Husband-and-wife team Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland founded Ooni in 2012. Kristian had recently discovered a passion for making pizza in his domestic oven. His pizzas were good, but not great. They lacked that ame-cooked taste and the crisp, charred base that comes from baking a pizza very quickly at a high temperature. Their kitchen oven just wasn’t cutting it, but traditional outdoor ovens were bulky, obscenely expensive and often permanent — none of which were ideal for a young family renting an apartment.So Kristian got to work. After lots of prototyping and testing, he created the world’s rst portable wood pellet-fueled pizza oven. That rst oven reached 500°C in just 10 minutes, resulting in the crispy-on-the-outside, uffy-on-the-inside crust that denes truly great pizza. The launch of the rst Ooni pizza oven revolutionized the outdoor cooking landscape and created an entirely new cookware category. Now, we’re on a mission to help as many people as possible master the art of making pizza.Ooni has grown into a multi-award-winning, family-run business based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
