Council Children Youth and Family Ministries This year we are welcoming 6 new council members We re so thankful to this wonderful group of people for their willingness to serve our congregation as elected council members You can read more about each of them below Lake Park has faith formation and programming for children and youth of all ages Matt Severt Council President Matt is originally from Marathon WI He moved to Milwaukee for about 15 years and now lives in Downtown Waukesha with his husband Jason Olson Matt works from home for Kelly in their Outsourcing and Consulting business and is also an avid photographer Matt has been involved with MICAH RIC and Church Council Scott Norris Scott Norris and his family have been going to Lake Park on and off for 7 years or so and have been members since 2018 Scott is a 3D animator motion graphics artist photographer He is married to Jen and is daddy to Sam Ash Lettow Ash Lettow is an architect with Workshop Architects and has been a member of Lake Park since 2013 He and his wife Jasmine have two cats enjoy film and travel Jeri Vatne Jeri says that she is glad to have this opportunity to serve Lake Park on Council Jeri manages a small non profit and is self employed as a hairdresser She also clearly is a fan of the hyphen Ava Hayes My name is Ava Hayes and I am a freshman in high school I am a basketball and soccer player and am involved in theater arts productions I am excited to be on the Church Council because I love sharing my opinions and helping to make decisions Chad Chad Afdahl works at Robert W Baird Co Incorporated He lives with his wife Kristy and three children in Whitefish Bay Outside of work he enjoys coaching hockey Electronic Giving You may have noticed our new Electronic Giving forms in the pews The goal is to promote a sense of participation for everyone in the Offering as an act of worship Additionally on the back we have listed 3 easy ways to give electronically for anyone who is interested Stepping Stones Sunday School age 3 and under Stepping Stones is a Sunday School program designed especially to meet the unique needs of our preschool children Children gather for circle time where they hear Bible stories learn songs practice praying together and engage in free play New kids and parents are always welcome Godly Play Sunday School 4K 5th grade Godly Play is a Montessori based Sunday School curriculum which engages children in the stories of the Bible through story telling and play Godly Play takes place from 9 00 10 00am on Sundays New children are always welcome in this classroom Middle School Summer Trip The Middle School trip is 2 3 day immersion and service trip This year our Middle Schoolers will be heading to Madison WI We ll be staying at a church in the city visiting the state capitol and and serving at some local nonprofits Registration forms will be made available this month High School Summer Trip July 5 10th The High School trip is a week long immersion and service trip This summer we re heading to Memphis TN We ll be staying at local churches learning about civil rights history and serving with local organizations Registration forms will be made available this month Vacation Bible Camp June 15 19th Vacation Bible Camp is a week long half day camp program for children ages 3 11 We re thrilled to once again be partnering with our friends at All Peoples Church and Saint Mark s Episcopal Church This year our theme is Living Waters and we ll spend our week hearing Bible stories singing playing games creating art learning about water justice and deepening our relationship with our partners Middle and High Schoolers invited to serve as counselors Lutherdale Bible Camp Summer Camp gives kids the opportunity to make new friends be themselves and think about questions of identity and faith in a welcoming loving and tech free environment Plus Lake Park offers 100 scholarships Register your kids on Lutherdale s website for any week of camp The official Lake Park Lutherdale week is June 21 26th Page 6 Page 3

Worship Ministry Updates Lent 2020 Walk with Me Journeying with our partners toward Racial Justice Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and those powerful words remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return We ll gather Wednesday Nights and Sunday mornings to journey all the way to Resurrection on Easter This year at Lake Park we will focus on journeying together Each week we will welcome vibrant ministries from our partners throughout the city Whenever we walk we never walk alone Wednesday Midweek Worship and Meal 6 7pm in the Mary Martha Room Chapel Feb 26th Ash Wednesday noon and 7pm chapel and main sanctuary March 4th 6 7 pm Lenten Worship and Meal March 11th 6 7 pm Lenten Worship and Meal with guest Pr Marilyn Miller of MICAH March 18th 6 7 pm Lenten Worship and Meal with guest Venice Williams and The Table and Alice s Garden Holy Communion Instruction Have your kids been wondering about communion Do they reach out their hands when the bread comes by Have they been taking communion for years but want to know more Children of all ages are invited to a Holy Communion Instruction class Whether your child has been receiving communion for a while or is just starting to be curious about communion this class is a great way for children to explore the mystery of communion at an age appropriate level We ll start by sharing a meal together in the Mary Martha room and then children will hear a story taste communion bread and explore the meaning of communion with Pastor Alissa in the sanctuary EcoJustice Refresh Come Join Us For Brunch and Brainstorming Concerned about the environment climate instability and building healthy communities Wondering what role you can play in addressing these issues and how being part of a faith community can help you in these efforts Come join us for an EcoJustice Team refresher brunch at 11 30 AM on Sunday April 26th to help revitalize our efforts around environmental justice issues This year we will be focusing on exploring opportunities in three broad areas of environmental advocacy Climate Action on a local national or global level Personal Action and Church wide Action The brunch meeting is a chance to gather ideas on what may be areas of strong shared interest in each of the categories above and develop a next steps plan moving forward To get you thinking about potential opportunities here are a few online resources to take a look at GreenFaith greenfaith org and Lutherans Restoring Creation https lutheransrestoringcreation org Come ready to share ideas and resources meet new people and to get energized around faith based action on environmental issues If you have a particular interest in or passion around any of the areas above and would like to be part of the planning process for the restaurant to celebrate St Patrick s Day All are always welcome bring a friend Women s Retreat We had a wonderful retreat with 16 people from Lake Park Our theme was Unplug and Recharge Connecting to ourselves each other and God We spent the weekend praying reflecting talking about scripture and enjoying the beauty of creation We also enjoyed laughing a lot and eating great food Thanks to the planning team who put on a great retreat River Cleanup Event for Eco Justice Get outdoors and enjoy walking along a river during Milwaukee Riverkeeper s annual river cleanup event Saturday April 18 2020 Riverkeeper typically has 4 000 volunteers across the Milwaukee River Basin at 65 locations to help us achieve drinkable swimmable fishable rivers www milwaukeeriverkeeper org Believe it or not it is enjoyable to collect garbage You may encounter some bizarre finds Gloves and bags are provided or you can bring your own gloves There is even a photo contest this year Lake Parkers will meet 9 00 a m 12 00 p m in Kern Park 3614 N Humboldt Blvd Gather at the tree line of the bluff on the river Bring your family Kids typically love this activity Contact Terri Lowder tlowder wi rr com if you are interested in participating Polishing Party Our communion ware and candles need a little love and elbow grease Join us for a polishing party on Saturday March 28th from 9 11 30a All are welcome Kids and families are especially welcome to enjoy this fun tradition together Please let Seth or Pastor Alissa know if you can attend and we ll have some champagne for the adults and nibbles for all 2020 Men s Retreat We re Going to the Cabin Men You ve heard about all the youth retreats at the Dragseth Cabin for years Now it is time to do an adult trip up north Join us April 17 19th for this year s Retreat We ll drive the long drive to the cabin but when we get there we ll have sauna cool lake hiking and a full TWO DAYS for adventure No cost for the trip pay for gas and carpool We ll plan on Food and Carpooling Plan to arrive Friday Evening for Dinner I ll be up there earlier if you d like to take Friday off The retreat ends Sunday afternoon Look for more information to come and driving directions Get ready for a full Retreat This Year here at Lake Park we understand gender is fluid Everyone is welcome Guys Night Out Fire and Ice Wednesday March 4th 7 30 9 00pm Come to Lenten
