6 CENTRAL DENVERAuraria/River MileThe neighborhood of Auraria is dominated by three institutions of higher learning: University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. Parts of the original neighborhood remain in the Ninth Street Historic Park on the Auraria campus. The other two major features are Elitch Gardens and the Ball Arena. 11 CENTRAL DENVERClaytonClayton is a diverse neighborhood with residents from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. It has managed to retain nearly all of its original architecture, which gives the area its unique, and original charm. It’s home to Cluster Studios, a large former warehouse and early pioneer of a mixed-use workspaces. The neighborhood is named for the former historic George W. 12 CENTRAL DENVERDowntown DenverDenver’s central business district has become a 24-hour micro-city, offering a lively mix of business, arts, entertainment, recreation, dining, and shopping. 13 CENTRAL DENVERElyria-SwanseaElyria-Swansea is a neighborhood in transition. It’s location surrounding the I-70 viaduct replacement project and the National Western complex, are game changers, and will change it dramatically in the next decade. Construction is now underway for a planned $1 billion overhaul of the stock show complex and the surrounding area. When completed, the area is expected to lure an additional million visitors annually. 14 CENTRAL DENVERFive Points/RiNoFounded in the 1860s as one of the city’s rst suburbs, Rino/Five Points is a busy retail, restaurant and burgeoning residential hub, adjacent to downtown Denver and conveniently linked by light rail. The area has some of the city’s oldest turn-of-the-century homes and the diverse neighborhood is enjoying an on-going development of apartments and modern townhomes. 16 CENTRAL DENVERLoDo/Union StationLoDO is Denver’s front porch, greeting residents and visitors at its epicenter, the gloriously renovated Union Station. 24 NORTH EAST DENVERMontbelloMontbello began as a suburban-style development in the 1960s as a mixed—use community at the edge of northeast Denver. Residents enjoy spectacular views of Mount Evans, Long’s Peak, and the Continental Divide. To the north of Montbello is the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, nearly 17,000 acres. The wildlife refuge is home to more than 330 species of wildlife including raptors, deer, raccoons, coyotes, white pelicans, black-footed ferrets, black-tailed prairie dogs, and bison. 25 NORTH EAST DENVERNortheast ParkHillNortheast Park Hill offers residents the best of suburban living in the heart of a metropolis. Spend the morning out on the Park Hill Golf Course and pop downtown for dinner via the convenient light rail station @ 40th & Colorado. 35 NORTH WEST DENVERSloan’s LakeSloan’s Lake features a range of home styles and prices near the city’s largest lake. Modern townhomes are being built throughout, joining traditional bungalows and ranches sitting on large lots.
