Ecco ridente in cielo From Il barbiere di Seville by Gioachino Rossini In the opening aria from Il Barbiere di Seville Count Almaviva sings a beautiful song of love underneath the bedroom of Rosina while in disguise While singing he explains how amazing the wonderful moment will be when he is able to see Rosina s face He hopes that he does not wake the man who he believes to be the father of Rosina Doctor Bartolo Almaviva later finds out Bartolo is not her father and is instead planning to marry her Text Translation Lo in the smiling sky the lovely dawn is breaking and you are not awake and you are still asleep Arise my sweetest love oh come my treasured one soften the pain oh God of the dart which pierces me Oh joy Do I now see that dearest vision has she taken pity on this soul in love Oh moment of love Un aura amorosa From Cos fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Ferrando and Guilliemo have great faith that their girlfriends Dorabella and Fiordiligi would always stay faithful So much so that they make a bet with a cynical man named Don Alfonso that their girlfriends would never be unfaithful To prove this true the men disguise themselves and make advances at both Dorabella and Fiordiligi The ladies strongly deny the men in disguise and refuse to talk to them anymore Thinking that the bet is over and that they have won Ferrando sings an aria of happiness and joy where he expresses his appreciation and love towards Dorabella for staying faithful when tested Text Translation A breath of love From our treasures Will afford our hearts Sweet sustenance A heart nourished On the hope of love Has no need Of greater inducement Sonata No 4 Op 65 mvt i Felix Mendelssohn Felix Mendelssohn was not only a composer but also a virtuoso organist He was well known in his day for his performances of Bach organ works and for improvisations After a successful concert tour in England he was commissioned by English publisher Coventry and Hollier to write a set of organ pieces He produced a set of six sonatas which have become a staple of the organ repertory The fourth sonata begins with arpeggios and scales that define the B flat major tonality This material is developed until it gives way to a fugue featuring dotted rhythms and chordal punctuation on strong beats Listen for the compelling moment when the opening material and the fugal material are combined to fashion a quasi development and recapitulation Agnus Dei Georges Bizet Text Translation Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world have mercy on us Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world grant us peace C est l amour vainqueur It is love the conqueror From the Opera Les Contes d Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach The plot of Les Contes d Hoffmann unfolds as a chain of three flashbacks by the principal character Hoffmann a distracted poet whose bizarre tales of love and woe center on the celebrated opera singer Stella with whom he is obsessed This aria is sung by Nicklausse a muse and Hoffman s friend In this scene Nicklausse is with Hoffman She sings of music and love and counsels Hoffmann to recognize that artistic love trumps romantic love This piece is also known as the Violin aria because it has a violin solo in the orchestra and because of the poetic description of a violin sound Text translation See beneath the quivering bow sound box vibrates Hear the heavenly accent of this unconscious heart Listen Passing through the air the sound penetrating and clear of this tearful chord It consoles your tears it mingles its sorrows with your elated sorrow It is love love the conqueror Poet give your heart It consoles your tears it mingles its sorrows with your elated sorrow It is love love the conqueror Poet give your heart Au fond du temple saint At the back of the holy temple From Les p cheurs de perles by Georges Bizet Nadir and Zurga come together after some time of being away The two friends had been in love with the same woman previously but had vowed each to one another to renounce that love and remain true to each other In this duet they reminisce of the day they first fell in love From wikipedia org Text Translation NADIR At the back of the holy temple decorated with flowers and gold a woman appears I can still see her ZURGA A woman appears I can still see her NADIR The prostrate crowd looks at her amazed and murmurs under its breath Look this is the goddess looming up out of the shadow and holding out her arms to us ZURGA Her veil parts slightly what a vision what a dream The crowd is kneeling TOGETHER Yes it is she it is the goddess more charming and more beautiful yes it is she it is the goddess who has come down among us Her veil has parted and the crowd is kneeling NADIR But through the crowd she makes her way ZURGA Already her long veil hides her face from us NADIR My eyes alas seek her in vain ZURGA She flees TOGETHER Oh yes Let us swear to remain friends We have seen her she is the goddess who today led you to me and from now I ll keep you my promise close as brothers we shall be Great goddess heaven descended she today has led you to me Now we shall tread one single path never again to part till death
