www.itsindiaforum.comRoad safety experts stressed on the need for urgent implementation of anIntelligent Transport System(ITS) in India, one of the developing countries with ahigh risk of road accidents and fatalities due to ever-increasing trafficcongestion.Speaking at an event organised by International Road Federation -IndiaChapter (IRF-IC), Bureau of Indian Standards Transportation EngineeringDepartment Chairman Balraj Bhanot said ITS is a method of improving road safetyby providing drivers with real-time information about road conditions. "We mustanticipate and be ready for the problems and challenges that are ahead. This iswhere ITS can play a vital part," he added. Also, speaking at the event, IRF presidentemeritus K K Kapila said the best way to improve road safety in the country is touse intelligent transport system technology.ITS can be crucial, especially in thewinter period as initial hazard warnings can be displayed on public informationwebsites and interactive maps and mobile applications, he added. The approach in this paper focuses on how Uttar Pradeshcan leverage the transformative technologies to ensure social and inclusive growth in line with thedevelopment philosophy of the government. In addition, we should strive to replicate thesesolutions in other similarly placed developing countries. #AIforAll will focus on harnessingcollaborations and partnerships, and aspires to ensure prosperity for all. The purpose of this paper is to lay the ground work for evolving the State Strategy for ArtificialIntelligence. While this paper includes several recommendations, some of which may be deemeddisruptive, specifics (e.g. execution and financial implications) have been consciously avoided,since wider consultations and consensus building is needed to refine these recommendations.This document is intended to serve as an “essential pre-read” in building a truly transformativeapproach in pursuit of #AIforAll.
