OKLAHOMA AND BEYOND: SELECTIONS FROM THE GEORGE R. KRAVIS II COLLECTIONFeb. 28, 2017 – July 8, 2017 | Reception: March 2, 2017Including more than 40 works, this exhibition looks at pri-vate art collecting through history and the eyes of Tulsa col-lector George R. Kravis II. While Kravis’s design collection is nationally renowned, his fine art collection has rarely been exhibited. THE ART OF ASIAN LANGUAGESApril 4, 2017 – June 10, 2017 | Reception: April 4, 2017This exhibition explores intersections of art and language in East Asian culture through contemporary Asian art. Examples include both Asian characters, which are image based, with the Western alphabet, whose letters signify sounds. Representing a variety of styles, media, and presentation modes, the art-works demonstrate the fluid boundaries between written language and art. The works further respond to recent changes in Asian politics and social environments as well as conveying the complex cultural heritage. KIKI SMITH AND PAPER: THE BODY, THE MUSE, AND THE SPIRITAug. 8, 2017 – Nov. 25, 2017 | Reception: Oct. 17, 2017The third in our New York Project, a series of exhibitions bringing the work of major New York artists to Oklahoma, Kiki Smith: Paper Trails will present a selection of the art-ists’ drawings and prints, accented with sculpture from var-ious periods. Heralded as one of the most distinctive voices of her generation, Smith has been preoccupied with consider-ing the female figure from every possible perspective – physi-cally, culturally, historically, and personally. ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG’S WORLDJan. 31 – June 10, 2017Robert Rauschenberg’s World introduces two major paint-ings by Robert Rauschenberg (1925 – 2008) recently loaned to the OSU Museum of Art. One of the most influential art-ists of the second half of the twentieth century, Rauschenberg used radical mixtures of methods with traditional art mate-rials and found objects to create collage-like compositions drawn from mass media and popular culture.These two large-scale paintings mark another period of inno-vation.
