A HOME FOR NEW CANADIANS “A ‘Home for New Canadians’ was a collaborative group project that challenged designers to create a residential space in Muskoka, Ontario, for two primary tenants from distinct cultural backgrounds. We were provided with a list of underrepresented cultures in Western society and selected the Tibetan and Nubian communities for our design. The project’s main objective was to seamlessly integrate design elements and principles from both cultures into a cohesive and harmonious home while maintaining functionality, comfort, and cultural authenticity. My role focused on designing the layout of the first floor, which includes shared common spaces such as the living room, kitchen, dining area, and guest bathroom. I carefully considered spatial planning to promote interaction and inclusivity while incorporating key cultural influences from both backgrounds. This involved researching traditional Tibetan and Nubian architectural elements, materials, and decorative motifs to create a balanced environment that reflects both identities. Additionally, I prioritized natural lighting, open-concept living, and sustainable design choices to enhance the overall ambiance and livability of the space. By thoughtfully merging these cultural aesthetics, the design fosters a welcoming and meaningful home for its residents.A’A

ROSALIE SHARPE PAVILION The proposed redesign of the Rosalie Sharpe Pavilion for ELLE Magazine creates a welcoming oce space that feels like a second home for employees adjusting to in-person work after the COVID-19 pandemic. A warm color palette of earthy tones, combined with natural materials like wood, stone, and organic textiles, fosters comfort and a sense of familiarity while reducing stress and enhancing focus. To support work-life balance and employee well-being, amenities such as a game room, multiple lounge areas, and activity corners provide spaces for relaxation, socialization, and creativity. Plush seating, soft lighting, and interactive elements encourage both collaboration and personal retreat, creating an environment that feels inviting rather than rigidly corporate. By blending residential warmth with professional functionality, this design proposal aims to redefine the modern workplace—ensuring it is not just a place to work, but a space where employees feel valued, inspired, and at home.

As part of a group of four, we worked on a project that involved extending an existing building at King and Spadina in downtown Toronto, transforming it into a dynamic retail and hospitality establishment. The design aimed to seamlessly integrate various programs, including boutique retail spaces, dining areas, short-term accommodations, and wellness facilities, creating a vibrant, multi-use destination in the heart of the city. To pay homage to the pre-existing building’s well-known coee shop, Quantum Coee, we named the hotel Quantum Quay, reflecting both the site’s history and the idea of movement, energy, and connection. My role in the project focused on designing the fitness and wellness floor, as well as the single and junior unit suites. For the wellness space, I prioritized an open, calming environment by incorporating natural materials, biophilic elements, and strategically placed lighting to promote relaxation and rejuvenation. The fitness area was designed with functionality and flexibility in mind, ensuring an engaging and motivating atmosphere. For the single and junior unit suites, I emphasized ecient layouts, high-quality finishes, and warm, inviting interiors to provide guests with a comfortable and stylish retreat. This project challenged me to balance aesthetics, functionality, and user experience while collaborating closely with my team to achieve a cohesive and innovative design solution.KING-SPADINA HOTEL: RETAIL AND HOSPITALITY
