October 15 2021 PRUDENT 5 44 PM Dear Parents The Parsha reads Avrom went up from Egypt and he proceeded on his journeys Rashi comments that when Avraham returned from Mitzrayim to Cana an he stayed at the same lodgings he had patronized on his way down to His actions were based on a in a person should not change his lodgings The Maharal explains this injunction as a method of avoiding the conclusion that the person was dissatisfied with his accommodations or that the proprietor does not wish to host the traveler again Rav Pam writes that there is a deeper lesson we can learn from this which is of great practical significance On his way down to Mitzrayim Avraham was not rich Hashem s promise to make him wealthy had not yet been fulfilled We can probably assume that Avraham prudently stayed at inexpensive accommodations to conserve his limited funds On his return journey however Avraham was extremely wealthy as described by the possuk He was now able to afford to stop at the most luxurious lodging houses befitting his new financial status Yet he didn t change his lifestyle Avraham understood that bentched him with wealth for the purpose of furthering not for his personal comfort This Sunday October 17 Torah Academy first Hachnasas Sefer Torah Parade at 4 00pm There are so many valuable lessons to learn from this idea Firstly to live within one s means and to raise ones children with the values of prudence Secondly when someone is bentched with greater means he should still avoid the ostentatious and make sure to use his extra for Avodas Hashem Rabbi Ochs Last week for Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan boys in grades 1 through 4 davened and recited Hallel together Each day the boys were treated to a special story by a rebbe Thank you Rabbi Sebbag and Rabbi Bork for your exciting and inspiring stories This week the kinderlach who participated in the kriah challenge were treated to a pizza lunch The boys had a raffle for a drone camera prize The winner was Eliyahu Faibish The girls raffle winner for the Israel Book Shop gift certificate was Shayna Frager Students in grades 1 8 participated this week in our triannual Aimsweb testing This is an important tool we use to gauge performance of our students The girls in grade 6 with guidance of their morah created the Chodesh Cheshvan bulletin board that graces the hall in the Hamilton building Thank you Mrs Reifman
