October 30 2020 UNDAUNTED Avraham Avinu worried that he would not merit children to continue his legacy In response Hashem instructed him Hashem brought Avraham outside and directed him to gaze skywards and count the stars Hashem then cryptically stated that Avraham s offspring should be likewise Why did Hashem present Avraham with such an impossible task What is the meaning of Rav Meir Shapiro the founder of Daf Yomi and Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin noted that although the total count of stars are indeed finite they certainly cannot be counted with the naked eye Thus if an intelligent person would be asked to count the stars he would most likely decline this impossible task since there would be no human way to possibly complete the count Nevertheless when Hashem 5 21 PM suggested that Avraham count the stars Avraham immediately went outdoors and began counting He was undaunted by his apparent natural limitations to actually count but instead recognized the power of one s will and commitment that could spell success even in seemingly impossible situations Motzei Shabbos November 1 turn back clocks one hour Hashem responded in kind and bentched Avraham Your offspring as well should be a nation known for their dedication and commitment against all odds Friday November 6 Early Friday dismissal begins Preschool ends at 12 30 Hamilton ends at 2 20 Williston ends at 2 30 Especially during these challenging times it is critical for us as to realize that we have the ability to rise to the occasion and persevere against all odds embedded in our DNA Rabbi Ochs We have many wonderful pictures this week including literacy which is a focus in our preschool They learn to recognize Hebrew and English letters using all their senses Grade 4 girls employ hands on activities as part of their science exploration and grade 4 boys play musical chairs while doing paragraph writing 5B are building shtenders and celebrating learning 5 000 words of Torah 1st grade is such a fun exciting and transformative year The boys come into school knowing the basics in reading Loshon Kodesh and by the end of the year learn how to read with advanced fluency thanks to constant practice They learn how to write script translate words learn shoroshim prefixes and more The boys come in full of energy and excitement and are eager to keep learning new things The 1st grade girls are also reviewing reading working towards more advanced fluency They too come in full of energy and ready to learn In General Studies 1B will also focus on learning to read with fluency Comprehension skills will be taught They will also be working on writing sentences building up to writing a five sentence descriptive paragraph Neat handwriting will be a priority Phonics is a big part of first grade This helps with reading spelling and writing skills The boys work together each year to write a book with the assistance of the teacher There will be time out for some fun art projects Science and Social Studies are important in our curriculum Math is part of the classroom each day too With G d s help we will accomplish all these things and many more this year
