| 5| 4HELPING EVERYONE FIND & FOLLOW JESUSDear Friend,For nearly 70 years of ministry, God has blessed and worked through the people of Okolona Christian Church, resulting in thousands and thousands of people giving their lives to Christ. We are at the start of a dening season at OCC. The gospel compels us to many things, and one of the most important is radical generosity. Just as Christ poured out His generosity for us on the cross, we are to pour out our lives as an offering to Him and to others. As God continues to bring opportunities for growth to us as a church, He also brings opportunities for growth to us as individuals. We do not want to be a people who live in the safe zone, the “charted” zone. We want to be a people who live lives in the UNCHARTED - with faith beyond the horizon. Each and every one of us has a necessary part in the mission as we continue navigating more and more people to God. We invite you to join us on this UNCHARTED journey of faith. No one has ever regretted giving to God. Let’s choose to put God rst in all things— boldly trusting God in faith beyond the horizon! FitzFitz | Lead Pastor

| 14At its core Uncharted is about discipleship. Following Jesus is a transformative process that is happening day by day as we walk with him. Movement will always bring us to unfamiliar moments and places that require us to have faith. When we step forward into those places growth happens. As we are stretched and challenged, God provides what we need just when we need it. HE HAS DONE IT BEFORE AND HE WILL DO IT AGAIN. | 15In the Fall of 2019, Andrew “Fitz” Fitzgibbon was hired as the Lead Minister of Okolona Christian Church. Over the last ve years Fitz has reinvigorated OCC’s eorts to reach the lost and broken people of the world and help them grow in a personal relationship with Jesus. This is encapsulated in a fresh and simple mission statement born out of Matthew 28; Helping Everyone Find and Follow Jesus.Since the summer of 2020 we have seen signicant impact in the following key areas of our mission:SURRENDER424 people have surrendered in baptism.SERVE Over 400 people are consistently serving through various ministries and community outreach opportunities like our Kids & Student Ministries and our Pantry Ministry.GIVE323 people have started giving for the rst time.$9,273,435 dollars has been given to the General Fund.GROUP 509 people have participated in Rooted.Over 350 people are consistently in a small group.INVITE More and more people are inviting their friends and family into a relationship with Jesus through personal interaction and unique teaching series and gatherings like At the Movies, Easter and Christmas services and more.

| 21| 20UNCHARTED GIVING JOURNEYTHERE ARE FIVE STAGES IN THE UNCHARTED GIVING JOURNEY. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE?INITIAL GIVERAn Initial Giver is someone who decided to give for the rst time out of a response to God’s Word about giving. This is someone who decided to give something and trust God and the leaders of the Church with this gift.CONSISTENT GIVERA Consistent Giver is someone who decides to give something consistently to exercise the discipline of giving regularly. Often, someone who decides to make their gift an online recurring gift will be someone who is learning the behavior of consistency. Individuals who don’t give online can be consistent as well; it just requires more discipline.INTENTIONAL GIVERAn Intentional Giver is someone who begins to think about their giving in relation to other things on which they spend their money. For example, this type of giver begins asking the question, “Why am I giving more to my cell phone bill than I am giving to God?” This giver starts to make their giving an intentional choice that reects how they prioritize and spend their money. SURRENDERED GIVERA Surrendered Giver is someone who recognizes the cost Christ paid on the cross for us and is surrendered to honoring God with 100% of their resources as a result. A Surrendered Giver gives in a way that changes them. Their giving governs their spending and saving rather than the other way around.ETERNAL GIVERAn Eternal Giver is someone who thinks about the long-term eects of generosity. They see through the lens of eternity more than the just the here and now. An Eternal Giver might have a lifetime giving goal which governs their larger-ticket decisions.

His life consisted mostly of shepherding livestock for his father-in-law, Jethro. Exodus chapter three starts with the phrase, “one day Moses was tending the ock of his father-in-law…” or in other words, “it was just another day in the oce.” Yet this day would turn out much dierent from the rest. God would show up and completely change the trajectory of Moses’ life. That day, God showed up through a burning bush! The sight was so miraculous, so divine that it was undeniable to Moses that God was there. Read Acts 9:1-19Saul (Paul) is another individual who experienced a miraculous moment during his life. He was a well-educated man with a mission: destroy the new Christian movement. He had heard about Jesus, had heard about His new followers, and was determined to keep this movement from spreading. He persecuted local Christians with passion, even being present at the stoning of the rst known martyr of the Christian faith, Stephen. However, Jesus had other plans for Saul, and in an incredible moment while walking to Damascus, Paul was blinded by a light and his life would never be the same. The sight was so miraculous, so divine that it was undeniable to Saul (Paul) that God was there. 1. Sinai, but in that moment he was also given a mission of incredible signicance: lead over 4 million people out of slavery from Egypt. That is a God-sized mission for sure. In Moses’ mind, he probably interpreted God’s command as, “go back to the place where you’re wanted for murder and tell one of the most powerful earthly rulers that he needs to release all of his slaves!” For Moses to really do this, it would require full surrender to God. The scripture doesn’t record this, but it’s possible Moses had one of those “life ashing before your eyes moments” when listening to God deliver the news about this important mission He wanted Moses to complete. This mission would require complete surrender from Moses.1. Thinking of all the things Moses had to surrender, which do you think would have been the most dicult?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Read: Matthew 16:24, Luke 14: 26-27, Hebrews 12:2-3Moses wasn’t the only one God called to surrender - He calls everyone who wants to follow Him into a life of surrender. Jesus consistently reminded His disciples, and those who wanted to follow Him, that to do so would require complete surrender. Sometimes His invitation to surrender felt extreme, but ultimately, He was inviting everyone into a life-giving mission that was only possible if they surrendered everything. In fact, in the greatest act of obedience and submission in human history, Jesus Himself surrendered His life on earth in accordance with His Father’s will. He is the greatest example of surrender! The same mission God gave His disciples is a mission that translates to us today: help everyone nd and follow Him!2. As you consider surrendering everything to follow Jesus into the Uncharted over the next two years, what do you anticipate will be the most dicult thing for you to surrender? Why?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRAYER: Write a prayer thanking Jesus for HIS willingness to surrender everything for you on the cross, and ask for help to surrender the things of this world that you grip tightly.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________WEEK ONE

Protested is a pretty strong word. That seems to imply that Moses had a debate with God. He wasn’t the rst, or the last person in scripture to debate God. Moses took the time to tell God that He had the wrong person, and that he wasn’t qualied for the assignment he had been given. God responded by turning Moses’ sta into a snake (after He set a bush on re) and sent along his brother Aaron as a helper. This was a sign that God was investing in Moses and equipping him for the job he was being asked to do. No protest or excuse Moses made was acceptable to God, because just as Moses carried a sta in his hand, so too did God carry Moses in His hands!Read 1 Corinthians 12: 1-11, Ephesians 2: 1-9Not only did God invest in Moses and equip him for the mission He commanded, but Jesus also invested in His disciples. He called them out of their daily lives and set them on a course to become “shers of men.” He spent years teaching them, training them and entrusted them with parts of the mission. So, if God equipped Moses and Jesus equipped the disciples, who equips us today? You and I are equipped by the Holy Spirit to accomplish the good works God has prepared for us to do. We are given gifts by His Spirit as we live our lives. So while Moses had God the Father guiding him from the mountains, and the disciples had Jesus standing right next to them, we have the Spirit of God inside of us, shaping our thoughts and minds.1. Why? God could have snapped His ngers and freed His people, yet He chose to work through Moses to accomplish His mission. He could have simply said to His people, “be free,” and it would have been so. The creation account in Genesis conrms that God has the ability to speak things into existence. He could have simply whispered from heaven, “be free,” and His people could have walked right out of Egypt. Instead, He chose to have Moses and Aaron deliver this message on His behalf. This is not a new trend. Moses joins a list of others throughout history that God chose to work through. In Hebrews chapter 11, commonly called the Hall of Faith, you can see that God continuously chooses to work through His people to accomplish His mission. It seems to be His preferred way to work out His mission on Earth.Read Ephesians 2:1-22In writing to the church in Ephesus, Paul reminds them that Jesus didn’t just set them free so they could only be washed clean of their sin. He set them free so that they could help others experience the same freedom they now have. He instructs them that God is carrying on a rescue mission of eternal signicance, and they have a part to play in it. The same is true of us. Questions like “What if Pharaoh says no? What if Pharaoh kills me? What if the people reject me? What if I fail?” likely circulated in Moses’ mind. However, “What if?” questions can also fuel imagination and vision. It’s possible Moses’ thinking changed over time, and God changed those fearful “what if” questions into powerful visions of the future. Perhaps God changed his thinking, and Moses began to ask questions like: What if Pharoah says yes? What if Pharoah spares my life? What if the people accept me? What if I’m successful in rescuing people?Read: Romans 12: 1-2, 2 Timothy 10:5Thoughts are powerful. Some thoughts fuel imagination and passions while others create fear and anxiety. This is true for all people. In his letter to the Romans, Paul addressed the power of thoughts. These believers lived in one of the most powerful and polytheistic empires in human history, yet were committed to following Jesus. That must have created a lot of fear and anxiety. Paul encouraged them to take control of their thoughts, and let God renew their minds. He encouraged them to change their thinking, to allow not just their “hearts” to be transformed by God, but to allow their “minds” to be transformed by Him as well. In another letter, Paul would give his young protege, Timothy, similar advice. Paul’s instruction doesn’t just apply to the believers in Rome and a young leader in the early church, it applies to us today. For us, we need to allow our minds to be transformed as much as we allow our hearts or our behavior to be transformed by Christ. 1. His empire was vast and strong, but for Moses, facing that threat was unlikely his greatest fear. Remember, Moses was a defender; it’s the reason he had to leave Egypt. He defended a helpless person in Egypt, a vulnerable group of women in the desert, and ocks of livestock from predators. He didn’t seem like a man that was afraid of power. The most likely thing that threatened to hold him back was the shame he felt from his childhood: not knowing his father, being raised as an adopted son (and of dierent ethnicity than his adopted family) and then earning the reputation as a murderer. Stepping back into that environment would have been scary, and threatened to hold him back from experiencing the transformation God wanted to do in him and through him. The power of his past threatened to keep him from taking steps into the future.Read Galatians 5:1, Romans 8: 31-39, 2 Timothy 1:7Most of us are probably not that much dierent from Moses - shame is a powerful weapon Satan will use to keep us from moving forward with Jesus. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of His glory. There isn’t one person in scripture that didn’t have character aws, except for Christ. Everyone has messed up, and Satan will use those mistakes to whisper lies of unworthiness. Yet, that is not what scripture says of those who follow Jesus. He did exactly what God called him to do. He gathered his family, moved back to Egypt, and stood before Pharaoh and communicated exactly what God told him to do. And what happened? The situation for the Israeilites got even worse! Their living conditions declined, the animosity of their slave masters toward them grew, and their physical labor grew in intensity. I doubt that’s what Moses thought was going to happen. Moses likely wrestled with doubt, frustration, confusion and anger; yet Moses doesn’t stay in that state of mind. Perhaps it was the burning bush, the gift of Aaron and the transformation of a sta into a snake that lled Moses with the courage to persevere.Read Matthew 26: 31-35, 69-75, Philippians 4:6Peter was a devoted follower of Jesus. He was one of Jesus’ closest friends in life. On the night Jesus was going to be betrayed, He warned His disciples that He would die. Peter jumped up and declared he would never let that happen…never! While Jesus was probably comforted by that sentiment, He knew Peter would ultimately deny Him; and that is exactly what happened. As a follower of Jesus, it’s easy at times to feel like you’ve “taken one step forward only to take two steps back,” much like Peter must have felt in this moment of denial. It’s in those moments we must choose to take another step, and not allow setbacks to keep us from pursuing the life God wants for us. How we handle frustrations or setbacks is an important part of our maturity as a follower of Jesus. In Peter’s case, Jesus gave him an opportunity to nd forgiveness and be restored into the right relationship with Him, and as a result, Peter would preach the rst recorded sermon in Acts and over 3,000 people would be saved that day!1. Apparently, Aaron had the “gift of gab,” and God used that to help Moses. It was a powerful reminder to Moses and Aaron that although they were powerless eighty-year-old men in the world’s eyes, they were more than enough in God’s eyes. He was with them, always! When we accept Jesus, His Spirit enters our lives. The same Spirit that hovered over the waters at creation and that raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in us! That gives us the power and courage to step out in faith knowing that God is all around us. We see His evidence from the past, know He controls the future, and sense His presence within our very souls right now. He is with us, always! In fact, at the end of the Great Commission that Jesus gives His disciples, He declares, “and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age!” 1. Once the people leave, he changes his mind and begins pursuing them. This leaves Moses and the people trapped between an angry Egyptian leader and the Red Sea. Many of the people begin to cry out and want to return to Egypt and continue in their slavery. They clearly didn’t see a way through the situation. Even though they had just witnessed God send 10 plagues throughout the land and miraculously set them free from their captivity, they were still unsure of Moses and God’s plan. Ultimately, God parted the Red Sea and made a way for His people to escape to freedom. However, it took Moses’ rm standing on God’s command and His promise to set them free and keep them from eeing back into their former way of living.Read Acts 5: 17-42The Apostles faced a similar dilemma as Moses: a desire to see people set free from their sin, even as they were being pursued by powerful government leaders. As the apostles preached the Good News throughout Jerusalem, they gained the attention of men who wanted to keep this new faith in Jesus from spreading. They were jailed and ogged (and eventually killed) for their faith, but it didn’t stop them from standing with God and doing what they knew was right. Even today, there are spiritual forces working hard to keep God’s people in fear. But like Moses being backed up against the Red Sea and the Apostles cornered in a courtroom, if we stand with HIM we might just see a miracle unfold.1. But like Moses being backed up against the Red Sea and the Apostles cornered in a courtroom, if we stand with HIM we might just see a miracle unfold.1. | 40 | 41PRAYER: Write a prayer asking God for the courage to stand with Him, regardless of the season of life or the diculties you face.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DAY 5 PERSISTENCE PAYS OFFRead Joshua 1: 1-9Through the faithfulness of Moses, and after a 40-year journey in the wilderness, God brought His people to the edge of another river. After crossing this river (the Jordan River), the people would enter the land God promised to give to them. This time, however, Moses wouldn’t be crossing the river with them. Instead, another leader would emerge to lead the people through the next part of their Uncharted journey. Moses’ persistence in the face of great obstacles, whether it be plagues, battles or the waywardness of his people, had nally brought them to the place God had promised 40 years earlier. The people eventually experienced God’s promise of reaching the Promised Land, but many of these people were ancestors to the original slaves freed from Egypt. How do you feel about contributing to a mission that you may not see fullled in your lifetime?Read Romans 5: 3-5, 2 Peter 3: 9Following Jesus isn’t for the faint of heart. It requires a lifetime of investment and determination to follow Him. But for those who persevere, there is an amazing reward - an eternity with Him. Following Him isn’t easy, and if we are honest, it’s frustrating. But what other struggle in life produces the fruit that a life in Christ produces?1. What does it look like to continue with “perseverance” in the areas of our faith life, especially in the area of generosity?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________2. What could your life, your family and your other relationships look like at the end of this Uncharted season if you truly “persevere” to the end? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRAYER: Write a prayer thanking God for not giving up on you, but instead being patient and persistent with you. He took them the long way around, along a path they were unfamiliar with, to keep them from getting discouraged in battles with the local Philistines. Additionally, in their 40-year journey through the desert, the path ahead of them was often revealed one step at a time, one moment at a time, by a pillar of re at night and a cloud during the day. Nevertheless, the people followed Moses as he followed God, and eventually all the steps culminated in the inheritance of the Promised Land.John 4: 4 - 42Jesus had a way of surprising His disciples with some of His words and actions, and one of the moments that would have denitely shocked His disciples is when He took them through Samaria to meet a Samaritan woman. It’s likely they questioned, doubted, and maybe even criticized Him. His disciples would have preferred to go around Samaria, because the Jews and Samaritans did not interact. The problem was, they had limited information. They only knew a few things while Jesus knew everything! So while He led them somewhere they didn’t understand, Jesus knew all along what His plan was. For us, it often feels like we can only see a few steps ahead, unsure of what’s next, but like the Israelites in the desert and the disciples following Jesus through Samaria, we must choose to walk by faith, trusting God knows the path ahead.1. A miraculous exodus. The division of an entire sea. Walking on dry land on an ocean oor. A pillar of re at night and cloud during the day. These are just some of the things the Israelites witnessed God accomplish as they left Egypt. One would think that would speak loudly that, “God’s got this,” or at the very least remind them to keep their eyes on God to see what He would do next. However, the Israelites seemed to get distracted by each and every little thing: where they would live, what kind of food they would have, where the best drinking water was and where Moses disappeared to from time-to-time as he met with God. Forty years provides a lot of time for distractions, and yet through God’s mighty hand and Moses’ faithfulness in leadership, they stayed the course. Read Hebrews 12:2 As you previously read (Devotion from week 1, day 4), the rst section of Hebrews chapter 11 lists the people of faith from the Old Testament. At the end of this list, the writer of Hebrews gives a very insightful commentary - if we want to be people of faith like the ones on this list, we have to keep our eyes on Jesus. Jesus must be our singular focus. Keeping our hearts and minds focused on the mission can be dicult, but this verse reminds us that it’s easier than we think if we simply keep our eyes on the One we are following- Jesus!1. | 46 | 47DAY 3 DRIVING BACKWARDSRead Exodus 16: 1-3Desert living must have been tough, because early on in their journey, the Israelites declare to Moses that they would rather still be slaves in Egypt than wander the desert hungry. They would have rather been slaves with a full belly than free and wondering where their food might come from. In this moment, it seemed they gloried their past while criticizing their future. It would seem that one of Moses’ greatest challenges in leadership would be to keep the people focused on their amazing future rather than dwelling on their past. Read Acts 15: 1-21The tension of honoring the past while anticipating the future is a tension everyone feels at some point in life. In fact, this tension existed in the early church, and holding tightly to their past traditions and expectations almost destroyed them. As you read in Acts, some church leaders wanted the new believers to follow the old customs and traditions the Jewish people followed, and this created a dispute. Really, the question they were wrestling with is a similar one we wrestle with today: How do we honor the past while anticipating the future? It’s like while driving; it’s important to glance into the rearview mirror to know what is behind us, but the greatest focus of our attention should be what is in front of us.1. He is a God of action. A God of creation. A God of movement. He told Moses to “Go.” He told Moses to tell Pharaoh to “let his people GO.” He told the Israelites to “Get moving.” Moses could have simply believed God would deliver the people, but he had to “GO” in order to see it and be a part of it. The Israelites could have simply believed God would deliver them, but it required them to put their feet into action and take steps of faith toward the future God was promising them. In fact, the word Exodus means a “mass movement.”Read Matthew 28: 18-20God worked through Moses and many other people of great faith. God is still actively working today, seeking to save the lost, and here is an amazing truth: He has invited us into that mission. He commanded His disciples, and thereby us as His followers today, to GO. Not to stand around, not to fear, not to huddle together, not to cower in fear, but to GO! Are you ready to go and see your family, your friends and your community come to know Jesus?1. Joshua was given the assignment of leading the Israelites across the Jordan river and into the land God promised them. As they settled in the area and began to create a new life, sadly, many of their old habits and old practices began to creep back in. This usually took the form of idol worship. How could they possibly expect God’s favor while serving false gods?Read Matthew 25: 14-30, Philippians 3:12-14, Revelation 3:14-17Commitment to the mission God has given us is a vital part of our faith development. Sometimes though, staying true to our commitment can be dicult. There is a term for not committing to something: FOMO - fear of missing out. While being deprived of their freedom in Egypt, one thing they apparently weren’t deprived of was food. In fact, at one point, they pleaded with Moses to turn around and take them back to Egypt where there was an abundance of food. However, Moses reminded them that God didn’t lead them from slavery into the desert to die of starvation. Instead, God would provide for their daily needs. His provision for them consisted of quail and manna, and scripture records that everyone had enough. Each person, each family had the amount of food they needed for survival. It required them to have faith that God would provide more for them than their previous slave masters did.Read Matthew 14:13-21In this story, Jesus took a couple loaves of bread and a couple of sh and fed over 5,000 people! That is a conservative estimate. There were thousands of women and children as well, so Jesus easily fed 10,000-15,000 people that day. What they wanted was the food they were used to eating. So in this tension, they grumbled amongst one another, against Moses and ultimately against God. God could have provided them everything they wanted, but He chose to provide them with what they needed. Through this the Israelites learned that they always had what they needed. They gathered and ate and were full. Of course, they wanted to try and hoard some of the food because they were worried it would run out, but God didn’t let that happen. Manna and quail became their steak and potatoes, and it sustained them for 40 years while wandering in the desert on the way to the Promised Land.Read Matthew 6: 25-34, Matthew 7: 7-12, 2 Corinthians 9: 6-15Throughout the New Testament, we are reminded that God will provide what we need. Jesus Himself reminds us that God owns everything so there is no need to worry about tomorrow. Instead, we should ask, seek and knock, and like a good Father who loves His children, He will hear our requests. The Apostle Paul reminds the church in Corinth that God has blessed us so that we can be a blessing to others. Perhaps the real work in all of this is to regularly evaluate our desires, and learn to lean on Him for our provision. 1. How have you learned to distinguish between what you NEED and what you WANT in life?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________2. Is there something(s) you WANT that God might be calling you to surrender in this season so that He can lead you to Uncharted places in your faith and generosity? ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRAYER: Write a prayer asking God to help you discern between your needs and wants, and to reveal ways you can surrender your wants to help others nd what they need.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________DAY 3 TEMPORARY VS ETERNALRead Exodus 32: 1-8Moses would often retreat to a remote place to meet with the Lord; something he had been doing regularly since the burning bush moment earlier in his life. On one instance Moses was gone longer than normal, and the people began to lose faith. They began to wonder if he would come back or if he had deserted them. In their fear, they began to wonder if God had abandoned them, despite the regular blessings they had received. So in their fear, they collected items and used them to create a golden calf they could worship…and even ask for guidance. They traded the eternal God who had overseen their miraculous rescue for a temporary idol. This trade would sadly not be the last time this would happen, and would be a regular struggle for the Israelites throughout their history. WEEK FOUR

How should the truth that God will provide for our needs shape the way we approach our faith, especially in the area of generosity?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRAYER: Write a prayer thanking God for His daily provisions, and ask Him to help you trust that He will do the same in the future.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________DAY 2 NEEDS & WANTSRead Exodus 16: 4-36The Israelites needed food for survival. 1. | 54 | 55Read Matthew 7:6, Revelation 2: 2-5The Israelites get a bad rap for seeming to always forget God and what He did for them, and instead trade faith in an eternal God for faith in temporary things. Jesus, in His Sermon on the Mount, instructed His listeners to keep their devotion to God, and not to trade what is eternal for what is temporary. He used the analogy of giving pearls to pigs, as pearls were extremely precious, and pigs were extremely disgusting. Essentially, don’t give precious things, like your faith, money, time and trust to disgusting things like idolatry, sin or unrighteousness. The same holds true for us today. We have the same tendencies as the Israelites in the desert, which is to trade the eternal for something temporary. 1. How do we avoid the temptation to focus on temporary, earthly things and instead keep our eyes focused on eternal things?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________2. Do you view your generosity as contributing to something eternal or temporary? How might our attitude toward generosity change if we learn to view it as part of God’s eternal rescue plan?______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________PRAYER: Write a prayer asking God to help you focus on eternity rather than on temporary things.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________DAY 4 BLESSINGSRead Exodus 35:4-9After the golden calf incident, God delivered His Ten Commandments through Moses, and this began to establish a code the people would live by. More than simply giving them laws to follow, God desired to dwell with His people, and thus He instructed them to create a “tent of meeting” where He could dwell with them. It has always been God’s heart to be with His creation. He was with Adam and Eve until they pushed Him away. God was with Noah, Abraham, Issac and others, and He desired to be with His people again. A critic could read this portion of the story and say God wanted something FROM His people. But in reality, God wanted something FOR them. The tent of meeting was as much for them as it was for Him. Read Mark 10: 17- 29Mark records a story about the time a rich young man approached Jesus and asked to follow Him. In the conversation, Jesus discovered this young man’s heart was cluttered with concerns of his wealth. Sadly, the man walked away when Jesus addressed this issue. A critic might read this story and say that Jesus wanted something from this young man, but in fact, Jesus wanted something for him. He wanted him to be free of the burden that wealth can sometimes create. He wanted him to be free of earthly possessions so he could follow Him more closely. Ultimately, Jesus wanted to be with this young man, but his earthly possessions would have created tension in the young man’s heart. Similarly, Jesus doesn’t want things from us, He wants what’s best for us. He wants to be with us!1. There are so many ups and downs. There are times when the people serve God faithfully and times when they turn their back on Him. But a declaration they made right after they crossed the Red Sea and were spared from the Egyptians must have become ingrained in their minds, because they always returned to Him. The text says they put their trust in the Lord and His servant Moses. That is a powerful statement. They put their trust in Him. That trust, even though it waned from time-to-time, would sustain them like manna and quail through the 40-year journey they experienced on their way to the Promised Land. Read Proverbs 3: 5-6Just like the Israelites in the desert, there comes a time in our lives when we must declare our trust in Jesus. We do that rst in the waters of baptism, and then we daily choose to trust Him. In the good times and in the victories, we trust. In times of wandering or frustration, we trust. We must learn to trust that His ways are better than our own. 1. Now remember, many of the people crossing this river had only heard stories of the time God had parted the Red Sea for their ancestors. They hadn’t personally witnessed that miracle. However, those stories must have lled them with enough courage to start moving, because as they did, the water began to recede; but it required them to step into the water with faith that God would do what He promised. Read Matthew 14:22-36Peter did something only one other person has ever done: walk on water. The disciples were caught in a bad storm on a lake. They spent the night being tossed about by a storm, and just before dawn, they saw Jesus walking across the stormy lake toward the boat. At rst they were terried, but eventually, Peter got up the courage to call out to Jesus. Jesus invited him out of the boat, and Peter stepped out and walked on the water toward Jesus. As they settled in the land, they encountered hostile enemies, and one of those enemies was encamped in the city of Jericho. This city had a formidable wall that kept the Israelite army from conquering the city, yet that wouldn’t stop God. This time God didn’t split a sea, instead he demolished a city wall! God instructed them to march around the city for six days, and they watched on the seventh day as God honored their obedience and destroyed the wall. He preached great messages and provided comfort to those He encountered. And while His disciples were blown away with Jesus’ ministry, He told them they would see even more amazing things once the Holy Spirit came; and boy was He right! Once the Holy Spirit entered the disciples, they began preaching and teaching and performing miracles of their own. It’s known as the Day of Pentecost, and over 3,000 people were baptized. He walked daily with Jesus and saw many miracles, heard amazing teaching, and witnessed the birth of the Church! Yet, it was a vision of the future that God gave him that would prove to be one of the most pivotal moments in his life. God revealed to him that the message of salvation was for everyone, Jews as well as Gentiles. And this vision allowed him to see beyond his blind spots and into a future where ALL people would be invited to the table with Jesus. | 68WHAT ARE YOU ASKING ME TO DO?| 69HOW DOES MY UNCHARTED COMMITMENT CHANGE MY REGULAR GIVING AND ANY ADDITIONAL GIVING? During this two-year period, every dollar given to OCC is a contribution toward our Uncharted Initiative. This means that everything — including our general ministry budget, our local and global mission work and our renovation projects — will be fueled by Uncharted.1. PRAY ABOUT YOUR ROLEFirst and foremost, we are asking you to pray and seek God’s direction on what He is asking of you. Uncharted will be catalyzed by prayer, so please pray daily for what God will do in your life and through our church.2. ENGAGE IN A SMALL GROUPWhat better way to grow, ask questions and ignite your spiritual enthusiasm than to join a small group with others who are on the same journey. Go to okolonacc.org/groups to get signed up!3. DISCERN GOD’S DIRECTIONSpend time in personal reection with God using the Uncharted book. Then, initiate healthy conversations with others about what you’re learning.4. MAKE AN UNCHARTED COMMITMENTWe ask that you make a signicant generosity commitment that stretches your faith like never before. Be as generous as you can for the sake of leading more people to nd and follow Jesus. Give in a way that changes you.5. MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR ADVANCE COMMITMENT NIGHTOn Sunday, November 3 at 6:00pm we will gather to worship in the Main Auditorium. This worship experience will be a dening moment for our church as we oer our commitments and pray for the next generation that will come to know Christ at OCC.6. PREPARE TO BE AMAZEDWe are asking God for a season of personal and collective growth that only He can generate. Open your eyes and prepare your heart to see God at work in a new way.ARE THERE ADDITIONAL NON-MONETARY WAYS THAT I CAN GIVE TOWARD UNCHARTED?Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give toward the Uncharted Initiative. You might have stocks, property, or another form of stored resources with which God has blessed you and from which He might be prompting you to give. If you need assistance facilitating gifts of property or stock, please contact OCC’s Financial Coordinator, Julie Howlett at julie.howlett@okolonacc.orgHOW LONG IS MY COMMITMENT?We ask that everyone make a two-year commitment to Uncharted. Your fulllment of that commitment will begin on the First Big Give, which takes place on December 8, 2024. Uncharted will conclude on December 31, 2026.WHAT IF I AM IN DEBT RIGHT NOW? SHOULD I STILL GIVE?If you are currently making payments to eliminate debt, we commend you for your progress on this important goal. You should continue to do so. If we can help you on the journey to become debt-free, please let us know. OCC offers biblically-based budget counseling, nancial planning resources and an annual course entitled Financial Peace University. However, being in debt doesn’t give us a pass on giving. Giving isn’t about what God wants from you, but what He wants for you. God instructs us to nd a way to give with joy at all times, regardless of our circumstances.WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER GIVEN TO OCC BEFORE?Uncharted was crafted with you in mind. Uncharted is a one-fund generosity initiative, meaning it is different from a traditional capital campaign in which you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving. Uncharted is a call to sacricial generosity for everyone. If you have never given before, this is your chance to get in the game!WHAT IF I AM NEW AROUND HERE?We believe the local church has the most compelling mission to which we can give our lives. We would love for you to make OCC your church home as we seek to lead more people to nd and follow Jesus through Uncharted.
