Currently,those services are consolidated to our Level 1 hospitalsite in Huntsville.FAQs for ObstetricsPatients & Families Emergencies Scan QR codeLearn more about Obstetrics at MAHC and stay updatedon the latest developments.www.mahc.ca/areas-of-care/obstetrics/Emergency Care: If you experience an emergency, go to the nearesthospital.Emergency Transport: If you call 9-1-1, paramedics will assess thesituation and transport you to Huntsville Hospital or Orillia Soldiers’Memorial Hospital based on the severity of the emergency andyour location.Hospital Assessment: In an emergency, patients will be assessedin the Emergency Department, stabilized or treated as needed, andtransferred to the appropriate facility for ongoing care.We appreciate your patience as we work toward reopening the ObstetricsDepartment at SMMH. If you have any questions or concerns, pleasereach out to your care provider.

Your postpartum care will continue with your local provider. Theprovider who assisted you during labor and delivery will give you aclear plan for any necessary follow-up care.If your newborn requires hospital care after discharge, scheduledor routine assessments may have limited availability at SMMH inBracebridge. This will depend on nursing and physician coverage.Your physician or midwife will consider available resources whenscheduling these evaluations. A clear follow-up plan will beprovided for you and your baby upon discharge.Prenatal Care Prenatal care will continue to be available in your communitythroughout your pregnancy.In some cases, travel to Huntsville for assessment or to Orillia forspecialist care may be required.Routine blood work can still be completed at your preferredlocation, as per current practices.Standard ultrasounds will be scheduled through the usual referralprocess.Certain specialized ultrasounds or tests may need to be conductedat an alternate location; this is an existing practice and remainsunchanged.Assessments Availability for scheduled or routine assessments at SMMH inBracebridge may be limited, depending on nursing, midwife, andphysician availability. Your physician or midwife will coordinate aclear care plan based on your needs and available resources.For unscheduled or urgent assessments, please go directly toHuntsville Hospital for evaluation. You can call 705-789-0022ext. 2262 to notify the unit of your arrival—our team is here toassist you.Midwifery patients should continue following their usual processfor contacting their midwifery team.C-sections will be performed at Huntsville Hospital. LabourEvery pregnant patient should have a clear plan for their deliverylocation.
