave you wholly unpunished” (Jeremiah 46:28).6. The starting point for:a. Salvationb. Repairing relationshipsc. Correcting othersd. Establishing authoritye. Becoming friends

You might be shocked to discover that if you are in the middle, just average, you are in big trouble. Here is what the Scriptures say: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, be-cause you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:15–16). This lesson is designed to give you a way to change, a way to become “red hot” after God, and stay that way the rest of your life.KEY VERSE“So then, because you are luke-warm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” Revelation 3:16KEY THOUGHTWe must choose to be red hot for God!

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 138RE•PRODUCEWarnings from the RevelationLet’s look at some of the letters to the churches listed in Revelation 2–3.1. Ephesus – left their rst love. “Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your rst love” (Revelation 2:4).2. Pergamos – accepted fornication and adultery. “But I have a few things against you because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacriced to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus, you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate” (Revelation 2:14–15).3. Thyatira – accepted false teaching to accept fornication. “Nevertheless, I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacriced to idols” (Revelation 2:20).4. Sardis – hypocritical. “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead”’” (Revelation 3:1).5. Laodicea – neither cold nor hot. “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and nei-ther cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:15–16).God would rather us be a 0 or a 10 instead of lukewarm. Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!’ Then His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up’” (John 2:16–17). Jesus was not lukewarm!1. Stop wasting time. “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be lled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:15–18).2. Read your Bible every day. “But He answered and said, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”’” (Matthew 4:4). Know it in your head. Stow it in your heart. Show it on your face. Sow it in the world. 4. Quit hanging out with the wrong crowd. “And have no fellowship with the unfruit-ful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret” (Ephesians 5:11–12). See also 1 John 1:7. 5. Release the tithe of your increase to God. “But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone” (Luke 11:42). 6. Attend a qualied church regularly. “Then, the same day at evening, being the rst day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you’” (John 20:19). See also Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2; and Hebrews 10:24–25. 7. Get rid of all sin and unnecessary weights. “Therefore, we also, since we are sur-rounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set be-fore us” (Hebrews 12:1). 8. Keep your eyes on Jesus. “Looking unto Jesus, the author and nisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). 9. Trust Jesus for guidance. “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:6). 10. Witness to everyone you can. “Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be lled’” (Luke 14:23).

RE•PRODUCEHow to Overcome ObjectionsLESSON6LESSON INTRODUCTIONWhen we share the gospel, we will meet objections. Even Jesus met with objections from various types of people—the religious leaders, friends, the common man, even His own family members. But Jesus knew how to handle objections. In this lesson, we will look at the steps necessary to overcome objections from others.SCAN FOR VIDEONothingButTheTruth.org/reproduce6KEY VERSE“Perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18KEY THOUGHTLove enables us to share our spirit with others.

Page 152

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 142RE•PRODUCE1. Overcome the causes of fear.a. Lack of preparation.b. Self-consciousness.c. Not knowing how they will react.d. Lack of love as the motive. “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love” (1 John 4:17–18). When love is your motive, there is no fear at all. 2. Understanding personhood. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you com-pletely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Your spirit is the real you. Your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. The third part of you is your body. 3. The goal is to reach one’s spirit. When you reach out to help another person, you want to reach their spirit with your spirit and the Holy Spirit. 4. Recognize objections as defense mechanisms. The objections or defenses they raise are not showing the real sincere objections. You have to learn how to go around these objections and talk to the real person. 5. Learn to avoid objections. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a work-er who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. And their message will spread like cancer” (2 Timothy 2:15–17). 6. Learn to avoid opponent structures. “But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:23–26). See also Proverbs 13:10; 20:3.

Page 153

RE•PRODUCE PAGE 143How to Overcome Objections 7. Develop a “togetherness” structure. “He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him” (Proverbs 18:13). 8. Lessen the objection by listening . 9. Convert the objection into a question so that you are both on the same side look-ing objectively at a question. See an example in Matthew 22:41; 21:24. 10. Use the testimonies of others (the cushion eect). “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7). “This He established in Joseph as a testimony, when He went through-out the land of Egypt, where I heard a language I did not understand” (Psalm 81:5). See also Psalm 119:14, 24. 11. Stay gracious and never lose your temper. “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edication, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:29–32). 12. Look past the objections to the real issues which are usually moral. “The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. His delight is in the fear of the LORD, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor de-cide by the hearing of His ears” (Isaiah 11:2–3). 13. Use today’s objections to help you tomorrow. “It is good for me that I have been aicted, that I may learn Your statutes. The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver” (Psalm 119:71–72). 14. Allow God’s Spirit to lead and guide you. “For the LORD God will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced; therefore I have set My face like a int, and I know that I will not be ashamed” (Isaiah 50:7). See also John 16:13.

In addition, Jesus is a life manager who never quits, and never gives up on you no matter what.
