October 20, 2023ד״פשת ןושח ’ה חנ תשרפ STAY FOCUSED 5:37 PMDear Parents, At the end of this week’s parsha, the possuk relates: ןב ןרה ןב טול תאו ונב םרבא תא חרק חקיו םש ובשיו ןרח ואוביו ןענכ הצרא תכלל םידשכ רואמ םתא ואציו ונב םרבא תשא ותלכ ירש תאו ונב. Terach took Avram, Lot, and Sarai and left םידשכ רוא to travel to ןענכ; they arrived in ןרח and settled there. Terach set out for Canaan but ended up settling in ןרח. The Torah only records incidents that have an eternal message. What lesson do we learn from these seemingly trivial details of חרת’s travel itinerary? Why did they stop mid-journey and settle in Charan? The Chofetz Chaim notes that next week’s Parsha, Lech Lecha, has a similar possuk. After Hashem gives Avraham the command to leave his birthplace, homeland and family, the Torah emphasizes ןענכ הצרא ואביו ןענכ הצרא תכלל אציו. Unlike Terach, Avraham intended to go to Canaan, and he arrived there. The Torah emphasizes Avraham’s intention to go to Canaan, along with his actual arrival to contrast his journey with his father’s. Terach likewise was headed towards Canaan, but he lacked the necessary focus and determination to see the trip through. As soon as the going got rough, he aborted his plan and settled in Charan. Avraham, who had traveled with his father, learned what would happen if one isn’t committed and focused on achieving one’s goal. Sometimes, too much enthusiasm at the beginning of an endeavor wanes over time. Avraham stayed focused on the goal of successfully reaching Canaan by constantly recalling his mission. We all have moments in our lives when we are inspired or uplifted and driven to make changes or accomplish. Yet, with the passage of time, the enthusiasm ebbs, and we are left like Terach, without achieving our goals. We should learn from Avraham to stay focused on the goal, and Hashem will bentch us with success. תבש טוג! Each grade was divided up into chavrusas and learned bais midrash-style as a zechus for acheinu in Eretz Yisroel.● Monday afternoon, the middle school joined at the Rebbe’s following mincha for a very beautiful atzeres tefilah. The whole khal recited tehillim and said acheinu. The Bostoner Rebbe, Shlita then spoke quoting a vort that his father, Reb Levi Yitzchok Horowitz, ZT’L used to say in the name of R’ Ahron Belzer. Acheinu is a tefilah that doesn’t begin with the words “yehi ratzon.” The reason for this is because when Klal Yisroel is united we don’t need to request yehi ratzon that our tefillos should ascend to shomayim. Such tefillos go up automatically! The whole khal then sang acheinu together. It was really a beautiful asifa! Thank you to Rabbi Ochs and The Rebbe, Shlita for making it happen, and thank you to all the Rebbeim.● Ms. Leff and 3B made a very meaningful bulletin board in their classroom. The title of the board is “What Can We Do?/” The boys wrote down kabbalos that they chose to take on as a merit for the Israeli soldiers to return safely. The children wrote their kabbalah down on a paper with a picture of a helicopter that they were able to color in. The things they wrote were so caring and heartwarming. Please see pictures further in the bulletin.● 7B went to learn b’chevrusa with the second graders on Monday. See pictures further in the bulletin.● The boys running for TA’s first student council, made their speeches last week and the students at the Williston building is casting their votes today! Stay tuned for the results!● 6G was chosen to decorate the bulletin board outside the office for this chodesh. Not only did they work together with beautiful achdus to create a gorgeous masterpiece, but they learned on the job as well. They now know the "3 keys" that remain only in Hashem's hands: The key of life, the key of rain and the key of 'Techiyas Hameisim'.● On Monday Rosh Chodesh, grades 1-4 boys said Hallel together and said a Kapital of Tehillim together for Eretz Yisroel.● Grades 1-8 girls gathered together for a Rosh Chodesh brunch in honor of Rosh Chodesh Cheshvon. The girls recited a perek of tehillim for the safety of Eretz Yisroel. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Hedvat for sponsoring the brunch.Thank you Mrs. Sternfield and the 8th grade for all the arrangements.● This week 4B started working with Lego Spike Robotics kits to add to their knowledge of simple machines and to bring in coding as well. Students are working in groups of 1-5 to build robots and program them to carry out different tasks● Rabbi Sheller, a representative of the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation paid us a special visit and shared two exciting stories with us.Each story focused on a middah that is important to incorporate in our lives. One charged us with recognizing that each one of us has something important to contribute to the group and the other on how much we can accomplish if we really want. Rabbi Sheller is an extremely talented storyteller who is able to totally engage his audience.● Our erev Shabbos get together for 1-8G focused on the kedusha of Shabbos. We agreed to each take on a kabbala that would enhance its kedusha for us personally and provide a zechus for Eretz Yisroel. The girls will anonymously contribute their kabbalah which will be posted on a shmiras Shabbos bulletin board.● Many of our girls are writing letters to the chayalim in Eretz Yisroel in conjunction with a Torah Umesorah initiative.● 6G and 1G enjoyed reading together! In a joint class activity, each 6th grade girl partnered with a first grade girl and read a book to her. Then they created a mini book, outlining the order of events of the book they read and illustrating it together.
