OhioPHPHealthcare is a crucial element of a healthy and long life, and those who provide ourhealthcare are essential to this system. However, healthcare professionals are at anincreased risk for burnout, mental health and substance use disorders that couldpotentially impact the care they give.Burnout among healthcare professionals has always been a significant concern, butthe COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an alarming rise in burnout rates. In a surveyOhioPHP administered to Ohio’s healthcare professionals in 2021, we found that “thenumber of respondents indicating that they felt emotionally drained every dayincreased 367% during the pandemic.” The results of this survey inspired OhioPHP to pursue funding to expand and developconfidential programs to serve more of Ohio’s healthcare workforce. Previously,OhioPHP administered the State Medical Board of Ohio’s One-Bite Program as well asconfidential and disciplinary monitoring services to the Ohio Veterinary MedicalLicensing Board, the Ohio State Dental Board, the Ohio State Chiropractic Board, andthe Ohio Vision Professionals Board.Since receiving funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and AddictionServices, OhioPHP’s services have been made available to licensees of the Ohio Boardof Pharmacy, the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic TrainersBoard, and the Ohio Board of Psychology.
