Being a company that is committed to the professional development of our team learning more about developing resiliency and building coping skills was a natural fit for us as the learnings can be applied to both our personal and professional lives In my opinion there is a real need for our youth to learn more about developing coping skills and resiliency Being able to provide schools with the tools and resources to help build these skills is a really positive step If we live within our comfort zone our comfort zone will eventually shrink This was a great reminder that we need to continually challenge ourselves and work on building our umbrella every day Bay of Quinte Mutual believes in and supports the goals of The Umbrella Project Sadly in our area we have experienced an increase in young people harming themselves We are confident this partnership with The Umbrella Project will result in our teachers and young people learning the skills needed to meet and conquer today s life challenges Tammy Hickling Vice President Insurance Operations Howick Mutual Our entire team benefited tremendously both personally and professionally from the Umbrella Project professional development day The tools and insights gained were profoundly valuable for their impact on our team s self awareness empathy for others The Umbrella Project team helped us build a better shared understanding of how important it is to prioritize recovery and self care to achieve sustained wellbeing both at work and home We felt the positive impact of this session right away and know it will be a tool we will continue to use reaping even more benefits as we reinforce this learning and adopt a peoplecentred culture of innovation Jeffrey Howell Chief Executive Officer Bay of Quinte Mutual The resiliency training provided by the Umbrella Project engaged staff in a way that provided rejuvenation and selfawareness in understanding the strengths and weaknesses found in everyone s individual resiliency umbrella Interesting that when all our umbrellas were positioned together it highlighted strengths and weaknesses throughout the organization but more importantly we had a full umbrella to be resilient together when it s needed most Staff were inspired by the work and some went home to discuss it with their own children only to learn that their schools had implemented the resiliency training and together they totally connected with a family discussion Kuusta Laird Barry Human Resources Halwell Mutual Social media is an outlet for many teens to get their feelings out to the public creating many positives and negatives With its wide reach and instant messaging features it has helped to create addiction and cyber bullying with resultant pressure on society and the vulnerable in particular As an organization and members of society in general we all have a role to play in helping to create a more positive message for the younger generation through education on how to cope with the fallout Jeff Whiting Chief Executive Officer Ayr Farmers Mutual Carlos Rodrigues Chief Executive Officer Edge Mutual
