2020 THE D I F F ER ENCE Grace in Isolation When God allowed the Babylonians to overcome the Israelites they were taken captive for 70 years God s instruction to them can be seen in Jeremiah 29 5 as He told them to build houses and live in them plant gardens and eat their produce He then said in verse 7 to seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile and pray to the Lord on its behalf for in its welfare you will find your welfare you made possible When we look back on 2020 what will we remember Did we wait for the pandemic to subside or did we plant gardens Thanks to your support we planted 743 gardens providing food for thousands of families living in remote villages We also trained them to sell their crops at market for a good price and coached women on how to save money through savings programs so their children can attend school When we look back on 2020 what will we remember Did we wait for the pandemic to subside or did we plant gardens In this year s annual report you will see how God moved in the midst of the pandemic He protected the 50 villages we serve and as a result very few became sick from COVID 19 Due to the pandemic we were able to serve even more villagers as we provided hygiene training sanitation stations and COVID 19 prevention kits for villagers beyond those involved in our programs for a total of 45 000 served in 2020 Yes during our exile from the pandemic we prayed to the Lord on behalf of these villages and we saw His faithfulness In Jeremiah 29 11 ESV God makes a promise to the Israelites and says Report 45 000 VILLAGERS It has seemed to many like the pandemic will never end but it will surely end far earlier than the 70 years the Israelites were exiled That s grace We also learned that we weren t in a holding pattern but rather a season of trusting God in a big way for provision protection and abundant fruit for villagers physical mental and most importantly their spiritual needs And He was faithful We saw hundreds of sex trafficked girls in Bali return home as spas were shut down due to the pandemic Again grace Many of these young girls have decided to stay home re enter school and attend core values training that teaches them they are a masterpiece in God s eyes God rescued them as He heard our prayers I M PAC T impacted 65 1 018 Churches equipped new gardens 1 896 women and young girls trained in core values and victimization prevention 20k people now have access to clean water year round For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans for welfare and not for evil to give you a future and a hope We give thanks to our Lord that He allowed us to bring hope and a good future to 45 000 and are deeply grateful for each partner who supported us in 2020 God is in the business of redeeming lives and He is always faithful I pray you saw His goodness in your own life in 2020 and that it encouraged you For His Glory 2 MISSIONHOPE ORG Elisa L Goodwin MISSION HOPE CEO 12 760 INDIVIDUALS received COVID 19 Prevention Support 3

Active Ministry Exploration Phase Legacy Project WHERE F LY away We Work BY JEMIMA Indonesian Field Officer CHINA NEPAL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC NICARAGUA PAPUA CONGO BALI LOMBOK RESTORING HOPE EMPOWERING VILLAGES RESTORING HOPE EMPOWERING VILLAGES With your help Mission Hope equips churches and leaders in remote unreached villages to bring about holistic sustainable change for God s glory What s Inside FLY AWAY 05 4 With your help Mission Hope equips churches and leaders in remote unreached villages to bring about holistic sustainable change for God s glory THE POWER OF HER VOICE 10 VISION TRIPS 13 GRACE IN THE STORM 06 FINANCE REPORT 11 CELEBRATING BEN 14 THRIVING LIVELIHOODS 08 WHY WE SUPPORT MH 12 SERVING WITH MH 15 MISSIONHOPE ORG Thank You I t is not easy being an Indonesian field officer tasked with helping teens realize their potential their value and their ability to dream This is because teens from the villages we serve typically lack opportunities Many are faced with tough choices due to poverty such as marrying at a young age or dropping out of school to work When I first started leading character classes for teenagers in 2019 I wanted to focus on big issues like lack of access to education domestic violence and gender equality I wanted to encourage teens to have opinions to speak out and to let their voices be heard After all these are some of the main purposes of this project At one point during one of my first classes I emphasized the fact that each person is valuable and received some blank stares One student asked What does valuable mean This stopped me in my tracks I was speechless How was I supposed to teach these teens to dream big think about their futures and know their worth when they do not even understand what it means to be valuable It became my mission to let hope grow out of these situations COVID 19 however has made it especially tough for teenage girls Girls who were working in spas were able to return to the village However with no source of income many feel that they have no choice but to marry young in order to find security These girls are wary about returning to school because of how far behind they are We have been pouring into these girls Through discussions on the different topics and issues mentioned above in our character building class teens have opened up and are now expressing their opinions They have become more confident more positive and more forward thinking They now understand the importance of taking care of themselves They realize the dangers of child marriage They realize what they can do to better themselves They now dare to dream about their futures I have come to the realization that teens can overcome poverty with their hopes and dreams They can soar above their circumstances Lift your wings and fly away Hold your dreams you ll find a way You can touch the sky Shine among the stars No matter who you are Believe in yourself and fly From the song Fly Away by Abisai an indie singer and song writer from Jemima s hometown Thank You 5

Pastor Alvaro our church trainer visited communities with Dr Javier and ministered to the sick and suffering praying for them comforting them and sharing words of faith and hope Pastor Alvaro spoke about his experience in the communities after the hurricanes It is something that changes the life in the hardest circumstances that people pass through there is a huge opportunity to present the Gospel and minister the presence of God GRACE in the storm BY ROGER DROST N i c a ra g u a P r o g ra m M a n a g e r H urricane Iota barreled toward Nicaragua s east coast in mid November making landfall with 150 mile an hour winds and following nearly the same path as hurricane Eta two weeks earlier According to experts having two Category 4 hurricanes strike within 15 miles in less than two weeks hasn t occurred in nearly 170 years The damage from wind and flooding was devastating to many of the communities Mission Hope serves in Nicaragua Roofs were torn from homes and some homes were completely destroyed by wind and flooding leaving families to take shelter under sheets of plastic and debris left by the storm Also water sources were contaminated and most 6 MISSIONHOPE ORG crops destroyed leaving the community with a scarce supply of food The cacao crop and trees the communities most lucrative source of income were destroyed as well During this severe crisis Mission Hope MH provided relief and aid to the region s communities Some families took refuge in MH s base camp Dr Javier who staffs the MH clinic treated respiratory and stomach illnesses among children and directed efforts to disinfect wells and chlorinate home drinking water MH agricultural staff were also key in organizing relief efforts The MH cargo boat the Miss Canton was used by the municipal government to help deliver roofing materials to repair homes of a person who visits these communities I learned that during the most painful moments and in the hardest circumstances that people pass through there is a huge opportunity to present the Gospel and minister the presence of God since people are responsive and very needy During those post hurricane days Mission Hope mounted a two phase relief effort MH staff prepared packets of relief materials in the capital city and transported them by boat to the communities and distributed them The distribution efforts were all the more impressive as relief supplies reached as far as remote homesteads set far back in the jungle Going forward Mission Hope has plans to help develop community resilience to natural disasters Two tactics include deforestation and the construction of seed banks small silos that can store seed and crops safely so they are available after a disaster We will also provide gravity fed water filters so clean water is available after severe flooding Though these communities have endured so much and still have a long way to go in rebuilding their lives homes and gardens they are so grateful for the support they have received Many remain steadfast in their belief that God will bless their new gardens in the coming months What a beautiful example of faith and perseverance in the midst of such storms Please keep these communities in your prayers Thank You 7

CYCLE OF Livelihood Open THRIVING livelihoods BY BROCK BOLEMAN S e n i o r D i r e c t o r o f G l o b a l P r o g ra m s I n the villages Mission Hope serves many people are unable to meet their most basic needs for reasons beyond their control These areas have high levels of poverty where people earn less than 1 90 per day extreme food insecurity high levels of disease and malnutrition and exploitation of women and children In these areas families are forced to live week toweek and the concept of saving money is foreign Most families situations are so desperate that they do not have the luxury of thinking about the future One of Mission Hope s goals is to provide families with hope for the future In part we do this through our livelihoods projects As is explained below microenterprise opportunities have the ability to grow into vibrant projects with the right direction and resources from our teams We have a three step approach to fighting poverty and hunger First we provide village members with the training seeds and tools necessary for F A I T H Gardens Food Always in the Home After teaching families how to grow crops specifically tailored for their particular climate and local market families have nutritious food to feed their families and sell at market Second we establish microfinance savings groups 8 MISSIONHOPE ORG Typically these groups are made up of 15 25 people who commit to saving a certain amount of money each week which is stored in a bank box Through the program we teach lessons on biblical stewardship of money relationships with one another and relationships with God At the end of three months each person s money is returned to them At this point participants celebrate having more money than ever before These savings can help impact long term outcomes for these families in a variety of ways such as providing for their kid s education At this point participants celebrate having more money than ever before These savings can help impact long term outcomes FAITH GARDENS SAVINGS GROUPS MICROENTERPRISE F A I T H Gardens help provide nutritious Food Always In The Home and additional income Savings groups teach families to save their additional income for their current needs and long term goals After building up savings families can start small businesses that provide sustainable income and benefit the entire community ganic palm sugar production baking pastries catfish farming and growing extremely profitable cash crops We teach families how to effectively execute these projects so that they may become successful businesspeople In one area we serve people were producing unrefined palm sugar as a main source of income The price fetched for 1kg of unrefined palm sugar ranges from 0 50 to 1 00 We determined that it would be much more profitable for these families to produce organic refined palm sugar which fetches a price of up to 7 00 per kg So we mobilized families to start a refined sugar microenterprise Further we also brought agents from the Department of Health and Home Industry Licensing to test the quality of what these families learned to produce After passing inspection these families were given official licenses to begin producing and distributing refined palm sugar Now these families businesses are much more profitable with a 700 increase per kilogram Ultimately the savings groups create investment opportunities that have the ability to boost the local economy and create new jobs This provides families with a way to climb out of poverty Along with organic palm sugar other microenterprise examples include cacao chocolate cashews catfish farming chilies and pastries We are assessing many more innovative microenterprises across the countries we serve As these projects develop there are opportunities for growth and bringing in our U S partners to invest in transformational impact and hope for the future Finally now that families are no longer living weekto week in extreme poverty and hunger we can look to the future with market based innovative solutions We provide entrepreneurial trainings to participants to help them establish and grow businesses We also help connect participants to markets so that their products return the best profit possible Examples of microenterprises include or Thank You 9

2020 FINANCE Report THE POWER OF her voice B Y A D E LY N B O L E M A N Senior Manager of Donor Experience 16 7 EXP EN S E 1 800 699 77 OVERVIEW M eet Anah a 17 year old senior high school student living within one of the villages Mission Hope serves in Indonesia For years Anah has been extremely timid and has avoided the spotlight at all costs Recently however she learned about Mission Hope s Children s Assembly work Curious to learn more Anah decided to attend an orientation for the program Through the orientation Anah learned that Mission Hope utilizes this assembly to guide empower and mobilize hundreds of youth to fight against child marriage The hope is that these children will grow to understand that they deserve to be heard and use their voices to influence local legislation relating to child marriage This is important because the rate of child marriage remains extremely high in some of the villages Mission Hope serves in Indonesia In fact within these villages roughly one third of girls between the ages of 12 19 are married off and have to forego education to care for their husbands and children Moreover they are susceptible to domestic violence and 10 MISSIONHOPE ORG PROGRAMS divorce which affect their children as well Oftentimes their children experience poverty neglect malnourishment childhood trauma and lack of education This cycle is perpetuated by culture and a lack of knowledge on child rights After learning about the assembly Anah felt called to join this cause and was trained to speak in front of crowds on issues relating to early child marriage Despite her previous fear of speaking in front of others Anah soon found herself in front of her peers sharing encouraging messages about the importance of staying in school each child s value and worth and the right to say no Eventually Anah was asked to become a moderator for meetings about the enactment of an anti child marriage law for her region Needless to say Anah was intimidated She knew her audience would include various government groups village heads religious leaders and community leaders She approached one of Mission Hope s team members and questioned Can I speak in front of the village officials I am just a child Would they listen to me Our team reminded her that she had been empowered and equipped to speak in front of these leaders and that her voice was just as important as any other voice This motivated Anah to face her fears and stand up for herself and so many others Anah wanted to make her parents proud be an example for her classmates and prove to herself that she could now be an advocate for her community She became just that and her voice was heard The meeting proved to be a huge success and the local regulation against child marriage has been ratified Consultations with local village heads are now taking place so that information about the new regulation can be properly disseminated Anah s growth through the program is invaluable and we are incredibly proud of the courage she showed It is her hope that her village will continue to listen to children so that they can freely contribute their thoughts and ideas on social causes 1 381 025 MINISTRY ADVANCEMENT 282 366 OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATIVE 137 308 ASSETS 144 623 LIABILITIES 3 796 NET ASSETS 140 827 TOTAL LIABILITIES NET ASSETS 144 623 REVENUE 1 490 708 EXPENSE 1 800 699 NET CHANGE 309 991 BEGINNING BALANCE ENDING BALANCE 391 930 81 939 There is a 135 500 PPP Loan that is included in revenue that is in the process of being forgiven Thank You 11

2020 FINANCE Report THE POWER OF her voice B Y A D E LY N B O L E M A N Senior Manager of Donor Experience 16 7 EXP EN S E 1 800 699 77 OVERVIEW M eet Anah a 17 year old senior high school student living within one of the villages Mission Hope serves in Indonesia For years Anah has been extremely timid and has avoided the spotlight at all costs Recently however she learned about Mission Hope s Children s Assembly work Curious to learn more Anah decided to attend an orientation for the program Through the orientation Anah learned that Mission Hope utilizes this assembly to guide empower and mobilize hundreds of youth to fight against child marriage The hope is that these children will grow to understand that they deserve to be heard and use their voices to influence local legislation relating to child marriage This is important because the rate of child marriage remains extremely high in some of the villages Mission Hope serves in Indonesia In fact within these villages roughly one third of girls between the ages of 12 19 are married off and have to forego education to care for their husbands and children Moreover they are susceptible to domestic violence and 10 MISSIONHOPE ORG PROGRAMS divorce which affect their children as well Oftentimes their children experience poverty neglect malnourishment childhood trauma and lack of education This cycle is perpetuated by culture and a lack of knowledge on child rights After learning about the assembly Anah felt called to join this cause and was trained to speak in front of crowds on issues relating to early child marriage Despite her previous fear of speaking in front of others Anah soon found herself in front of her peers sharing encouraging messages about the importance of staying in school each child s value and worth and the right to say no Eventually Anah was asked to become a moderator for meetings about the enactment of an anti child marriage law for her region Needless to say Anah was intimidated She knew her audience would include various government groups village heads religious leaders and community leaders She approached one of Mission Hope s team members and questioned Can I speak in front of the village officials I am just a child Would they listen to me Our team reminded her that she had been empowered and equipped to speak in front of these leaders and that her voice was just as important as any other voice This motivated Anah to face her fears and stand up for herself and so many others Anah wanted to make her parents proud be an example for her classmates and prove to herself that she could now be an advocate for her community She became just that and her voice was heard The meeting proved to be a huge success and the local regulation against child marriage has been ratified Consultations with local village heads are now taking place so that information about the new regulation can be properly disseminated Anah s growth through the program is invaluable and we are incredibly proud of the courage she showed It is her hope that her village will continue to listen to children so that they can freely contribute their thoughts and ideas on social causes 1 381 025 MINISTRY ADVANCEMENT 282 366 OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATIVE 137 308 ASSETS 144 623 LIABILITIES 3 796 NET ASSETS 140 827 TOTAL LIABILITIES NET ASSETS 144 623 REVENUE 1 490 708 EXPENSE 1 800 699 NET CHANGE 309 991 BEGINNING BALANCE ENDING BALANCE 391 930 81 939 There is a 135 500 PPP Loan that is included in revenue that is in the process of being forgiven Thank You 11
