October 13, 2023ג״פשת ירשת ח’’כ תישארב תשרפ EMULATE HASHEM 5:48 PMDear Parents, I hope everyone had a meaningful and simchadige בוט םוי. For us in Boston, we weren’t sure if we would be able to sit in the Sukkah on the first night of Sukkos, and B”H, as soon as we came home from shul, the rain stopped, and we were zoche to eat in the Sukkah and be םייקמ the אתיירואד הוצמ. Unfortunately, at the end of Yom Tov, at the height of the simcha, we were informed of the horrible news that בקעיל איה הרצ תע, and our hearts are broken in pain for לארשי ינב וניחא. We are לועב אשונ, in sorrow and grief for those captured, those who lost their lives, and those in pain and suffering. We read in this week’s Parsha that the ע״שבר says: וניתומדכ ונמלצב םדא השענ. Rashi points out that HkbH asked his אימלפ – Let us make man in a םלצ and תומד. Rashi explains the word םלצ as shape, and תומד – the ability to understand and use our intellect. Harav Elya Brudny Shlita quoted from the הרובד רמות רפס that םלצ refers to the person’s physical aspect. However, תומד references his ורצויל המדא – which is the Halacha of תכלהו ויכרדב, following in the footsteps of the ע״שבר and emulating his ways. םוחר והמ – just like He is merciful, you must be merciful, ןונח אוה המ, just like He is gracious, you must be gracious. Only when an individual has a םלצ and a תומד does he earn the title םדא, and is he considered what we call a Mentch. What Klal Yisrael experienced this week were the barbaric and horrific acts of beings that may have had a םלצ but were lacking all semblance of תומד, and aren’t deserving of the title םדא. Our response is to be ורצויל המדתמ – to emulate Hashem, especially at this time, and be אשונ לועב to feel the pain of our brothers and sisters and to be םינמחר so we deserve the title םדא. The ע״שבר should protect Klal Yisrael and protect all those on the front lines to return safely, and He should send true םולש to השודקה ונצרא. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs●● Sun, Oct 15 - regular dismissal at 12 noon● Wed, Oct 18 - 3 PM dismissal for all students due to the faculty meeting
