CONFIDENTIAL: NOTES FROM THE 2023 NAEC CONVENTION S E P TE M B E R 2 0 , 2 0 2 3 Industry Trends • Industry Consolidaon seemed to be a theme not only with suppliers, but companies as well. Dominik Sachsenheimer of the Maven Group is well entrenched in acquisions between contractors and feels that will connue with the amount of available PE capital. • Shrinking of individual product lines through conglomeraon is becoming commonplace. Vantage being the perfect example. VDA needs to stay on top of these market changes. • Code developments and updates are driving technological advancement. VDA must stay on top of these changes in every municipality to connue being the leader of change with clients. Vendors will help VDA through these developments with the appropriate amount of engagement. Product Trends • CE Electronics has a great, signicantly condensed opon for Lobby Panels that is serial link reducing wiring, conduit size, and labor. Worth checking out. CE Electronics is on the forefront of the elevator LCD / LED screens and providing informaon for passengers in elevator cabs. Charlie Simkins has always been a great resource. • Both GAL and Smartrise are markeng Desnaon Dispatch, but very new to the market, so need much more info prior to approving as an opon. • Wiur has a door operator and hoistway door equipment modernizaon packages that are tuned for specic manufacturers’ equipment. This helps clients with older, historically signicant door equipment to have a “no drill” installaon of new door equipment, and this is of parcular interest when exisng hoistway door panels may contain asbestos. • The Semac 2000 has been around for approximately ve years, inially on hydraulic non-proprietary jobs. They now have MOD and High-Rise opons for this operator. • The AMD 2 and SGV operators have opons for all applicaons. This product allows us to replace the hoistway door equipment with a bolt-on, no-drill soluon. They even have underdriven and round glass panel conguraons. Their website is more geared toward the European market, but it does have a lot of good informaon (wiur.com). • MAD has a new cab product integrang one or several monitors into the cab wall structure. It is a customizable display that can provide customer messaging as well as posion indicator inputs. I could see our Class A Oce space clients and Casinos ulizing this product.
P A G E 2 • Reynolds & Reynolds (Bethlehem, PA) has been a leader in the “Emergency Return System / Baery Back-up” for tracon and hydraulic elevators, and VDA was one of the rst to specify their product as an Alternate in our specicaons, many years ago. They have upgraded their product to the “TPV2 Series,” which is designed for tracon elevators and has a higher capacity than the older system; performance is improved and packaging a bit nicer. Cloud-Based Technology • Claddagh with “CloudMonitoring” and Li AI, were both present at the convenon. Claddagh has an impressive product, in use for approximately seven years now, and much improved. Cloud and Web-Based Technology is becoming commonplace, from elevator monitoring to code-related communicaon requirements. • Monitor / K-Tec comply with the new code-required communicaon/camera technology, web-based, without monitoring fees. This typically works for large Clients who want to monitor their own devices, enabling savings. There are several suppliers of this equipment that are comparable with monitoring fees. • Vantage, has a cloud monitoring system that the customer or their service company can access. It is customizable to show fault logs, inputs/outputs, and track mulple other points of data. This could help some of our larger Clients avoid service call charges by leng them know if an escalator shutdown requires a manual reset or can be restarted by onsite trained personnel. It is a useful way to track service calls and potenal repeat problems. Future Events • The 2024 Convenon is a “United” event, including NAEC, IAEC, Elevator U, and other organizaons, to be held on September 23-26, 2024, in Atlanc City, NJ.
