Rabbi Julie JacobsDear Friends,I have never been more proud of our community. In a world that continues to shift beneath our feet, thepeople of the Center for Jewish Life at Beth David—thefamilies, the students, the leaders, and the seekers—have shown again and again what it means to beresilient. You’ve responded to challenge with strength, touncertainty with vision, and to opportunity with openhearts. When I look back on all we have built together, I seemore than programs and projects—I see livesintertwined in meaningful Jewish moments. I see thechildren who once stood on the bimah for their b’naimitzvah now returning with children of their own. I seefamilies who found each other in times of grief stillshowing up to support others. I see our school, once amodest program, now a thriving center of inclusiveJewish education and innovation.I think of the first time we launched a new Shabbatservice with live music, unsure if anyone would come—and then watched as the sanctuary filled with peoplesinging in harmony. I remember hard conversationsthat led to lasting changes. I remember laughter on theplayground, tears under the chuppah, and thousands ofquiet acts of kindness that rarely make the bulletin, butthat form the soul of who we are.rabbijacobs@centerbd.org 5Our journey has not been linear. We’ve had to reimagine our future many times over. But withevery step, we’ve grown in clarity and in strength. Today, we are building toward something bold. The 40 Forward campaign is not only a commitment to infrastructure—it’s a commitment tolegacy. It’s the belief that Jewish life in Miami deserves beauty, function, depth, and permanence. *To Learn more about 40 Forward, see page 14.We are not simply preserving what we love—we are expanding it for future generations. To those who have been here every step of the way, thank you. To those who are new to ourcircle, welcome. And to all of you: this is your community, and your presence matters deeply.May this next chapter be one of growth, joy, and sacred purpose. With pride and gratitude,Rabbi Julie Jacobs

Message from the PresidentAnette Yelin6president@centerbd.orgServing as President of the board of directors of The Center for JewishLife at Beth David has been a profound honor. I am deeply grateful forthe partnership, passion, and dedication of the lay and professionalleaders who together are working to make our aspirations for the Centerfor Jewish Life at Beth David a reality.During my term as President, the leadership team has focused oninitiatives that further our mission. Guided by our Jewish values and adeep commitment to building an inclusive community, we focused onre-investment and renewal. Before I continue, I want to take a moment to thank my predecessor,Stuart Rosenberg, for his dedicated leadership and adroit handling ofour finances during and after his term, which, in addition to a priorperiod of institutional frugality, brought us to financialstability. Based on our financial position, we were able to adopt a“mentality of plenty” to our financial decision-making and reinvestmentstrategy. That approach has been successful; we have seen significantincreases in enrollment in the Gordon School and engagement with theCenter, particularly among young couples and families.ReinvestmentSome of the highlights of the reinvestments made during the past two years include: Increasing the compensation of our employees to market levels, which hasallowed us to keep our excellent staff;Hiring or promoting staff to fill added roles, including: a head of school of the Gordon School (the first time in its history that the school has a head of school);a second rabbi (who will join us this summer); other positions, including marketing, fundraising, accounting and finance, engagement, and operations personnel;Acquisition and integration of a robust, state-of-the-art, information management system;Development and launch of a beautiful new website; andEnhancing our security through increased training of staff and volunteers, and additional investment in security personnel and systems.

Message from the PresidentAnette Yelin7president@centerbd.orgRenewalOver the past four years, we have pursued a spirit of renewal: renewal of our commitment to ourJewish values, to create a community of inclusion, to provide a nurturing space for Jews andallies, and to support the education of our children. That process required us to analyze, deconstruct, and reconstruct the governance and leadership structure of the Center. Thecrowning achievement of our renewal initiative is the promotion or our beloved Rabbi JulieJacobs to the position of chief executive officer of the Center. That promotion has and willcontinue to allow Rabbi Jacobs to fully effectuate her vision, with the support of the board andour many constituencies. In the slightly more than one year since Rabbi Jacobs took on the role of CEO, she hasaccomplished a multitude of initiatives, all while continuing to be our rabbi, our cantor, our spiritual adviser, an entertainer, a mother, a wife, a community leader, and afundraiser!A representative list of her accomplishments includes:Hiring, training, and mentoring a staff that has the qualifications and desire to help the Center to achieve its goals; With guidance and input from various professionals and consultants, she overhauled many operational processes following best practices; and Reaching out to a broad array of constituents, many of whom have become active and enthusiastic volunteers in various roles.Rabbi Jacobs has infused her kindness, empathy, and spirituality in all her endeavors, thereby creating a culture of excellence and service to others. As we look to the future, we are excited about what lies ahead. On July 1, mysuccessor, Iris Destephen, will take the helm as our incoming board President. Iris hasworked long and hard alongside me over the last two years and she is well prepared tolead the Center. I look forward to supporting Iris as she takes us to the next level. On behalf of the board of directors, and our professional leadership, thank you for yourtrust, involvement, and commitment. May the coming year bring us all health, growth, and peace.B’shalom,Anette YelinPresident of the BoardThe Center for Jewish Life at Beth David

The annual P.A.C.T. (People Acting in Community Together) "NehemiahAction" is in the books – 40 congregations working together to make ourcommunity better. After months of research meetings, 800 P.A.C.T.members filled the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church on April 7thto witness the presentation of solutions toward alleviating housinginequities and to ask for commitments to action from our electedofficials. THANK YOU! to Mayor Daniella Levine Cava for her real-timesupport of proposals to facilitate a fair eviction process and ensure thatcommunities are served by developers building “affordable housing.”Let Justice Roll!10 CJLBD Social Justice CommitteeMission LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR. NO EXCEPTIONS.ךֹומָּכ ָךֲע ֵר ְל ָּת ְב ַה ָאְוSocial Justice is Judaism’s unifying mandate, central to who we are as Jews and what we do incontributing to Tikkun Olam, repairing the world -- through direct service, Tzedakah (Righteous Giving), andadvocacy. Why were food donations for our farmworkers different from every other food donation?Because the Food Insecurity landscape changed drastically overnight for the worse, and we were called upon to domore – to especially support farmworkers in Homestead, the people who pick our food. In partnership with TempleIsrael and Beth Or we collected enough groceries to support 145 migrant families living in constant fear/uncertaintydue to a torrent of immigration policies that have uprooted their lives. THANK YOU! to all who answered the call toshare the bounty that we are all blessed with and make good on our commitment to Tikkun Olam. Special shout-outto the Chai Five Youth Group and our B’nai Mitzvah Class for hands-on assistance. Our Homestead friends are verygrateful, primarily because we see them and we care.“Let justice roll down like waters, andrighteousness like an ever-flowing stream”(Amos 5:24)

Development ChairBrennda ReisRecently, I attended an event where someone posed the question, “If you had $36 million toinvest in a Jewish cause, what would it be?” Most responses centered around preservationHolocaust museums, archives, memorials. While those are profoundly important, I couldn’t helpbut wonder: What about the future?Too often, Judaism is framed through the lens of the past. And while our history is sacredmarked by both resilience and tragedy it doesn't define the totality of who we are. I’ve alwaysloved history. We study it so we don’t repeat it. We must honor our past and those who camebefore us but we also have a responsibility to look forward. This campaign is about the next generation. About the children who will walk through the doorsof our schools, sanctuaries, and community spaces. It’s about nurturing a Jewish life that isthriving not just surviving. It's about building places where tradition and creativity coexist, where everyone feels they belong. A place where we can cultivate future Jewish leaders, andcreate a living legacy that inspires for decades to come. When I first connected with Rabbi Julie, there wasan immediate sense of belonging. We bondedquickly, and her wisdom, warmth, and forward-looking vision for Judaism left a lastingimpression on me.As a 30-year-old living in Miami, I began to noticehow people my age were creating modern Jewishexperiences that felt vibrant, inclusive, andrelevant Shabbat dinners powered by initiativeslike OneTable, hosted in cool new venues, designed to engage and inspire. It wasn’t aboutchanging the essence of Judaism; it was aboutreimagining how we connect with it. These effortswere about meeting people where they areacross all stages of life while staying rooted intradition.Getting involved with this Capital Campaign feltlike a natural extension of that vision. It stemmedfrom the instant connection I felt with Rabbi Julie’smission. We’ve spent hours dreaming andbrainstorming together, and every conversationleaves me more inspired. This campaign isn’t justabout preserving what Judaism has been it’sabout imagining what it can be, and how we, as acommunity, can unlock that potential together. The past already happened. We honor it.But the future? That’s ours to build.Brennda Reis 15breis@centerbd.org

In just a few short weeks we will be coming tothe end of the school year at Gordon School. Ithas been a wonderful year in so many ways!We have experienced unprecedented growth inour school, with over a 23% increase comparedto last year. Also, we anticipate another year ofgrowth next year in our enrollment, especially inour Day School classes, where we will be addingtwo new classes to our roster - a secondKindergarten class and a new 7th Grade class! We are planning on having two Kindergartenclasses in our Tikvah program next year for thevery first time. Please help us continue to sharethe news about our warm, welcoming, andinspiring Gordon school to all of your friendsand neighbors! This year we have enhanced our curriculum in both the Hebrew and Judaic departments. Byadding a second Hebrew teacher, we have been able to add more conversational Hebrew tothe daily routine for the students, especially in the older grades. Also, we have introduced moreintegrated learning about daily life in Israel. Our new Judaic teacher this year has broughtmany new components to our curriculum, such as more hands-on interactive learning, andmore opportunities to talk about the values that we find in our Jewish tradition that help us to‘See the World Through Jewish Eyes.’ Further, we have added new curriculum materialspertaining to our beautiful Jewish customs, holidays, and rituals. A large focus has been for ourJudaic teacher to work with all of the ECC classes, and support the ECC teachers inunderstanding how to enhance the Judaic learning for the youngest of our students. As I complete my first year as Head of School at Gordon, I want to thank all of you for makingme feel so welcome in our warm and inclusive community at the Center for Jewish Life at BethDavid. I have so much enjoyed getting to know all of our families, staff, and members of ourlarger community. Whether it is celebrating Havdallah each Monday morning with the entireschool, having lunch in the cafeteria with the classes, playing in the playground with theinfants, teaching our Day School/Tikvah students at our weekly T’fillah sessions, or helpingRabbi Julie lead Shabbat each Friday with our families, each of these experiences has upliftedme in so many ways. It is truly a pleasure and honor to be part of this wonderful community.Head of Gordon School Bini Silverbsilver@gordonschoolmiami.orgB’Shalom,Bini Silver, Head of SchoolA Look Inside Gordon School16

The safety and well-being of our community at the Center for Jewish Life at Beth David remain atop priority. Over the past several months, we have taken meaningful steps to enhance our on-site security protocols and ensure that everyone who enters our space feels safe, supported, and seen.In early May, our security team conducted an in-depth emergency response training on-site.This session focused on how to act quickly, communicate clearly, and work together duringemergency situations. The training served as both a practical learning experience and areminder of the shared responsibility we all hold in keeping a secure environment. We are also excited to share that our security team continues to grow. As part of ourcommitment to enhancing protection and preparedness, we are introducing new teammembers who bring experience, dedication, and a strong sense of community care. I invite youto get to know them, stop by to say hello and get to know them when you see them around theCenter. In addition, I would like to remind everyone of the importance of accountability through simple, consistent practices such as checking in. Please remember to check in at the front desk or gatewhen coming in for a meeting, program and/or services. Those members who have not yetcome by the office to get their 'member badge', I encourage them to email meparias@centerbd.org to let me know their availability. These small but crucial actions help usknow who is in the building at all times, which supports both safety and emergency responsereadiness.I truly appreciate your continued cooperation and commitment to building a community that isnot only warm and welcoming, but also secure and prepared.Thank you for being our partners in safety and security.Paula Arias DoradoDirector of OperationsPaula’s Patrol: The Center’s Security ScoopOur Officers:Ronald HernandezGili KleinRolando Ruiz Ducles VermeilKadel De MirandaGabriel Mora19
