PrefaceThis book contains intimate, passionate, love-infused letters written by Katherine Windress Sharp to her aspiring mystics and students of meditation. Each letter was penned from her one room treehouse, “Akasha“, which means “the ether”—that level of   where her A-frame house overlooked a dam crossing the meandering Unami Creek in Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania. There were windows all around with screens for summertime and four skylights to view the canopy of the forest. A ladder stretched beneath a trap door in the  Katherine had a deep love of nature and all forms of wild-life. She loved spending time in Akasha meditating, listening to Vivaldi, and writing. She loved weather extremes, too. Upon hear-ing an approaching thunderstorm, she would literally run from her house along the forest path and scamper up the treehouse ladder to experience the storm’s elemental ferocity—wind and rain pelting the sides and roof as Akasha swayed back and forth. Katherine’s life journey began in December 1939, as the only daughter of a minister and his beautiful wife. She was blessed with a wonderful childhood and learned much about the life of Jesus Christ. As an innately passionate person, Kathy had a wild and tumultuous adolescence emerging in her early 20’s as an artist, dancer, pianist, and executive assistant.

Underlying all this was an unquenchable thirst for Truth, Love, and God. Her quest was not philosophical; rather, it was an inexhaustible search for a practical way to directly and intimately come to know God for herself. In 1961 Katherine’s quest culminated in the discovery of a copy of Julian Johnson’s Path of the Masters in a dusty corner at the back of an old book store just off Harvard University’s campus. There she learned of a meditation practice called Surat Shabd Yoga, a practice of consciously connecting one’s soul with the Shabd, the Audible Life Stream, that creative power which sustains all life. The very next year Katherine began her meditation practice, traveling to meet her spiritual teacher, Maharaji Charan Singh Ji, in person at a spiritual colony located in the Punjab region of India. Four years later, her book, The Living Master, was published chronicling her journey into spirituality, the teachings of the Saints and their meditation practice. In 1975. Katherine was “called” to begin teaching this Path here in the United States. These Notes from Akasha stand out as some of Katherine’s most inspirational, passionate, intimate, and love- infused writings. Direct. Supportive. Challenging, Nourishing. Transformative. And, above all . . . Loving. Come. Venture forth. Enter here . . .

September 25, 19 81The forest is still today. Still and regal and expectant. Waiting . . . Waiting with us. There have been rushes of the free ying ones of the air, singing and calling a message of patience. Ah, there, now I hear them again soaring around and over my head. Moving through the silent trees as the Shabd* moves through our being. Expectant. Urgent. Still. And full with hope. Oh, what a beautiful day! I am becoming so lost that my ngers do not want to function. I can’t stand how beautiful you are. All that beauty unknown, unrealized, within you, within all. Oh, don’t you know that you, each one of you, are the core of life and love and the Spirit of God. The very Word of God roars within you. You will know . . . You will know. The ones of the air soaring above know. They are already part of it. Celebration! Giving of the Light. The loving and owing and becoming and dying. Release is within a breath, a grasp. You can touch it, it’s so near. Yet now it moves within you. Giving birth in consciousness. Rejoicing. Inexplicably, unbelievably, there is relief within our touch. Thank God.*Shabd: Audible Life Stream; Universal Spirit; God
