Letter from Our President I am still subbing for our Founder CEO Nick Jordan but I m delighted to report that he is now post surgery and has completed an extensive regime of chemotherapy and radiation and while still recovering from the toll this fight has taken on him his doctors have confirmed that he is now cancer free and is looking forward to again assuming his full schedule of work on behalf of Wells of Life On another topic during my five decades of practicing law I once attended a Judicial conference and listened to an interview of the then sitting associate justice of the US Supreme Court David Souter When asked what he considered his legacy particularly because he was so frequently in the dissenting minority of so many opinions of the high court he replied For most of us the very best work that we do sinks into the stream very quickly We have to find satisfaction in being part of the great stream I thought then and still think that there are few statements with which I disagree so completely Wells of Life is a Christian non profit water development organization We are dedicated to serving the most vulnerable people including children and families by partnering with dedicate the remainder of my life to Wells of Life I want my efforts to make a definite difference in this world and I want to be able to see those measurable results immediately There are lots of wonderful charities doing good work on a number of different results including some disease research charities that I support since members of my immediate family died from those maladies but none can point to a single survivor who my donations actually helped nor tell me with any certainty when my donations will bring about the desired accomplishment I went to Uganda on my first trip highly suspicious of our charity especially after being told that every penny I had donated to finance a well would go only to the drilling and maintenance of the well this was before I was told of the Legacy Circle which I subsequently joined but when I saw with my own eyes the methodology developed which brought clean water access to a thousand people in a way that was immediate cost effective sustainable and duplicable I was convinced not only that my donations were fully utilized as promised but that my mission in life had been revealed to me Director of Operations Ashley Brigham Ashley wellsoflife org WellsofLife org Recently Bagaya partnered with Wells of Life and She for She also known as our Menstrual Hygiene Program to further her advocacy for female hygiene and to minimize the stigmatization behind menstruation It was the perfect time to perform the groundwork to end the misinformation about menstruation Ever since the pandemic has affected everyone in so many different ways women in Uganda were lacking necessities even more such as menstrual products Wells of Life partnered with the Menstrual Hygiene Management Program also referred to as She for She in collaboration with the organization s Healthy Village Program efforts This partnership provides a well rounded education to young girls about their menstrual cycle and how to care for themselves during their periods Wells of Life also created an education program for males to reduce the bullying rate girls encounter due to their menstrual cycles Before many girls would miss school because of the absence of menstrual products such as pads and even lacked basic knowledge about menstruation Every three and a half weeks girls miss on average about three days of school because of their menstrual cycles With the lack of pads sanitation and menstrual knowledge girls were often bullied because of their periods Now girls such as Namyalo Sandra a 14 year old from Mityana District can continue their daily activities even if they are menstruating This is so relieving now we don t have to miss classes because of our periods said Namyalo Sandra With the help of Elizabeth Bagaya and the Menstrual Hygiene Management Program partnership many young girls in Mityana are now equipped with the knowledge and products to end the stigmatization behind menstruation With the She for She menstrual kits Wells of Life has donated to these young girls they have given them something they were not able to afford says Bagaya The collaboration among Bagaya Wells of Life and She for She has given many girls in Uganda the confidence to unapologetically be themselves and understand that their hopes and dreams matter to us all With a solid team effort these girls are ready to end the
