Kia ora e te whānau, What a fantastic end to the term we’ve had. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Ka Hui Hikitia, our Celebration Assembly. It was such a joy to come together as a community and celebrate the many achievements of our tamariki. Your support makes all the difference. As we head into the holidays, there are lots of simple and fun ways you can keep the learning going at home – especially outside. Take a book along to the park or the beach or read under a tree in your backyard. Reading signs on a walk or telling stories together while out and about are great ways to build literacy too. Writing can be just as easy – tamariki might enjoy keeping a holiday journal, writing postcards, or even using chalk on the footpath to share a message or create a story. For maths, try baking together and talking about the measurements, count birds, shells or cars, or look for shapes and patterns while walking around the neighbourhood. We’re also excited to let you know that our school website is currently being updated to make it more helpful and easier to navigate for whānau. You can see some of the changes take place now and our lovely website developer will keep that mahi going into the new term. Our new build is progressing really well, and we expect it to be completed sometime next term. We can’t wait to see our learners enjoying the new spaces. The demolition of Te Moana will take place over the July holidays to make way for a much more open environment. Whaea Lisa will be leading the school as principal for the first week of Term 2 as she continues to take on and enjoy her leadership role. We know that you will all make her feel valued and comfortable in this role. Finally, a huge thank you to our staff for all the energy, care and commitment you’ve given this term. It’s been a big one, and we’re proud of everything we’ve achieved together. Wishing everyone a safe and restful break. We look forward to a wonderful Term 2 ahead. Ngā mihi nui, Whaea Ari Principal Peria School Principal’s korero

If there are 20 Tūī and they are sitting in trees, and there are only 2 Tūī in each tree. How many trees are there? Let’s find out…. Te Puna says 10! What if we had 30 Tūī who sat 5 in a tree. Then how many trees would there be? Let’s find out… Te Puna says 6! Kia ora whanau, these little mathematicians of yours have been working hard on multiplicative thinking, exploring the patterns and changes of skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We are learning to represent our thinking through imaging, that making mistakes helps us learn and understand more about the problem we are trying to solve and to see patterns and make connections through numbers. Our mat hums with the sound of numbers during maths! Our earliest readers are getting to grips with the sounds of stage one. Learning to make the sound and write them. Soon we will have enough sounds to put them together into words. This is very exciting for them. It has been a very busy term in Te Puna, and I am so proud of our youngest learners at Peria School. We have some solid routines running now and are ready to take on term two and all that it will bring us. Nga Mihi Whaea Beks Te Puna

Writing a Recount We are learning about recount writing. We are learning about the layout features and language features for a recount. These are some of our draft copies. We are using 3 of the 5 W’s to help us with our beginnings. Who? Where? What? We are learning to use time connectives to order our events. First, Next, Then, Finally, Te awa

Kia Ora Whanau mā! For literacy we have been doing lots of learning around texts and their purpose. When we read and write it is important for us to understand the author's purpose so that we can include and understand the appropriate features that support us to achieve our goal. We are learning about the three main purposes of text. We use the acronym PIE to help us remember. Persuade, Inform and Entertain. For the last two weeks we have been focussing on texts that are informative. To better understand this we have been learning about the difference between facts and opinions. We have also been looking into the use of headings, images and diagrams. To practice our new learning each akonga in our class has created their own animal report. Mātakitaki mai! Check it out!! Check out our online library by scanning the QR code > (looks best on a computer screen or turning your phone sideways) We would love to hear your feedback. Ngā mihi Te Moana

Kia ora e te whānau, Over the past few weeks, Te Rangi has been focusing on Kotahitanga—working together, building positive relationships, and supporting each other in our learning. Our Kiwican sessions have reinforced this kaupapa, helping us develop teamwork and communication skills. In maths, we have been exploring what it means to be a mathematician. We have been practicing estimation, taking risks, and showing our working. A big focus has been on developing a growth mindset—understanding that mistakes help us learn, and that changing our minds or finding multiple ways to solve a problem is part of being a great mathematician. For writing, we have been working on retelling stories using connectives such as "First, Next, Then, Finally" to show sequence and structure our ideas clearly. Illustrating our writing has also helped us deepen our understanding of storytelling. In reading, we have been building our comprehension skills by asking questions as we read, making sense of the text, and exploring new vocabulary. We are learning to make predictions and delve deeper into the meaning behind the words to strengthen our understanding. Ka mau te wehi, Te Rangi! Keep up the awesome mahi! Ngā mihi, Frances Te Rangi
