November 4, 2022ג״פשת ןושח ’יךל ךל תשרפ TRUE TEST5:15 PMDear Parents,When Hashem instructed וניבא םהרבא with the directive of ךל ךל, the revelation of this command occurred with the words ךל ךל םרבא לא ׳ה רמאיו. Hashem said to Avraham ךל ךל. Generally, when a Navi receives a prophecy, the revelation is described as Hashem appearing to the Navi. The שודקה םייחה רוא wonders why this revelation to םהרבא differed and is described as an הרימא. This is unique; indeed, we find further in the Parsha where Hashem promises ץראה תא ןתא ךערזל, the Torah does employ the term of םרבא לא ׳ה אריו – Hashem appearing to Avraham. Explains the Ohr HaChaim. Avraham is the first person in the ten generations since Noach that arrived at the recognition that Hashem is the G-d over the world and orchestrates life. A person who merits a prophetic revelation is essentially being given a completely conclusive demonstration of Hashem’s existence, and he entertains no doubt that the message he receives is divinely ordained. But Hashem wanted to test the extent of Avraham’s belief. Therefore, Hashem communicated His command of Lech Lecha through speech – not through the ‘normal’ form of revelation. If Avraham would follow through and leave his familiar surroundings to an unknown destination, it would demonstrate Avraham’s implicit trust and loyalty towards Hashem despite not having received the command in the typical, conclusive manner. Once Avraham passed this test, further communication from Hashem was received through the normal form of divine revelation. A question remains. Hadn’t Avraham already proved his loyalty and implicit belief in Hashem during the incident of םידשכ רוא? Chazal tell us that he was prepared to die in the שאה ןשבכ rather than server Avodah Zara. Additionally, this entire incident is not explicitly mentioned in the Torah, but only hinted at indirectly. Based on the Ohr HaChaim, we can understand that the true test of a Yid’s loyalty to Hashem is if he fulfills Hashem’s command: what Hahem is רזוג, a person is םייקמ. Uhr Kasdim was a voluntary act. The Torah therefore, highlights ךל ךל as the true barometer of Avraham’s loyalty. Rav Leib, the son of the Chofetz Chaim, was once asked to share any םיתפומ that his father performed under the ללכ of םייקמ ה״בקהו רזוג קידצ. Rav Leib responded, that by his father, the motto was םייקמ ינאו רזוג ה״בקה!תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs ● In the Williston building, we had an assembly on Wednesday as a kick off to the Chemdas Yosef program. Nevertheless, it is about 4 times larger than the largest island, Greenland. The second largest island in the world is much smaller, only about 20% of the size of Greenland. It is part of the Malay Archipelago and considered by some to be the easternmost island of the Indonesian Archipelago (a subset of the Malay Archipelago). What is the name of the second-largest island in the world?”● Girls in 7g and 8g enjoyed the first series of electives this week! Students chose from three different options: 3D printing offered by Mrs. Miriam Pitchon, hairstyling offered by Mrs. Tova Kahn, and woodworking offered by Mrs. Shirah Sternfield. The students will spend the next few weeks learning a skill of their respective choice. Thank you Mrs. Wiesenfeld for coordinating the electives. ● On Monday, we launched our new "Ignite the S.P.A.R.K" program for grades 1-8G. In a full assembly, the girls gathered in the auditorium and were a treated to a skit produced and directed by Mrs. Fontek featuring the cast: Mrs. Krochmal, Mrs. Sandperl and Ms. Ostashinsky. The subject - inclusion during the school day. This was followed by a video presentation creatively produced and directed by Mrs. Sternfield and Mrs. Kaplinsky sharing the dream of all students to feel appreciated and included at Torah Academy. Mrs. Reifman engaged the students with powerful vignettes connected to our theme. The mystery of the S.P.A.R.K. acronym was then solved: "Show Peers and Adults Respect and Kindness" - highlighting the fact that every neshama has a piece of Hashem and everyone is special in their own way. The students learned the S.P.A.R.K. theme song and enjoyed waving glow in the dark "sparklers."● 5G reached their cumulative goal of 175 books this week! They celebrated with hot cocoa and marshmallows! Keep it up! Thank you Miss Halpern.● Grades 1-8G commemorated the yahrtzeit of Rachel Imeinu.
