The Power of a Simple Share Nazareth Can anything good come from there Nathanael asked Come and see said Philip John 1 46 Then leaving her water jar the woman went back to the town and said to the people Come see a man who told me everything I ever did Could this be the Messiah They came out of the town and made their way toward him John 4 28 30 As we think about inviting people to take a step closer to Jesus consider the power of a simple share You don t have to explain everything there is to know about faith Simply say come and see what you ve found valuable and helpful We share things all the time When we find a product we like we say come and see as we tell people about it When we find a movie or a book we enjoy we share the news with people we think might be interested Why is it so hard then to share our faith I think it s because we don t think small enough For instance when I share news about a book I ve enjoyed I m not trying to convert people into being a reader I m simply telling them about a particular book Also I ve paid attention to who in my circles is a reader and who is not Obviously I ll focus my book recommendations to people who read Further I know that some of my friends like history while some of my friends like science fiction That determines which book recommendations I share with which people When we invite people to come and see on spiritual things we similarly can be very specific Instead of thinking we have to share the fullness of the gospel it is enough to share small things that you think the other person might also find meaningful helpful or interesting This sharing is built on the foundation of the conversations you ve had with them and your knowledge of their interests and their questions

As we ve been doing our live streaming worship services I ve heard from some of you that you ve shared particular sermons with people who you thought might enjoy them Others have shared a video of a worship service with a particular song that you found meaningful These are easy things that you can use to share with other people Remember too that all truth goodness and beauty ultimately points back to God As Paul says in Philippians 4 8 Finally brothers and sisters whatever is true whatever is noble whatever is right whatever is pure whatever is lovely whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things What you share doesn t have to be explicitly Christian in order for it to have a spiritual impact Books articles music great art share these things with other people and trust that the Holy Spirit will make a difference through what you share If nothing else the sharing demonstrates to the other person that you care enough about them to be thinking of them That in of itself is a great witness that the Holy Spirit may use So this week be thinking about what truth goodness and beauty you re encountering and who you will invite to come and see
