Lynn HobbsLibrary DirectorFROM THE DIRECTOR2We received an award! …Yes, you read that right—an actual, bona fide award. InDecember, the South Madison Community Schools presented the PendletonCommunity Public Library with their Community Partnership Award. And wecouldn't be more thrilled! As the Director here for nearly 20 years, I've had the privilege of working withmany wonderful partners. But perhaps the most natural and rewarding partnershipwas forged just this past year when Margo Cromer approached me about a year-long collaborative reading project. After all, what's the first place you think ofwhen you think of books and reading? The library, of course! Before I knew it, we were holding regular planning meetings for the year-longreading program called Arabian Readers. Margo assembled a genuine Dream Teamof teachers, and with the support of school administrators, we were off and running.Within weeks, we had a solid plan in place: ideas for incentivizing and celebratingreading, and funding thanks to the South Madison Community Foundation. BySeptember, I found myself holding hands with Pete the Cat, walking into the EastElementary gymnasium to cheers so deafening, you’d think I was walking in withTaylor Swift. At the library, we're always trying new things. But no matter what our next big ideais, one thing remains constant: We are all about reading. We will always be aboutreading. We will never grow tired of sharing the love of reading with all of ourpatrons, no matter their age. Read for enjoyment. Read for life.
