hen Rick and Sandy Sheldon set out to find their home away from home in the Sierra Nevada mountains it didn t take long to find the perfect not so perfect abode When the Thomas Kinkade ish storybook facade at the end of one of the most beautiful streets in Northstar s Big Springs community came into view it had pick me written all over it 18 My Northern Home Fall 2022
LOCATION SQUARE FOOTAGE ARCHITECTURE INTERIOR DESIGN Renovation Required With renovation on the horizon Rick and Sandy divided and conquered he set out to find the contractor she designed the new interiors My Northern Home Fall 2022 19
before hile the exterior was up to par the interior Not so much but that s what made it perfect it was ripe for renovation The interior finishes weren t what Sandy had envisioned however the proportions and flow were exactly what they were looking for With 4 bedrooms and 3 1 2 bathrooms it would easily accommodate their family and guests which elevated it to forever home status It had vaulted ceilings galore expansive windows rustic log beams and extensive stonework WHAT DIDN T THEY LIKE White pine ceilings and wainscotting Spanish looking 18 off white floor tiles almost dirty looking faux finished walls taupe colored kitchen cabinetry and countertops fabric cornices adorned with roses and green interior exterior carpet before Raw white pine everywhere Off white tile didn t read mountain home 20 1999 did t know how much I loathe taupe My Northern Home Fall 2022
Inspiration Stone Detail No designer credited with this photo on Pinterest The moment Sandy saw this photo the design direction was estabished cozy rustic elegance With a similar window expanse and rustic beams already in place it was a matter of designing a new stone fireplace and finding the right mason to install similar details and capture the appeal Artwork was sourced to mimic the inspiration room My Northern Home Fall 2022 21
TIP TIP Before The stone mason nailed it Shrinking the depth of the fireplace as it got closer to the ceiling minimized the overall weight of the new stone Reusing existing firebox glass doors saved cost The first order of business was to remove all the surfaces that weren t staying and to install new stonework Sandy was so excited when she found the exact same stone as the inspiration photo The greatroom with it s soaring ceiling deserved a massive fireplace to take advantage of the ceiling height instantly creating a substantial new focal point TIP The stone consisted of random sizes installed at different depths to create added interest and texture The face of the entertainment island also received the beautiful new stone All three of these fixtures were in the same space Not only did they not When there s belong together stylistically no doubt Rip the scale was all wrong Them Out TIP 22 Wood floor being installed over hydraunic heating My Northern Home Fall 2022

TM Original Recipe Hearty Beef STEWP 2T organic ghee 1 medium red onion chopped 4 cloves garlic sliced 1T dried organic oregano 1t salt 1t black pepper 1 3t red pepper flake 1 1 2 lbs grass fed chateaubriand cubed 3 4 cup Beringer Cabinet Sauvignon 5 shiitake mushrooms sliced 2T organic Better Than Bouillon roasted beef base mixed in 5 cups water 1 medium zuccini sliced in rings and then halved 2 cups 1 2 Delecata squash cut in 1 2 cubes 2 cups 30 French green beans ends trimmed and cut in half Wide Egg Noodles 1 4 of a 16 oz bag cooked per package instructions Organic micro broccoli sprouts 1 2 of a 2 5 oz container In a dutch oven melt ghee over medium heat Add onion and garlic Stir to combine and cook until onion starts to become translucent approx 2 minutes Add oregano salt black pepper and red pepper flake Stir in beef and brown for five minutes Add wine mushrooms and beef broth stir Cover and cook over medium high heat for 20 minutes stirring twice Add zuccini Delacata and green beans Cover and cook over medium heat for 10 15 minutes or until squash is soft Add cooked egg noodles and micro broccoli sprouts Stir to combine and simmer over low heat uncovered for five minutes Ladle into serving bowls while hot and ENJOY Serves 6 Property of com
