Welcome to all dancers, coaches, fans, and ofcials attending the 2024 NDADD State Competition! The Executive Board of NDADD and I are pleased to welcome you to our event to have you show your support to our dance teams. This can be accomplished by cheering and watching them perform, both in-person and via our livestream. We look forward to an exciting weekend of athletic and artistic competition. We are excited to be at the Minot State University Dome this year and graciously thank the staff at Visit Minot and MSU for their hospitality. I also want to say thank you to all the dedicated vendors and volunteers who help to make this event possible. You are much appreciated!In addition to hosting the State Dance Competition, NDADD continues to provide annual coaches’ training for all our member team coaches, along with judges’ training for all our in-state, certied judges. NDADD continues to strive to support our mission: To promote the growth and development of dance and drill in North Dakota. Board members, ofcials, judges, coaches, dancers, student managers, and spectators must pledge to make good sportsmanship a priority and encourage responsible citizenship at all times.Fundamentals of good sportsmanship: – Know the rules of the competition. – Show respect for the ofcials and judges and accept their decisions gracefully. – Show respect for all teams. – Appreciate a good performance regardless of team afliation. – Maintain self-control, serving as a role model. – Show a positive attitude. – Use social media appropriately.Guidelines for spectators: – Be an exemplary role model by positively and enthusiastically supporting all dance teams. – Respect decisions made by competition ofcials. – Respect ofcials, judges, coaches, participants, and other fans. – Do not disturb other spectators by blocking their views with large signs or by walking in front of people photographing the competition. Michelle started her dance career as a young girl taking lessons at a local studio. In high school, she joined her school team, the Century Centahnas, where she was a captain and choreographer. While attending Bismarck State College, she coached the Horizon Adajios for two years. She then spent the next four years studying Dance and Management at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, where she earned her MBA.After college, Michelle returned to Bismarck with her husband Steve, and she took a job coaching her former dance team, the Century Centahnnas, where she coached from 2009-2015. During those years, the Centahnas regularly placed in the top three, competed at a great number of National competitions, and Michelle was selected Coach of the Year by her peer coaches in 2014. Michelle says that the greatest pride of her coaching years is how many of her former dancers went on to be amazing coaches and leaders in dance themselves: Jesse Grenz, Kristy Orgaard, Leksie Boese, KeAnna Kostelecky, Alicia Ripplinger, Liz Sanda, Sydney Trottier, Hunter Hellman, Ashley Schwartz, and Paige Neameyer just to name a few.After retiring from coaching, Michelle was elected Vice President of NDADD and served in that position from 2015 to 2023. In addition, she managed the state competition merchandise for 12 years, chaired the Fall Convention committee for six years, and served as the judge co- coordinator for four years. As judge co-coordinator, she implemented a new judge training curriculum and protocols, and she was a certied judge for nine years. In total, she has been an NDADD board member for 16 years.Michelle lives in Bismarck with her husband Steve and their two kids and is here at State again this weekend, supporting NDADD and the sport of dance.2024 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEEMichelle Kaufman
