I know we are all excited about the total solar eclipse on April 8th, but I’m honestly a littlenervous about it. I’m not nervous about the traffic or burning my eyeballs out of their sockets(because I have eclipse glasses). No, I’m afraid my dog might implode. And yes, you read thatright.I have a 10 year-old German Shepherd mix named Val. She’s the sweetest thing. I mean, really. She’s good on walks. She’s friendly to other dogs. She’s a dream when we have company over. But, she hates the moon. Like actually despises it. She particularly doesn’t like it when you cansee the moon in the daytime. She barks and hops around on her hind legs. She runs around incircles and goes from room to room whining. It’s a problem, and I don’t know how to fix it. Shortly after 3 p.m., on April 8th, the moon will be visible in daylight, and will actually pass infront of the sun. We will be cloaked in darkness in the middle of the afternoon. And my dog’shead is gonna pop off. My friends have suggested ThunderShirts, essential oils, and CBD. I appreciate the suggestions, but I’m not sure. Val needs something stronger, like general anesthesia. If my friends couldactually witness her behavior with a regular moon, I think they might realize that we’re in awhole different league here. A tight dog shirt and a whiff of lavender isn’t going to cut it. But, this is out of my control, so I have to roll with it. I promise I will try to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event, despite the anxiety I have about my sweet pup. Maybe the eclipse will be atransformational experience for her, eliminating her “moon thing” altogether. I can only hope. Enjoy the eclipse this month, and be safe!Lynn HobbsLibrary DirectorValLibrary PupFROM THE DIRECTORCLOSURE THIS MONTHThe library will be closed on Monday, April 8thdue to the Total Solar Eclipse.
