What is Mezcal? Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from any type of agave. Agave Species Of the 200 species of agave, around 30 can be distilled to make mezcal. Difference between Mezcal & TequilaPlant: Mezcal can be made from any agave species while tequila can only bemade from Blue Weber agave. Production: The major production difference that influences the flavorprofile for both Tequila & Mezcal is the cooking of the agave. For Mezcal theagave plant is cooked in an earthen pit while tequila is typically baked inovens or autoclaves.
