Before you leave RAISING YOUR MISSION BUDGETIt's NEVER too early to start! Many people find mission trip fundraisingintimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! In fact, gathering financial support provides a way forothers to join and participate in God’s work inthe world. If we view fundraising as anopportunity to invite people to become a part ofwhat God is doing and will do through the trip, then it becomes much less awkward andintimidating.14Here are a few ideas get to get you andyour group going:Hold A Group Fundraiser:Auction, Chili cook-off, Dodge balltournament, Game night, Pancake breakfast,5K, garage sellTry service-oriented fundraising:"Takeout" dinner, Flower delivery, GiftwrappingMaybe something different:Collection boxes that be set out in businesses, number envelopes 1 to 50. Have people pickone of the envelopes and return it the nextweek with the corresponding dollar amountinside. This can raise up to $1,347! Remember to say THANK YOU toeveryone who helps. A handwrittennote is even better.

Page 19

15On the average, $2500 can be raised through well-written letters sent to about 75 people whoknow you: family members and friendsSpread the word widely; don't limit the letters to Christian friends and family.Send thank-you letters for every financial gift. Sometimes, "thank you" notes will even bringfollow-up financial gifts1.2.3.SENDING SUPPORT LETTERSDear (name of person or family),God has presented me with an amazing opportunity. WHILE YOUR HEREOTHER THINGS TO KNOW WHILE HEREHow to Handle Belongings:Please keep your passport in a secure location on your person any time you leave the teamhousing area, unless otherwise instructed by your leadership or hosts. Please do not bring or wear any expensive jewelry or accessories which appear costly. Pleaseavoid removing large sums of cash or credit cards from your wallet or purse while in full publicview. These activities invite theft. Take care not to leave your belongings unattended while on the work site or on outreach. Wedo not wish to tempt anyone into a theft situation. Those living in rural Honduras, and conservative Hondurans, have traditionally held negativeviews about women wearing shorts or short skirts. We attempt to avoid any obstruction tosharing the gospel by eliminating any potential conflict of culture. If wearing a skirt, pleasemake sure the hem is at or below the knee. Capris are fine at or below the knee.Men are encouraged not to wear shorts on the work site, while on outreaches, or during anytrips away from the team housing area. Cultural Interactions & Exploring Your Environment:Honduran people tend to be physically warm and “touchy” in their greetings. Please do not beoffended if you are embraced by a Honduran or greeted with a quick kiss on the cheek. Theseare traditional and normal for welcoming and greeting situations. We encourage you to speakwith Hola Hope about any action which makes you uncomfortable. We desire your trip to bepositive and blessed. We respectfully request that no gifts (monetary or otherwise) be given to any Honduranwithout first sharing your desire to do so with Hola Hope. Please allow us to share our manyyears of experience with you in regard to this area. We desire to see you be a blessing and tobe blessed. Allowing us to guide you in this area will ensure a Christ-honoring outcome. We ask that you refrain from sharing your phone number, name, or social media info withnationals. As your hosts, we cannot guarantee the motives of each person who might desireyour contact information.19

Page 24

WHILE YOUR HEREMedical & Dietary Topics:Each volunteer guest is required to carry our international medical insurance. Please inform Hola Hope of any food allergy or any special dietary needs prior to your arrival. We will not be able to provide accommodation if you inform us after you arrive. Please inform us early on of any medical needs or bothersome symptoms you mightexperience. The earlier we are informed of a possible medical need, the more quickly we canhelp deal with the issue and prayerfully avoid any major medical eventsIn the event that you experience diarrhea, (which is common) please let Hola Hope know. Wecan help best determine if a doctor or a prescription is necessary.Things to Avoid:We understand that the living conditions are probably outside what is normal for most peopleserving. However do your best to be appreciative of what the nationals offer through theirkindness and hospitality. Please eat any food churches may prepare for you under the supervision of Hola Hope.Do not complain or grumble-- it will always rob you of your joy and spreads division. If you dohave a valid concern please approach your team leader or Hola Hope directly. DO NOT DRINK THE WATER! Water here is extremely dangerous. Bottled water or filteredwater will be provided. (Tip: You can bring a LifeStraw Water Bottle for additional protection)Photography and the use of your cameras:We get it. You love to take picture. We do too, but we ask you to be considerate.ASK YOURSELF, "If someone took a picture of me like that, would I want it on the internet?Shared?" We never want to exploit or make someone feel bad if they stumble across theirpicture on the internet.DO NOT PIN YOUR EXACT LOCATION! Drugs, gangs and sex trafficking are very real here. Wewould never want to endanger the community you are serving. (You may pin Honduras, butnothing more)Please feel free to tag @Hola-Hope in your pictures and stories- we enjoy seeing your trip toldthrough your eyes. 19
