What have we been up to?Development ProjectsCreative Writing with Eve McDonnellChildren’s author, Eve McDonnell, has facilitated a series offun and interactive workshops with students from CrinkillNS, Daingean NS and Scoil Bhríde Clara.The children explored fantastic fun facts about how ourmemories work before the children scribbled down someof their best and oldest memories. These memoires wereshaped into short-stories, poems and art, and the childrenalso designed a collective ‘wishprint’ of new memories yetto be made.Film-Making Workshops with Burning House FilmProductionsAward-winning Burning House Productions brought theirunique film-making workshops to schools in Co. Offaly Transition Year Students from St. Brendan’s SecondarySchool Birr, Sacred Heart School Tullamore, KillinaPresentation Secondary School and Oaklands CommunityCollege Edenderry participated in workshops in the weeksleading up to Cruinniú na nÓg. Students have learned how to use professional filmmakingequipment and will devise scenes, act, direct and shoottheir own short films.The poems, stories and illustrations created by the children will be collated into astunning booklet to celebrated Cruinniú na nÓg, with each child receiving their owncopy. A memorable day creating a treasure for the future.The classes also gained experience in cinematography, script writing, acting, directing,lighting and learned how to use smartphone filmmaking equipment as well asprofessional filmmaking equipment. Circus Explorer Taster Workshops with Irish StreetArts, Circus & Spectacle NetworkISACS visited Gaelscoil an Eiscir Riada, Tullamore, Gaelscoilna Laochra, Birr and Gaelscoil Éadan Doire, Edenderry forCircus Explored workshops as gaeilge. The children explored a variety of basic circus skills,mastered techniques and learned to push boundaries in asafe and encouraging way. Catering for complete beginners, these workshops aim toboost confidence, balance, motor skills and bodyawareness while ensuring everyone had lots of fun andlaughter in the process. Upcycle Fashion Workshops with Oh Sew Bold “Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress” (Taylor Swift)Calling all fashion designers and Swifties alike! Suitable for teenagers, Kay Lodge from Oh Sew Boldtaught participants in Edenderry and Tullamore Librarieshow to sew their own head-turning Eras tour inspiredoutfit by upcycling old clothes. Visit your local branch to view the recording of the workshop, which will be played onreels showcasing all of our developmental projects, on Saturday 15th June.No sewing experience was necessary, those partaking simply chose their favouriteTayTay era for inspiration, cleared out the wardrobes and joined us for a fun day ofsustainable creativity!Participants of the workshop are invited to wear their masterpieces to the library forCruinniú and joined by friends, create beautiful bracelets to match! Rap and Songwriting Workshop with Rhyme IslandRhyme Island visited Offaly libraries for a full dayworkshop with students from Coláiste Choilm,Tullamore. The group learned to use rap as a tool for self-expression. During this full day workshop, they createda rap song and music video that will be showcased onCruinniú.
