DEAR MUSANA FAMILY,September 16th, 2023 marked 15 years since we first rescued 80 children from an abusive and broken orphanage and brought them to Musana. The beginning years of running a children’s home were filled with learning and unlearning. We were exposed to the underbelly of charity and the unintended consequences that aid has caused in low-income developing communities. We experienced firsthand how the dependency mentality has prevented local initiative and enterprise development. We began to understand that if we truly wanted to see communities lifted out of poverty, the approach needed to change from charity and aid to investing in long-term sustainable solutions with the local people leading their own development. After 15 years, it has been incredible to see the impact Musana’s unique model has had on transforming communities! The word we used to sum up 2022 was “Growth.” The word to sum up 2023 is “Quality!” In education, Musana runs six day and boarding primary and high schools. Our primary schools in Iganga and Kaliro had the best performances in their districts on the Primary Leaving Exams (PLE). In healthcare, we operate two comprehensive hospitals. Our hospital in Iganga was voted the best private health facility in the region by the Busoga Health Forum. We are proud to be known as an organization that provides not just affordable, but also quality services to the communities we serve! Because of our unique model of sustainability, in 2023 we were able to generate $2,907,520 of local income to cover 95% of our total operating budget, including all outreach programs! In Iganga alone, we generated profits of $409,746, proving that our model works and that low-income communities can flourish independently without outside aid. The profits were then plowed into the community through scholarships and free medical services. This sustainability model allowed your donations to scale our impact to reach more lives! In 2023, you invested more into capital infrastructure than any year to date… your largest investments were made in Musana Vocational High School in Kaliro which opened to students on January 30, 2023, and Musana Community Hospital in Kamuli which opened on April 1, 2024. You helped us to construct, furnish, and open a new Guesthouse in Kaliro which is another income-generating business! Reflecting on the past 15 years, we are overwhelmed by how God used a simple decision to rescue 80 children to build a locally led, owned, and sustained organization that is impacting hundreds of thousands of lives! He has brought a lavish and abundant harvest! Thank you for investing in a long-term sustainable solution that is lifting communities out of poverty. Together, we will continue to build a world free of dependency and full of dignity!GOD BLESS,Haril and Andrea KazindraCo-Founders and Executive Directors02 04 0708 10 12 14 16 182022 2630 3132CONTENTS2023 HIGHLIGHTS15 YEARS OF MUSANAVISION & MISSIONMUSANA’S MODELREPLICATIONEDUCATION IMPACTHEALTH IMPACTECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IMPACTCOMMUNITY OUTREACHHIGHER EDUCATION & TRAININGCAPITAL IMPACT & INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTSFINANCIAL REPORTTHANK YOU!GET INVOLVEDOUR TEAM1

MUSANA’S MODELThe Challenge: CHARITY VS. DEVELOPMENTWe recognize the interconnected needs of vulnerable communities and take a holistic approach to build pathways out of poverty. When you invest in Musana, you empower locals with the infrastructure they need to make change within their own communities. Musana believes in empowering local leaders to drive economic and social growth of their own communities through social enterprises focused on education, health, and economic development (skill training and job creation). Social enterprises generate income opportunities that meet the basic needs of the business and allow profits to be reinvested into their social mission. because social enterprises do not depend on donations, they can sustain themselves long-term. This allows their models to be replicated in other communities, generating greater impact than most nonprofits and charities. What is a SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?Why MUSANA?Why COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT? COMMUNITY OUTREACHPROFITS GENERATED BY LOCAL ENTERPRISES ARE USED TO SUPPORT THE MOST VULNERABLE members of their own community through scholarships & free health servicesHEALTH OUTREACH DAYSIn rural Eastern Uganda, access to health care is challenging. In response to the needs of these villages, Musana’s Social Work Department and Musana Community Hospitals organize Health Outreach Days. Through Outreach Days, Musana has partnered with 78 dierent organizations to reach people with a variety of specialty health services. At these events, social workers and health practitioners travel to rural areas of the communities we serve to provide free services including malaria and HIV testing, vaccinations, dental check-ups, family planning, nutrition screenings, and counseling. In 2023, we reached 18,137 people with free health services and preventative healthcare education during Health Outreach Days. PROJECT RESTOREProject Restore reaches the most vulnerable children and adults in dire health or living with disabilities, to provide proper medical attention through surgeries and rehabilitation. The goal is that once they are able to live independent lives, they can give back to their communities. In 2023, Project Restore provided treatment to 105 individuals suering from severe cases of malaria, anemia, hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, dermatological conditions, Hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, and hearing or visual impairments.TEEN MOTHER PROGRAMTeenage pregnancy rates spiked in Uganda during COVID-19 and post-pandemic, primarily as a result of the two-year school closure and unstable economy. Once pregnant, many students do not have the option to continue their education. At the start of 2022, Musana’s Social Work Department launched a program to help teenage mothers continue pursuing their education. In 2023, 29 young mothers were enrolled. Each beneficiary of the program receives a scholarship in skill development at MEC, boarding for her and her child, childcare while she attends class, and healthcare at Musana Community Hospital for her and her child.KEEP KALIRO CLEANMusana primary and high schools held community outreach days where they cleaned the streets in their community and shared their knowledge with community members on hygiene, sanitation, and trash management.65% NURSERY & PRIMARY SCHOOLS25% VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS4% MUSANA EMPOWERMENT CENTER2% UNIVERSITY4% OTHER1,849 SCHOLARSHIPS (full or partial)4,560 Free Family Planning Services Provided2,972 Free Immunizations for Children & Pregnant Women2,034 Free Prenatal Care Services Provided105 Beneficiaries of Project Restore18,137 Patients Reached During Health Outreach Days4,091 people in Kaliro District received services14,046 people in Iganga District received services395 units of blood were collectedMeet ALEX27,808 FREE HEALTH SERVICES1918

HIGHER EDUCATION & TRAININGSHINEIn November 2022, we celebrated the first graduating class of Musana Vocational High School. This was the first group of students to attend Musana schools from primary through high school. When we noticed that many of our graduates who were on scholarship had aspirations of pursuing higher education but lacked the necessary funding to do so, we recognized a new need. These graduates had incredible potential to become doctors, engineers, lawyers, or influencers of policy, where they could create significant change in their communities. As a result, in 2023, we evolved our monthly giving program, Shine. All Shine donations now go toward higher education scholarships and training for high-achieving students otherwise lacking funding. MUSANA LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Training leaders to advance Musana Uganda’s vision of breaking the cycle of poverty and dependency is a top priority as we look to the future. As Musana continues to grow, it is essential that we are developing leaders who believe in our shared vision, mission, and values. Cultivating socially responsible leaders dedicated to uplifting their community is essential for the sustainability of Musana’s model. In 2022, we launched Musana Leadership Development Program, and in 2023, we held three leadership conferences at Musana’s Sol View Conference Center in Iganga, training over 55 current and future leaders.ALUMNI REUNIONA reunion was organized for the inaugural 80 children who were the initial beneficiaries of Musana in 2008. More than 50 of the original 80 attended, providing a wonderful opportunity to witness their growth over the years and discover their contributions to community transformation. The event included moments of reconnection, storytelling, sharing of their current community involvement, leadership workshops, and plenty of photo opportunities! Since the reunion, Musana alumni have taken the initiative among themselves to organize monthly meetings to keep in touch, to provide each other support and encourage-ment, and to strategize ways to mobilize their community to continue on the path of transformation.HELPING MOTHERS & BABIES SURVIVEThe spike in pregnancy rates over the past few years further exposed an already dire need for access to quality healthcare. The Helping Mothers & Babies Survive program educates birth attendants in neonatal resuscitation, man-agement of bleeding after birth, preeclampsia, and endomysium. In 2023, 24 students received their completion certificate, and as part of the program, they continue to receive mentorship and support from midwives working at Musana Community Hospitals.Musana’s mantra over the years has become okusoma tekukoma, meaning “LEARNING NEVER ENDS” in Luganda, a local language of Uganda. The road from our beginning in 2008 to today has been full of challenges and learning curves. Our progress in so many ways has come from trusting in God and asking for His clarity and strength to make fearless decisions when a reroute is needed. As a result, we are continuously listening to the evolving needs of our communities to nd solutions to barriers standing in the way of efective development. 2120
