Message from our CEOHello Community,We’re crossing the nish line on our latest construcon, and guess what’s opening later this month? That’s right – Hannah’s House! We are wrapping up this amazing project which will provide housing for single women and women with their children in our New Life Program. What a great connecon to open the Hannah’s House doors for occupaon during the very monthwhen we celebrate mothers on Mother’s Day. God’s provision has been evident in such an amazing way throughout this endeavor at each stage of the process. His blessings have worked through the generous support of so many people in this wonderful community. As we make this grand opening a reality, I want to say thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus! Adding 65 addional beds for such a vulnerable populaon is so amazing! I was homeless. That’s when I was brought to the Modesto Gospel Mission, and it’s truly been a blessing ever since. I stayed at the Mission for 16 months. Before I became homeless, I was working in retail and accounng while raising my son. But due to domesc disputes and some other issues, I was pushed into homelessness.During my time at the Mission, I gained more than just shelter. I learned paence and compassion—for others, and for myself. I met some genuinely kind people who reminded me that there is sll goodness in the world. Watching others move forward gave me hope that I could too. The sta has COVER STORYbeen so helpful and friendly, walking with me every step of the way on my journey to nd housing. My son is doing much beer now. He loved being at the Mission, especially the youth center—it was his favorite place. It was a safe and joyful space for him, and they truly took great care of the kids.Last week, we moved into our new place. It’s our own 2-bedroom home, and it feels like a fresh start. I’m so thankful for this place, and I’m excited about Hannah’s House opening. It’s going to be a safe and supporve home for women and children--just like this Mission has been for me and my son.- MaryI gained more than just shelter; I learned patience & compassion.I gained more than just shelter; I learned patience & compassion.BACK TO SCHOOLJULY 26SATURDAY9:30AM-12:30PM1400 Yosemite Blvd, Modesto, CA 95354mymission.org/kicksforkids

TESTIMONYMy 6-year old son and I came to the Modesto Gospel Mission broken, afraid, and completely lost. My past was lled with pain and mistakes. I was an Army wife for ve years, but my marriage ended because of my addicon—and my son, Gage, was left deeply traumatized. I became homeless in Eugene, Oregon—couch-surng, longboarding, and just trying to survive in the freezing cold. I didn’t know where I was going, but God did. He led me to Sacramento, where I remained homeless for another ve years. It was the hardest season of my life. Then I got pregnant with Gage. It was a high-risk pregnancy. I was six months along when they removed all my teeth. I bounced between three shelters and eventually tried staying with my father, but that turned toxic. Out of desperaon, I gave my son to DCS in Arizona. Aer that, everything kept falling apart—my landlord died, “I may be a broken vessel—but I’m still a vessel for the Lord.”“I may be a broken vessel—but I’m still a vessel for the Lord.”my partner turned to alcohol, and I turned to meth and fentanyl. But by God’s grace, we found our way to the Mission. It was breakfast time when we arrived, and they welcomed us immediately oering jackets, clothes, a warm shower, and compassion. That day, the Mission became our place of redemption. They have cared for the fatherless—my son—and for the widow—me. The Mission is more than a shelter. It’s a program that reprogrammed my life. I’ve learned how to live again. How to love. How to hope.Today, I wake up every morning and pray, “Use me, God. I may be a broken vessel, but I’m sll a vessel for You.” To everyone at the Modesto Gospel Mission—thank you from the boom of my heart. You’ve given us more than help. You’ve given us a future. And to my Savior, Jesus Christ—thank You for never giving up on me. - Cassandra

May brings with it the gentle beauty of spring and the special celebraon of Mother’s Day. While this verse specically describes a wife and mother, it is broader in that it reects the quiet strength, grace, and hope that dene so many women who guide and nurture those around them.A mother’s strength oen shows up behind the scenes—early morning prayers, late-night worry, countless sacrices made out of love. Her dignity isn’t found in tles or recognion, but in her faithfulness. And even when tomorrow feels uncertain, she keeps going—rooted in God’s promises, holding onto hope not just for herself, but for her children. This month, as we honor mothers and mother gures, let’s pause and recognize the quiet heroes among us. Let’s oer words of encouragement, gestures of love, and the gi of rest to those who are clothed in strength and dignity. Whether your own mother is near or far, here or in heaven, take a moment to give thanks—and maybe be that strength for someone else, too.Happy Mothers Day!We are in need!
