THE TERRAINWhat’s it like to land in a helicopter on the top of a mountain and not see anything but rugged peaks for miles and miles? With 500 square miles of tenure in the Canadian Rockies, bordered by the Selkirks, Monashees and Kinbasket Lake above Mica Dam, Mica’s terrain is one of, if not, the most exciting tenures in the heliskiing world. With iconic, classic jagged peaks and world-famous champagne snow; the combination makes for brilliant, thrilling skiing all throughout the area we fly and ski in.

We have an incomparable safety record, and we only hire the best of the best for the guides’ team. The team, lead since 2006 by Shane Kroeger, are personable, dynamic, fun, incredibly experienced, smart, and most importantly, take safety very seriously. They want to ski, and they want to ski a lot, but they want to do it in a way that ensures that each guest is always experiencing our terrain in the safest way possible. We have a longstanding partnership with Arrow Helicopters which has further allowed us to build a strong, trusting, team, predicated on this shared priority of safety. Every night the guides’ team meets to discuss the day to ensure that every “tomorrow” is as exciting as possible.THE GUIDESOur guides and safety record are what we pride ourselves on the most.

THE LODGEHow can you pull off luxury in the backcountry? With imagination and innovation. Our lodge is set on a hillside overlooking the stunning Kinbasket Lake. Each morning the view gives us a new visual spectacle, whether it’s steam rising o the semi-frozen lake, or bluebird skies showing o the surrounding peaks, guests often brave the cold to enjoy their coee outside on the deck (and take photos). The lodge is three floors, equipped with 4 single rooms and 8 double rooms, as well as the adjacent private chalet, allowing us to accommodate 20 guests at a time. Set against a wall of windows, the dining room gives mealtime the feeling of floating in midair. In the Boot Room, individual leather cubbies equipped with personal boot dryers and hangers house your wet gear for the week. And, of course, the bar is always fully stocked with the best beers and wines we can fly in.

THE PROGRAMWe offer two styles of programs: THE CLASSIC:The Classic program, based on vertical metres, runs out of the main lodge, with A-star helicopters and oers 4 groups of 4 skiers, and 1 guide per group.THE PRIVATE:The Private program, based on helicopter time, runs out of the Chalet with a Bell 407 and oers both a lead guide and tail guide to the 4 guests. The day typically starts around 8:30 am, after breakfast, and lunch is served in the field. Depending on the time of year, the groups return at the end of the day for an après-ski service in the dining room and cold beer on the house.

O U R GUARANTEEHistorically Mica has experienced very few down days, but they do occur on occasion. If, due to weather conditions or mechanical failure, we are not able to provide you with the opportunity to ski the minimum vertical guaranteed in your specific package, you will be oered either a refund or credit at the current rate charged for extra vertical.

MICA FAQWhere are you located? We are located 150 kms north of Revelstoke, BC, Canada. In other words, “the middle of nowhere.” Getting here requires either flying to Kelowna and taking our company shuttle to staging where we heli everyone over the lake to the lodge, or coordinating a private heli transfer from Kelowna Calgary or Revelstoke directly to the lodge. How many Down Days in a season? As we still haven’t figured out how to control the weather, we are forced to ground the machines in the case of bad storms or visibility. However, we have a very low number of down days in the season, and have a backup snowcat in the case we can’t fly to access the terrain around the lodge. Usually if it’s snowing so hard we can’t fly the skiing around the lodge is excellent. How many runs are there in a day, on average?Depending on conditions and abilities, you can expect to ski 10-14 runs per full ski day. How many days in the tour are we actually skiing? When you arrive to the lodge in the afternoon, we immediately do a safety training, which includes learning how to use your transceiver, probe, shovel, radio and airbag (all provided by us). This allows us to get out skiing immediately the next morning. The Private group can sometimes get out for a few runs in the afternoon after their safety training. On the day that you depart, you will ski a half day, come back to the lodge for a hot meal and shower and then transfer out in the afternoon. So - if you are here on a 7 day tour, you will ski 6.5 days. What is the lodge like? Can I have a private room?Perhaps we’re biased, but the lodge is the perfect mix of luxury and comfort. In the main lodge, we have 4 single rooms and 8 double rooms. Each room has a unique view of the lake and surrounding mountains and a private bathroom. If you would like to request a private room, please call us. The rate is an additional $399 CAD / night. When is the best time of the year to come?It depends, largely, on what kind of skiing you like to do (and when we have availability). Typically, December has the floaty, bottomless blower pow, with shorter days and cozier nights. January and February are tree-skiing heaven. March gets us the longer days and the bluebird wide open stu, and April is consistently a mixed bag of bluebird and storm powder (the temperatures dip and we always end up with an epic couple of powder days). But then again, we are dealing with Mother Nature, so you need to be prepared for just about any kind of conditions at any time. How do I get on the Priority List for next year? Please reach out and let us know that you would like to be on the Priority List (Info@MicaHeli.com). We are typically booked up a year in advance, so being on our Priority List is the best way to know when there is availability. You will always be the first to know.
