I chose this PSA because I originally wanted to go to school for astronomy and physics but I felt like I wouldn t be able to handle the stress and expectations I felt discouraged to pursue the STEM career I had a passion for and I feel like many girls have felt the same way We need to teach girls that they can be scientists and they should follow their dreams They shouldn t let anything deter them from chasing a STEM career Zo Naglieri Prescod 2020 7

Why We Love Marvel Superheroes By Sara Gigliotti Outside of the Avengers another group of heroes The Guardians of the Galaxy also make an impact on people They Is there anyone out there who is into superheroes If you are a group of misfits who save the galaxy from danger and do not know much about superheroes or might like to protect the planets They each have their own issues and flaws learn more about them then this article is for you but in the end they are like a family They also make an impact on people because it shows them that despite their rough Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU began childhoods and pasts the guardians make a connection and its debut in 2008 with the introduction the famous marvel come together to save the galaxy This shows audiences that characters we grew to love heroes such as Iron Man people may meet others they did not expect to come across and Captain America and the rest of the Avengers were the they form a special bond with them based on similarities While founding group that fully started the MCU Then the there are several other famous marvel heroes that also make Marvel Universe expanded to other famous heroes such such an impact on people the ways they impact audiences are as the Guardians of the Galaxy Ant Man Black Panther too much to describe In the years to come Marvel will continue and more Over the past ten years Marvel heroes from to have more heroes make impacts on people as well as the movies made an impact on people around the world developing new stories and outcomes for old and new heroes They make an impact on people from how they each alike bring something unique and powerful to the table Here is to the next ten years of Marvel The bottom line is that For example heroes such as Iron Man and Captain superheroes affect us all According to Jake Kraska who America are the heart and soul members of the published an article about the psychology of comic books and Avengers Iron Man brings intelligence and why we worship superheroes Superheroes display prosocial determination while Captain America brings justice and behavior leadership and a variety of positive attitudes all of loyalty The Avengers themselves are a group of heroes which have an impact on readers Leadership is transactional that come together to protect the world from threats in that is leaders do something for the group and the group in which they are famously known for Each member of the return does something for the leader and followers look to their Avengers has their own backgrounds and personalities leaders to mold transform and express who they are in which they combine their own strengths to become a Superhero stories also demonstrate an unwillingness to be a great team This shows people that no matter what or bystander Social learning theory argues that human social where they came from the heroes still worked together behavior is learned from appropriate models it is possible that to save the world despite their differences and troubled learning to help others occurs through the models of pasts superheroes Source http www lateralmag com articles issue1 i need a hero why were wired to worship superheroes 9

The ace in your pocket How to build your credibility and own your expertise by Aryn Banas Let s play a game it s called The Credibility Game Think about this Hello my name is_______ I m an expert in_________ Because________________ On September 25 Bay Path s Strategic Alliance program with the help of the Women s Fund were able to present Katie Orenstein to students faculty and women in our community To fill in the blanks you must ask yourself this What will make your credibility stand out against the other people around you whether in a room situation or group What is your own expertise This expertise could be based on academics work personal social etc What success in your life can separate you from the others What is your value What is your ace in your pocket She began her talk with the question Who narrates the world It was a question Katie continues to ask especially as a journalist Whose facts are we living by Over the years of being a journalist she noticed the lack of women reporters There were so few women voices being exposed to the public eye And she wondered why that was She came to realize that women just simply did not pitch or present ideas to be published as regularly as men in the industry From that point Orenstein s goal switched to changing history by changing who narrates the world By using this method and game you can figure out your own credibility in the world we live in This game is the creation of Katie Orenstein founder of The OpEd Project She has been on a mission to inspire people especially women to build a confidence in their credibility when facing the world Women can use the game of credibility to find out how much you are valued for your expertise Orenstein said We need to spread our success because it can separate us from our competition especially men In our world if women shows confidence she can sometimes be presented in a negative light In the real world we have 30 seconds to make ourselves shine and command attention So we need to use everything we can well to maximize our influence which is driven by a maximum awareness of your value to others By expressing our expertise a powerful dividing word to generate the belief of who narrates the world we are sharing our virtues to benefit ourselves It is selfish to not share our differences for the fear of self Katie Orenstein empowers women to no longer abuse our virtues and use our knowledge to build credibility and success thus becoming the narrators of our lives and of our world For more information go to www theopedproject org or email catherinebaxter opedproject org 15

Biology Hello everyone My name is Lily Uttecht and I am a senior biology major here at Bay Path This past summer I had the privilege of participating in the Integrative Marine Biology REU Program at UMASS Dartmouth here in Massachusetts REU programs are interesting because they are paid internships that are funded specifically by the National Science Foundation I am very lucky to have gotten this internship experience and I feel as though I have greatly benefited from it on multiple levels Firstly as I live in the area I am a commuter here at Bay Path so I have not yet experienced living away from home This summer I got to live in a 4 person apartment style dorm on the UMASS Dartmouth campus all expenses paid I made great connections with my other 3 roommates and we are already planning a reunion meetup I also bonded with the other people in the program and I am thankful that our group of 10 students was so compatible Not only did I have a great time socially but it was also very intellectually stimulating I got to work in the lab with Dr Kathryn Kavanagh on a wildlife diversity sampling project Every other week for the 10 week period I would go out 2 days in a row at different times of the day based on the tides and collect small baitfish species We did this via a process called seining where a large net is dragged vertically through shallow water along the shore and any fish caught are collected in a bag at the center of the net
We conducted our research in five different estuarine locations around North Dartmouth Massachusetts It was my job not only to catch the fish but also to identify and count them all We counted over 12 000 fish I also got the chance to work with representatives from the Lloyd Center for the Environment in Dartmouth and I learned a lot about interacting with and protecting local species while I was with them At the end of the 10 weeks each of us students got to create and present a scientific poster at a symposium on campus This was a very fulfilling experience and I was proud of not only myself but all of the other students as well I was thankful to have already had poster making and presenting experience under my belt from Bay Path Additionally during the week of October 15th I attended the National Meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology in New Mexico to present my honors thesis poster with own very own Dr Gina Semprebon I am extremely honored to be working with her and I am very excited to be attending my first conference Bay Path is truly unique and special with its undergraduate research project opportunities and I encourage anyone reading this to do their own if they are able to
