Juls (Julian) is an 11 grade student in our school and a newmember of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS). His artworkshave appeared in our school’s Art Showcase held on January 30,2025 and was a featured artist on the November 2024, TheSensible Yeti magazine.thWhat do you do forleisure?“I spend my free time reading, drawing, and playing guitar.Activities that help me drift offinto my imagination tend to bethe most therapeutic. Creatingthings I'm proud of overwhelmsme with ambition andconfidence, so drawing anddabbling in music are myfavorite pass times.”What makes you motivated inschool?“Whenever I'm not feeling particularlymotivated, I think about the future. Thethought of graduating High-School andbeginning a fresh era in my life excites andmotivates me. I can't wait to see who I becomeas an adult, and whoever they are they'll beeffected by the decisions I make today. Whenmy 30th birthday comes I don't want anyregrets looming over my head. That’s all themotivation I need.”How do you maintain your goodgrades?“For me, a big part of maintaining steadygrades is actually maintaining my mentalhealth. For example, If a lesson is due and itfeels particularly daunting, I take a stepback and go do something else. For me,listening to music helps me gather mythoughts and emotions so I can approachthat lesson confidently & optimistically. Inaddition, personal things like a balanceddiet and a consistent workout/sleepschedule do wonders for my mental health.I've realized, as long as I feel good aboutmyself, schoolwork feels less like a chorethat I have to do and more like an activitythat I want to do.”What other skills and interests do you like to share toinspire your peers?“I'm interested in the field of animation, and I'd like to work with ananimation studio someday. When I can create things with my own twohands it grants me this sense of fulfillment that nothing else does. If Iwield the power of creation, I can produce anything I desire, and to methat's the best part of animation. Infinite possibilities, not held back bythe shackles of reality.”MOTIVATIONInfluencerInfluencer“Someday, ifsomething of mycreation can positivelyimpact people, thefootprint I'll leave onthis Earth will be oneof pride andaccomplishment.”Layout by: Bunny WilliamsLayout by: Bunny WilliamsJul’s PFP (Profile Picture) artNovember 2024mag feature

But when the length ofone of the strings was halved, the strings nowhad different pitches, but the sound wasconsonant instead of dissonant. TEACHERSTORIESMr. Hawkins’s Harmonies:Continued...Classroom Crescendos: From the moment I first heardsomeone play the piano as a child,I was captivated and knew I had tolearn. But without a piano of myown, it seemed like an impossibledream—until a kind neighbor lentme a small keyboard when I was11. She showed me a song thatrequired playing different partswith both hands, and it feltoverwhelming. I nearly gave upcountless times, but I practicedrelentlessly for months. Life got busy, and for a while, Istopped playing. Then one day atthe mall, I heard mesmerizingmusic performed by Dax Johnson.Dax was a neo-classical pianistwho never had lessons and didn’tread music, yet played withunique and inspiring brilliance.Beyond his obvious talent, he wasevolving the music with his '4thpedal' plucking strings andmuting others with a block! Agenius. I saw him perform a fewmore times and each time wetalked he would go out of his wayto ask me about my music, mypassion and then encourage meto keep playing! Imagine meetingan artist you really look up to andthey spend all their time askingabout you and encouraging you!He was a beautiful soul. I took hiswords to heart and beganpushing myself to practice moreconsistently and tackle piecesthat once felt out of reach.Mr. HawkinsIf you’re just starting outplaying an instrumentor maybe you’ve playedon and off for years andat times feel frustrated, don’t give up! Pleasetake a moment to searchand listen to some ofDax Johnson's music andwhile listening, I hopeyou feel inspired. So,keep playing, keeplearning, and mostimportantly, play for thelove of it!HS Student Success Specialist/Graduation Committee Lead / SocialStudies Department ChairI wish I could have continuedlearning the fundamentals, but wemoved, and it wasn’t until yearslater that I could save up from asummer job to buy a full-sizedkeyboard and start playing again. In high school, a friend asked meto learn Moonlight Sonata (1st Mvt)by Beethoven. But, I couldn’t readmusic and couldn’t afford lessons.Determined, I tried to teachmyself, painstakingly workingthrough library books (Oh, how Iwish YouTube had existed backthen!). Even today, music notationstill sometimes feels like decodinghieroglyphics.
