About the ProgramDignity Health Northridge Family Medicine Residency has been established since 1976 and is affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. We are fully ACGME accredited and have graduated over 380 family medicine physicians. As an unopposed program, our residents have the opportunity to treat patients with a wide variety of medical conditions without the challenge of having to compete with other programs at our facility.Sports Medicine FellowshipOur residency program began a fully ACGME accredited one-year Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2015. More information about the program can be found on our website.Didactics/LearningOur program holds a variety of didactics and educational year-round learning including: Daily inpatient and outpatient cases presentations, weekly didactic noon lectures, specialist rounds and monthly workshops. Residents also participate in yearly group quality improvement projects with the hospital and a 3-year research project that they present during their senior year at UCLA’s Annual Research Day. Senior residents participate in a practice management series to prepare them to apply for jobs and for life after residency. Application ProcessWe only accept applications through ERAS. For your application to be considered, please provide the following:• Curriculum vitae (CV)• Medical school transcripts• MSPE from your deans office • Personal statement• Three professional letters of recommendation• USLME/COMPLEX resultsMost interviews take place in person with a few days of virtual interviews offered. Interview season runs from mid-October to mid-January.CurriculumThe program is structured so that residents rotate through a block schedule each year. The additional allowance funds can be used to cover the cost of this.Outpatient Practice SettingResidents are given a panel of primary care patients on their first day of residency that they will follow during their 3-year residency. Our on-campus outpatient clinic serves a diverse range of patients, from newborns to the elderly, including many who are underserved as well as those from various backgrounds.Specialty ClinicsOur outpatient clinic features numerous specialty clinics led by our Family Medicine faculty physicians, focusing on resident teaching. These clinics include surgery, nutrition, sports medicine, and OB/GYN, with POCUS integrated into these practices as well as our Medical Safe Haven Clinic, which offers free healthcare services to victims and survivors of human trafficking. Residents also participate in patient home visits and visits to SNFs.Inpatient Medical CenterDignity Health – Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a 394-bed hospital. The hospital’s Level II Trauma Center is one of the only two trauma centers in the San Fernando Valley and it has the only certified Pediatric Trauma Center in the Valley. As an unopposed program, our residents have the opportunity to treat patients in all departments of the hospital. NHMC is equipped with Stoke, Cardiac/STEMI, Cancer, and Rehab Centers as well as Inpatient/Outpatient Behavioral Health, Ortho and Pulmonary services. Our program has inpatient pediatrics & OB (including newborn) services run completely by residents as well as an adult inpatient medicine service.Ambulatory CareWithin all of the non-inpatient rotations, residents have the opportunity to train at local outpatient centers at: Providence Facey; California State University, Northridge; Southern California Orthopedic Institute; Northeast Valley Health Corporation (an FQHC); University of California, Los Angeles; Northridge Hospital; and multiple private practices.
