I think I m Ready I think I m ready been locked up in the house way too long a lyric from Beyonc s Freakum dress comes to mind as I launch this special project One that I ve been working on for years I say only I in this statement because trust me the vision of it all comes from my vision and I m pretty dag on proud of it I take nothing away from my partner my husband and my friend He is truly my Superman that came along one day and has turned my world upside down MULA would not exist without him Our lives in business are crazy eventful and fun As well our personal lives never leaves a dull moment It s a roller coaster ride and I m always looking for my seatbelt and he s the one with his hands in the air on the front row That is why releasing the MULA concept is overwhelming scary yet exciting This lookbook is a multi concept to showcase our businesses the things we love our passion for couples and some personal notes Each layout will feature a design scheme that I ve created and many of our featured projects
We will also highlight other couples to showcase many different styles of marriage As a couple who works together it s tough This magazine almost missed the deadline because of an argument over a bathroom vanity Yikes However it s moments like these that make us real and more than a pretty picture As you will see we love to take photos and get styled I hope and pray to always be transparent enough to share beautiful moments and growing pains They both are a part of life They are both a part of marriage I certainly hope that you enjoy all there is to read and see but most importantly I hope that you are inspired to motivate uplift love and agree with your partners Even if you are single I pray you can find MULA philosophy with your loved ones and friends We re here for it all So ok I think I m ready so let s go February 2020 LaKisa I d like to bring some extra special attention to heart disease for the month of February Heart disease is the number one killer of black women Early in 2019 I found myself in a very alarming situation in which I learned I have developing heart disease or a heart condition Wow I m a black women early 40 s and I just didn t think this would be happening to me I m still working through what this means for me I certainly didn t see this coming at my age and the truth is most of us don t The signs and symptoms are truly a silent killer for black women I learned recently that Star Jones celebrity and attorney is an advocate for women s heart health She thought she was in good health in loosing a substantial amount of weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle However in 2010 she then felt shortness of breath and had pre empted open heart surgery to avoid going into cardiac arrest Read her story online I truly want to encourage ladies to do better so we can live better Let s go red like we ve gone pink There are more breast cancer survivors than heart diseases survivors That s a fact Go check it out
THE STYLE OF MARRIAGE In our lookbook we ll share many of our color palettes d cor schemes and design collections by LaKisa Taylor Photos by M Harris Studios A friend sent me a text one day asking me three questions about marriage Question one what s the one thing you wish you had known before marriage Question two what s the one biggest lessons you ve learned since getting married Question three what s one of the best things about being married After reading the text I muted the phone About an hour later I read the text to Amu and he simply replied hmph I love my friend and maybe her thought was after two years in those two must still be in love So I ll get them to answer these questions Marriage is tough and to what extent depends on the two individuals involved Let me be very clear we love each other but marriage is designed to test each and every vow that was made That s one thing you should know before marriage Since we skipped the big wedding day experience we have only relied on our love to bond us and God to carry us through I consider the way our nuptials took place as God s plan for us The lack of the fairytale moment has forced us to jump right into the process of seeking oneness with each other Something that cannot happen until a vow is made He said the best thing about marriage is sleep Wait What
And for the best thing about being married I asked Amu to give me an answer He says it s sleep I ve asked on three occasions He said sleep Why Because he was trying to get some sleep I m going to take liberty and translate that into he means he s relaxed and comfortable It s a truth that I can agree with Even when I think about escaping marriage and yes many have these thoughts I m grateful to have someone to try life with Starting over seems unimaginable When I think about it sleep is one of the best things We actually have a hard time sleeping apart It s likely the part we miss the most when we re not together We have issues Our legs have to touch or his arm resting on mine I can t tell all the secrets but our sleeping choreography is a show all by itself However it is necessary to how effective we are the next day So sleep as the answer it is It wasn t our goal to ignore the questions presented I was agitated with Amu at the time he was sick and not feeling like participating and we both looked a hot mess She wanted the answer in video format So oh well maybe next time Oddly enough that picture that I just painted well that s marriage At least that s how it is with us sometimes We love to get dressed up be stylish and have fun with fashion We also do not take ourselves that seriously but enjoy that others like our photos and selfies We re humble grateful and down to earth We try to enjoy life and we push through the hard stuff So this is our marriage style and the best responses we can offer for our marriage today Marriage may be back in style and real style is very personal So marriage should also be personal and true to the ones who are in the relationship There s nonconformity just like style marriage reflects who you truly are It also should reflect the couple that you both desire to be

26 When it comes to STAGING I take five By LaKisa Last year I began staging for my clients putting my decor and planning skills to great use Decor and design are very familiar terrtorties for me So its been something fun that I ve been able to 33 implement as an added line of service Take One Minimalism is in no matter what decor style I use this approach typically works to get the job done Take Two I select decor themes based on market and ideal renter buyer Yes we re staging rentals these days as well There is a method to it all Take Three Staging is where perfectionism matters 41 and helps relieve my need to deal with perfectionism in therapy Everyone wants to see a place that looks and feels perfect 56 Take Four It s not about matching its about coordinating Decor elements should compliment each other not look identical Take Five You should definitely hire a professional to maximize the return on your investment So give me a call 63

Time to take action Sometimes there are a lot of things that we don t want to change but we need to change I certainly have my own personal list and I have a list for my wife Let me change that to a wish list for my wife I believe these changes will benefit us as a unit Even if they are just personal development changes When I am the best man that I can be I will be the best man for her Not only that I know there s an extra added bonus that when I m at my best she subsequently is at her best This works in the reverse as well The result is the most effective for our family and our businesses The idea is to become one and so in partnership change is necessary for us both Having a partner is truly a blessing and I pray that God will continue to see us through our growth with each other Amu
ETON LEVART MADE US LOVE ABSOLUTELY One of our most favorite things to do as a couple is to go to a local hotel for a staycation Sometimes we ve chosen to stay very close to home near the nation s capital to take in the historic sites museums and monuments of Washington DC Other times we ve taken a short drive maybe a an hour and half hour away for scenic views relaxation and more Just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge we found ourselves in Old Town Alexandria to enjoy the quaint waterfront district with restaurants music and shopping It felt good to just enjoy life at a leisure pace It s also a very dog friendly town so our pup could come along The Alexandrian Autograph Collection Hotel located on King Street in Old Town was the perfect choice Coincidently the design and feel perfectly fit our Mula lifestyle We love hotels with character a touch of luxury and style Overall the atmosphere felt personal It was cozy and quaint Most importantly the comfort provided help us to truly relax
