I’ve never been a good cook. I WANT to be, but I’m just not. I’ve certainly seen my fairshare of cooking shows, and I’ll admit that Gordon Ramsay is a guilty pleasure of mine. Hewould most definitely chew me out if he tasted any of my food. The thing that’s most frustrating is that I know how to cook. I know what flavors gotogether. I know how the techniques should be performed. It’s just that my execution ispoor. And, as I get older, it seems to be getting worse. At the end of a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is cook. I’m not above fast foodor frozen food, but I feel guilty when I eat it. All I want is good food that’s not tooexpensive, easy to make, with minimal prep, short cooking time, and simple clean-up. Isthat too much to ask?? I think maybe.Enter the library.I was at the front desk the other day, and somebody returned a book with a picture of somekind of baked meatball dish on the cover. It looked delicious! I opened the book and flippedto three different pages. All three recipes on those pages looked good. The instructionswere uncomplicated, and the ingredients were accessible. I selected three things to makethe next week, and one of them (yes, only one) actually turned out okay! So, I’m trying to mix it up a bit. I’m trying to find that magic cookbook that seems tailoredjust to me, and we have quite a collection of cookbooks for me to make my way through. It’s like a little project, and I’m a sort of excited about it…for now. But, let’s be honest. Inabout two months, I’ll probably be right back there in the Arby’s drive-thru.Lynn HobbsLibrary DirectorLynn HobbsFROM THE DIRECTOR
