Welcome to Covenant-First Presbyterian Church Whether you attend Covenant-First Presbyterian Church on a regular basis or are here for the first time, we are glad you are here. Covenant-First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1790, and has been a part of downtown Cincinnati ever since. Our almost 2,000 pound tower bell is from the Paul Revere Foundry in Boston, and first rang from the steeple of one of our earliest buildings. This building was completed in 1875, and the Austin Pipe Organ dates to 1915, with its approximately 3,500 pipes. We have traditional worship with Bible-based preaching each week. Our music program is enhanced by our Music Scholar program and we are excited to have them lead in worship most Sundays. If you need help with directions to restrooms, the fellowship hall, or to the lower level nursery, the person who greeted you this morning will be glad to help you. Children and worship We delight in children, and your children are always welcome to stay with you in worship. However, if you would prefer nursery care for your infants and toddlers, we do have a professionally staffed nursery in the lower level. We invite children ages 2 years to 5 years to participate in Junior Church. If your child wants to participate in Junior Church, you may escort them to the lower level during the singing of the Doxology. You may then pick your child up following the service from the downstairs classrooms. Validated Parking Validated parking is available in the 222 W 7th St. Garage. Validation is done using your car’s license plate number. Please locate a greeter to compete the validation process which requires your license plate number. Fellowship Time After worship, we invite you to gather with us in Metzger Hall for a reception featuring coffee, treats, and encouraging conversation. Many of us travel from a distance to join together in worship on Sunday morn-ings, and we find this weekly fellowship time to be a valuable and enriching time for us to catch up and meet new people. Please join us! About us If you are interested in learning more about Covenant-First Presbyterian Church, see your morning greeter, help yourself to any of the literature located on the back tables, contact the church office at 513-621-4144, or visit our website at covfirstchurch.org.

Pre-Service Music Symphony Gothique Op. 70 Charles-Marie Widor Christie Lee, Organ Scholar II. Andante sostenuto Concerns of the Congregation Call to Worship Zach Burnham One: Come, chosen people, living stones in God’s temple; let us draw near to Christ our cornerstone, in whom the Spirit dwells among us. Prelude Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, Op.79b Max Reger Christie Lee, Organ Scholar Ringing of the Revere Tower Bell Let the ringing of the bell call our attention away from ourselves and onto the living Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. *Hymn #11 A Might Fortress Is Our God *Invocation Zach Burnham One: Holy Father, by your word and Spirit gather us into the fellowship of your Son. Shape us as your dwelling, alive to holiness and love. *Prayer of Confession Rev. Dr. Dan Turis All: Merciful Lord, we confess that we have fractured the unity you purchased with your blood. We have favored ourselves above your body, resisted correction, and doubted your Spirit’s work. Forgive us, restore our communion in truth and grace, and build us again upon Christ our cornerstone. *Moments of Silent Confession *Assurance of Pardon One: Hear the promise of the gospel: You are no longer strangers, but citizens with the saints and members of God’s household. In Christ, your sins are forgiven, your divisions healed, and your life secured. One Lord, one faith, one baptism—one hope of resurrection and glory. Therefore, rejoice, for Christ himself is your peace. Amen. *Gloria Patri #575 Glory Be to the Father Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Anthem Holy God We Praise Your Name Arr. Larry Shackley Covenant Choir; Eric Lechliter, Trumpet Holy God, we praise your name, Lord of all, we bow before you; All on earth your scepter claim, all in heaven above adore you; Infinite your vast domain, everlasting is your reign. Praise to the Lord, to the Lord of hosts! Hark! The glad celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising; cherubim and seraphim in unceasing chorus praising. Hallelujah! Holy, holy, holy Lord! Praise to the Lord, to the Lord of hosts! Holy, holy, holy Lord! Fill the heavens with sweet accord. Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, three we name you; though in essence only one, undivided God, we claim you, and we bow the knee before God who reigns for ever more. Holy God, we praise your name! Prayers of the People Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Call for the Offering (If you would like to give online see the back of the bulletin.) Offertory Come and Worship Arr. Patti Drennan Covenant Choir; Eric Lechliter, Trumpet O Come, worship Christ and sing! Come, Christians, join to sing Alleluia! Amen! Loud praise to Christ our king; Alleluia! Amen! Let all, with heart and voice, before his throne rejoice; praise is his gracious choice; Alleluia! Amen! Christians, will you join in worship and adore the Lord our God? Will you pray with all your power while we try to preach the word? All is vain unless the Spirit of the holy one comes down. Christians, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around. Come and love our God supremely, come and love each other, too. Come to sing and pray for sinners ‘til our God makes all things new. He is our guide and friend; to us he’ll condescend; His love will never end; Alleluia! Amen! Come, lift your hearts on high; Alleluia! Amen! Let praises fill the sky; Alleluia! Amen!

*Doxology #572 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow At this time all children are invited to go to Children’s Church Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Prayer of Dedication *Hymn Bulletin pg. 8 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation *Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly hu-man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seat-ed at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glori-fied, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resur-rection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. *Scripture Lesson Ephesians 2:19-22 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. One: This is God’s Word for God’s people. All: Thanks be to God. Sermon God of the Church Rev. Dr. Dan Turis *Hymn #200 The Church’s One Foundation
