history of Mount Dora halfVickie Blate discovered Mount Dora's rolling hillswhile training for the Boston Marathon and quicklyrecognized them as a hidden gem for Floridadistance runners. Inspired by the hills’ resemblanceto Boston’s terrain, she designed a course that led tothe creation of the Mount Dora Marathon. Theinaugural race in 2012 featured a marathon, halfmarathon, and 5K. Later, Vickie partnered with race director andphilanthropist Chris Batista, and together theyshaped the event into what it is today: one ofFlorida’s most festive holiday races, the Mount DoraHalf Marathon & 5K. 4
