20 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com FORWARDPNPUBLISHER’S NOTEMETROMODEGood things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are patient, and the best things come to those who don’t give up. -Unknownelcome to Metromode’s 20th Anni-versary Issue—a milestone that sig-nifies not just two decades of storytelling, advocacy, and celebration but also the resil-ience, courage, and vibrancy of Colorado’s LGBTQ+ community. When we launched in 2004, our mission was simple yet ambitious: to provide a platform for the voices, stories, and dreams of Colorado’s queer individu-als, families, and allies. As we look back on the past twenty years, it is abundantly clear that this mission has evolved, expanded, and flourished in ways we could have only dreamed of.Over the years, Metromode has chroni-cled an incredible journey—from marriage equality and evolving family dynamics to landmark legislation, activism, and cultural breakthroughs. We’ve featured the stories of queer entrepreneurs, artists, activists, ath-letes, and everyday heroes who have carved out spaces of belonging and reshaped what it means to be part of Colorado’s diverse fabric. These pages have carried the voices of those who continue to break boundaries, whether they are pushing for transgender rights, standing at the frontlines of health-care reform, or igniting conversations on the future of queer representation in media. The landscape for LGBTQ+ people in Colora-do has changed dramatically since our first issue hit the stands. With new laws, greater visibility, and more inclusive spaces, we’ve seen triumphs we once thought were a dis-tant hope. But we’ve also encountered chal-lenges that remind us why our work remains crucial. In an era where queer rights can feel as if they’re advancing and retracting simultaneously, it is essential to stand firm, unified, and engaged. Metromode has been, and will continue to be, a refuge for truth, a source of joy, and a beacon of advocacy as we navigate these complex times together. This anniversary issue is not only a tribute to our past but also a celebration of our future. Within these pages, you’ll find a curated mix of reflections from me, editorials from some of today’s most influential queer voices, and features that spotlight the community members shaping the next twenty years. We delve into the evolving landscape of queer identity and explore what’s on the horizon for LGBTQ+ people in Colorado and beyond. From profiles of leaders advocating for men-tal health in our community to artists who are redefining queer aesthetics, this issue captures the dynamism and diversity that have always been at the heart of Metromode.A magazine is only as strong as the commu-nity it serves, and we are deeply grateful to you—our readers, advertisers, writers, edi-tors, creatives, and allies—for being with us on this journey. Your support has allowed us to amplify voices that need to be heard, celebrate love in all its forms, and keep the spirit of Colorado’s LGBTQ+ community alive in print and online. As we step into our third decade, we are more committed than ever to representing the richness of queer lives and telling the stories that matter most. Here’s to twenty years of love, resilience, and pride—and to the countless more sto-ries waiting to be told. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Let’s continue to make Metromode a place where all identities and voices find a home. With gratitude and pride,William CameronOwner & Publisher20-Years of METROMODECelebrating Colorado’s Queer Voices and VisionW20th Anniversary IssueJosh Viola on the CoverArtwork: Aaron Lovett

GAGAY AGENDA 29 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025GAY AGENDAver the past years, the American political landscape has witnessed a curious and controversial phenomenon: the rise of queer Republicans. For many, this development raises perplexing questions about identity, ideology, and self-interest. How do individ-uals from a community that has historically been marginalized by conservative policies come to align themselves with a party that oen opposes their rights? The rise of queer Republicans forces a reckoning with the com-plex intersections of identity and politics in America.Organizations like the Log Cabin Republicans, which advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion within the GOP, have gained renewed visibility and influence. High-profile figures such as Caitlyn Jenner, former Trump administration oicial Richard Grenell, and news commentators like Christian Walker have openly embraced both their queer identity and Republican val-ues. This growing movement reflects a desire among some queer Americans to challenge the notion that sexual orientation or gender identity dictates political allegiance.topics in schools, and the party’s general op-position to expanding civil rights protections for queer individuals all underscore the dis-connect between queer Republicans and the broader community’s interests. So, why do some queer individuals align themselves with a party that many perceive as antithetical to their well-being? For some, the answer lies in a belief that identity should not be the sole determinant of political ail-iation. These queer Republicans argue that issues like fiscal conservatism, immigration policy, and gun rights, matter just as much, if not more, than LGBTQ+ rights. They contend that by participating in the GOP, they can in-fluence the party from within and push for more inclusive policies.POLITICS THESE QUEER REPUBLICANS ARGUE THAT ISSUES LIKE FISCAL CONSERVATISM, GUN RIGHTS, AND IMMIGRATION POLICY MATTER JUST AS MUCH, IF NOT MORE, THAN LGBTQ+ RIGHTS.RISE OF THEQUEER REPUBLICANAN ODD PARADOX CONSIDERING THE GOP’S EMBRACE OF ANTI-LGBTQ+ RHETORIC AND LEGISLATIONWords: William Cameron, Images: Elephants -William Cameron, Pins -RedbubbleFor these individuals, their conservative be-liefs oen revolve around issues like econom-ic freedom, limited government, and nation-al security. They argue that these principles should transcend identity politics and that the Republican Party, with its emphasis on individual liberty, can be a natural home for those values. However, the rise of queer Republicans has sparked intense debate, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Critics argue that aligning with the Republican Party is akin to voting against one’s own interests, given the GOP’s historical and ongoing opposition to LGBTQ+ rights. From resisting marriage equality to legislation that curtails transgen-der rights, the Republican Party’s track re-cord on queer issues are fraught with policies that many see as harmful to queer Americans. The paradox becomes even more stark when considering the GOP’s embrace of an-ti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation. 30 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com GAY AGENDAGA INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRSYet this strategy is not without its costs. By aligning with a party that frequently under-mines LGBTQ+ rights, queer Republicans risk alienating themselves from the broader queer community. Many queer activists view this alignment as a betrayal, arguing that it under-mines the collective struggle for equality and justice. The tension between individual polit-ical beliefs and the broader interests of the LGBTQ+ community highlights the complexity of identity politics in America. The rise of queer Republicans raises important questions about the future of political identity in America. As the lines between ideology and identity become increasingly blurred, the tra-ditional assumptions about voting behavior are being challenged. For the LGBTQ+ commu-nity, the presence of queer Republicans forces a diicult conversation about what it means to act in one’s own best interests and how to bal-ance personal beliefs with collective needs. In the end, the rise of queer Republicans re-flects the broader polarization and complexi-ty of American politics. It serves as a reminder that political identities are not monolithic and that the relationship between identity and ideology is far from straightforward. As the nation continues to grapple with these issues, the debate over queer Republicans will likely remain a contentious and thought-provoking aspect of the political discourse. MPUTIN’S WAR IS ADVANCING LGBTQ RIGHTS IN UKRAINEMANY HAVE BEGUN TO ASSOCIATE ANTI-GAY BIGOTRY WITH IMPERIAL AGGRESSIONWords: Michael Fox, Images: Wikimedia Commonsn a very surprising turn of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights has sparked a wave of progressive movements in Ukraine and other countries. As Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, many Ukrainians have begun to associate anti-gay bigotry with imperial aggression, leading to a notable shi in societal attitudes and legisla-tive action in support of queer rights.Under Putin’s rule, Russia has implemented several laws and policies that have severely restricted LGBTQ+ rights. The most notori-ous of these is the “gay propaganda” law, which bans the dissemination of information about “non-traditional sexual relationships” to minors. This law has been widely criticized for fostering a hostile environment for queer people in Russia, eectively criminalizing any public expression of queer identity and activism.Putin’s administration has portrayed LGBTQ+ rights as a threat to traditional Russian values and has oen used homophobic rhetoric to bolster nationalism and far-right conservative ideologies. This anti-LGBTQ+ stance has been coupled with a broader agenda of controlling civil society and silencing dissent. The Russian government’s actions have not only alienated the queer community within its borders but have also served as a stark contrast to the growing liberal movements in neighboring countries, especially Ukraine. In recent years, Ukraine has been distancing itself from Russia, politically and culturally. This separation has been accelerated by Rus-sia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine. As Ukrai-nians continue to resist Russian aggression, there has been a notable shi towards Euro-pean integration, democratic reforms, and human rights, including queer rights. The Ukrainian LGBTQ+ community and their allies have leveraged this momentum to advo-cate for greater rights and protections. Pride parades, which were once met with violence and resistance, are now more common and receive better protection from law enforce-ment. In 2023, Kyiv hosted one of its largest pride parades to date, with thousands of par-ticipants and strong support from civil society and international observers. The ongoing war has amplified this trend. 33 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025GAY AGENDAGAn recent years, corporate America has seen a significant shi in its commitment to Di-versity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Once viewed as essential for fostering inclu-sive workspaces and driving innovation, DEI programs are now being scaled back or aban-doned. This trend, reflective of broader polit-ical and cultural shis, raises troubling ques-tions about the future of workplace equity and the commitment of businesses to fostering diversity. The initial surge in DEI initiatives followed so-cial justice movements like Black Lives Matter and Me Too. Companies embraced DEI as a way to align with these causes, while signal-ing a progressive stance on race, gender, and inclusion. Major corporations introduced di-versity training, equity-focused hiring, and pledged support for marginalized groups, seeing DEI as both a moral and strategic busi-ness imperative to attract diverse talent and consumers. However, recent trends suggest that the en-thusiasm for DEI is fading. Several factors are contributing to this retrenchment. One signifi-cant driver is the shiing political climate, par-ticularly the rise of anti-DEI sentiment among conservative lawmakers and constituents. In states like Florida and Texas, legislation has been passed to limit the teaching of critical race theory in schools and curb diversity train-ing in public institutions, a move that reflects broader backlash against DEI eorts. Corpo-rations, especially those operating in conser-vative states, face pressure to distance them-selves from initiatives that might be perceived as politically charged or divisive.Economic concerns also play a role. As busi-nesses face inflation, rising interest rates, and potential recession, DEI programs, oen viewed as non-essential, become easy tar-gets for budget cuts. While some businesses argue DEI principles are integrated into their culture, the reduction or elimination of these programs sends a clear message: diversity and inclusion are no longer top priorities. Moreover, critics of DEI programs argue that these initiatives have failed to deliver the de-sired results. Despite years of diversity train-ing and awareness campaigns, data show that IA CORPORATE RETREAT FROM DEI INITIATIVESMOLSON COORS, FORD MOTOR COMPANY, JOHN DEERE, HARLEY-DAVIDSON, LOWE’S, ROWN-FORMAN, TRACTOR SUPPLY CO Words: William Cameron, Images: Adobe Stockprogress toward greater equity in corporate leadership and pay parity has been extremely slow. The war has unified Ukrainians around a shared identity that con-trasts sharply with Russian authoritarianism and intolerance. This growing sense of nation-al identity is increasingly inclusive of LGBTQ+ people, as many Ukrainians reject the notion that discrimination is part of their cultural or national fabric. Moreover, the bravery of LGBTQ+ soldiers fighting on the front lines has challenged ste-reotypes and increased visibility for the com-munity. Stories of queer individuals serving in the military and contributing to the defense of Ukraine have been widely covered in the me-dia, further normalizing their presence in soci-ety and fostering a sense of solidarity. This societal shi is beginning to reflect in Ukrainian lawmaking. In 2022, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a law banning employ-ment discrimination based on sexual orienta-tion and gender identity. There are also grow-ing calls for the legalization of same-sex civil partnerships, a move that seemed unthink-able a decade ago. While there is still significant opposition from conservative and religious groups, the tide appears to be turning. Many Ukrainians are recognizing that LGBTQ+ rights are part of the broader struggle for democracy, freedom, and human rights—a struggle that stands in stark contrast to Putin’s authoritarian and ho-mophobic regime.Putin’s aggressive policies and anti-LGBTQ+ stance have inadvertently fueled a movement in Ukraine that champions LGBTQ+ rights as part of a democratic, European future. As the war continues, this association between homophobia and imperial aggression only seems to strengthen, prompting a new chap-ter in Ukraine’s fight for equality and human rights. The struggle for queer rights in Ukraine is now seen not just as a fight for personal freedoms, but as a crucial part of the nation’s resistance against Russian oppression. Investments, whether in stocks, mutual funds, or retire-ment plans, are not just about securing our futures; they also have the power to influence corporate practices and societal values. In re-cent years, socially responsible investing (SRI) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing have gained momentum, with investors actively seeking opportunities that align with their values. One critical question to ask yourself in this context is: Do your invest-ments support LGBTQ+ equality?LGBTQ+ equality has become a vital social issue, with strides being made in terms of le-gal rights, social acceptance, and corporate policies. Yet, the fight for full equality is far from over. Discrimination, harassment, and disparities in pay and healthcare continue to plague the LGBTQ+ community in many parts of the world. Financial investments can either perpetuate or help eliminate these injustices. Knowing where your money is going is more important than ever.Corporations have an immense influence on the global social fabric, including how LGBTQ+ employees and consumers are treated. Many companies have publicly supported LGBTQ+ rights, such as by endorsing Pride events, adopting inclusive workplace policies, or championing equal healthcare benefits for same-sex partners. However, there’s oen a disconnect between corporate image and the realities behind the scenes. Some companies may present themselves as LGBTQ+ allies in their marketing, while their actual business practices tell a dierent story. This is where investors come into play. As a shareholder, you have a voice. By choosing to invest in companies that truly support LGBTQ+ equality, you’re voting with your dol-lars. Investors are increasingly aware of their power to demand corporate responsibility. Activist shareholders have pushed companies to adopt inclusive policies, improve diversity and equity eorts, and ensure that benefits like healthcare and parental leave are accessi-ble to all employees, regardless of sexual ori-entation or gender identity. The first step in aligning your investments with LGBTQ+ equality is understanding where your current investments stand. 37 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025GAY AGENDAGAhe LGBTQ+ community has long been cel-ebrated for its resilience, solidarity, and commitment to equality in the face of dis-crimination and oppression. From the fight for marriage equality to transgender rights, the LGBTQ+ movement has oen demonstrated the power of collective action and support. However, beneath this surface of unity, there are instances of toxicity within the community itself—episodes of hostility, exclusion, and in-fighting that raise questions about why mem-bers of an already marginalized group would turn on one another. This intra-community tension is a complex phenomenon, shaped by both external and internal forces. One of the primary reasons for this discord lies in the social hierarchies that exist within the LGBTQ+ community. Like in the broader world, issues of privilege, power, and identity play out in harmful ways. Despite shared experiences of marginalization, some individuals within the LGBTQ+ community benefit from intersecting privileges, such as race, socioeconomic status, or gender identi-ty, while others face compounded marginal-UNDERSTANDING INTRA-COMMUNITY TOXICITY AMONG LGBTQ+ PEOPLEEPISODES OF HOSTILITY, EXCLUSION, AND INFIGHTING RAISE QUESTIONS ON WHY WE ARE THIS WAY TO EACHOTHERWords: David Radino, Image: Adobe Stockization. For example, white, cisgender gay men may experience less stigma and gain more social acceptance than transgender people or LGBTQ+ people of color. This uneven distri-bution of power can foster resentment, with those at the intersections of multiple oppres-sions feeling excluded or invalidated within the broader LGBTQ+ movement.Additionally, the eects of minority stress—a term describing the chronic stress faced by marginalized communities—can manifest in harmful interpersonal dynamics. LGBTQ+ in-dividuals oen internalize the discrimination they face in society, which can lead to feel-ings of shame, self-doubt, or insecurity. These emotions, when unaddressed, can sometimes turn outward, manifesting as hostility or judg-ment toward others in the community. It is not uncommon to witness forms of gatekeeping or exclusionary behavior, where individuals police each other’s identities or experienc-es in an eort to establish their own sense of belonging. For instance, bisexual individuals may be told they are “not queer enough” or accused of benefiting from straight-passing privilege, while transgender and nonbinary individuals can face misunderstanding or era-sure even within LGBTQ+ spaces.Internalized homophobia and transphobia also play a significant role in fostering toxic-ity. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, growing up in a heteronormative and cisnormative society meant internalizing negative beliefs about their own identities. Even aer coming out, some individuals struggle with linger-ing feelings of discomfort or disdain toward themselves or others who visibly express their LGBTQ+ identity. This can lead to behaviors like shaming those who are more flamboyant or dismissing the experiences of transgender or gender-nonconforming individuals. By sidelining DEI, companies risk alienating the very talent and consumer bases they need to thrive in an in-creasingly diverse world.Additionally, younger generations of workers and consumers, who place a high value on inclusivity and social justice, may turn away from businesses that are seen as regressive or indierent to these values. In the end, the rollback of DEI initiatives re-flects a broader tension within corporate America: the clash between short-term pres-sures and long-term vision. While scaling back DEI may provide immediate political or finan-cial relief, it undermines the progress made toward creating equitable workplaces and erodes trust in corporate commitments to so-cial justice. As the U.S. becomes more diverse, the companies that succeed will be those that view DEI not as a luxury, but as a necessity for future growth and innovation. MA Corporate Retreat From DEI Continuedstandards, by themselves and by others, to prove they are worthy of acceptance. This can lead to a sense of competition or comparison, with individuals feeling the need to criticize others who they believe reflect poorly on the community. This might take the form of sham-ing someone’s appearance, gender expres-sion, or lifestyle choices. In this dynamic, peo-ple may police others' behaviors, fearing that deviating from a perceived norm could harm the collective struggle for rights and equality.Additionally, the digital age has exacerbated these tensions. Social media, while vital for inclusion, has also become a breeding ground for toxic behavior. Online platforms oen am-plify judgment and exclusion, with people feeling emboldened to criticize others from behind the safety of a screen. This can result in harsh, unfiltered comments about someone's identity, choices, or appearance, deepening divisions within the community. However, it’s essential to recognize that de-spite these tensions, the majority of LGBTQ+ individuals remain deeply committed to fos-tering solidarity and inclusivity. Eorts are continually being made to address these is-sues, whether through community-building initiatives, mental health support, or inten-tional conversations about privilege and inter-sectionality. It is crucial to acknowledge the pain caused by both external discrimination and internal strife while also working to create spaces that are airming and compassionate for all LGBTQ+ individuals. To conclude, the toxicity within the LGBTQ+ community is not inevitable, but it is a re-flection of the broader societal forces that shape the lives of marginalized people. By addressing issues of privilege, internalized op-pression, and the pressure of perfection, the LGBTQ+ community can work toward healing these divisions and building a more inclusive movement. CUCULTURE 41 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025CULTURECORSICANAen Pisano’s musical project, Corsicana, marked its 10th anniversary in 2024, celebrating a decade of growth, evolution, and emotional depth in Denver’s indie music scene. From its humble beginnings as a bed-room recording project in 2014 to becoming a staple of the Colorado music landscape, Corsicana has been a deeply personal outlet for Pisano, allowing him to explore themes of nostalgia, introspection, and emotional tur-bulence.Pisano launched Corsicana when he was just a teenager, experimenting with ambient rock and dream-pop soundscapes. His early work reflected an intrinsic connection to DIY recording, allowing him to cra deeply lay-ered, atmospheric music that encapsulated his inner world. This unique sound, combin-ing acoustic guitar, electronic textures, and delicate vocals, drew comparisons to artists like Bon Iver and The Antlers, two of Pisano’s stated influences.Corsicana’s debut album, Haven (2016), was a breakthrough for Pisano, who produced and played every instrument on the record. Ha-ven is notable for its expansive songs, some stretching over seven minutes, that envelop the listener in a dreamy, almost cinematic experience. Pisano has described the LP as a “concept album,” with each track contrib-uting to a broader emotional narrative. The ambient, meditative quality of the record, combined with its introspective lyrics, solid-ified Corsicana as a distinct voice in Denver’s indie music scene. As Corsicana continued to grow, Pisano em-braced the live performance circuit, opening for acts such as Devotchka, Hippo Campus, and Deep Sea Diver. These live performanc-es allowed him to share the cathartic and reflective energy of his music with larger audiences, helping Corsicana gain recogni-tion beyond the Denver area. Over the years, Corsicana has toured the West Coast sever-al times, bringing Pisano’s carefully craed soundscapes to new listeners and cementing his reputation as a talented and introspective artist. The release of Kept in 2023 marked another major milestone for Pisano. This album, Cor-sicana’s third full-length, reflected the emo-tional arc of Pisano’s early adulthood, captur-ing the nostalgia and complexity of growing up. Much of Kept was recorded in Pisano’s childhood home, a setting that infused the album with a deep sense of personal history and reflection. The 11-track album began as a series of voice memos and evolved into a cohesive narrative of emotional recovery and self-discovery. Looking back over the past decade, Corsi-cana’s music has consistently centered on personal growth, emotional complexity, and the desire to connect with listeners on a deep-ly human level. Pisano’s ability to balance delicate, introspective songwriting with ex-pansive, dreamlike production has made Cor-sicana a standout in the Denver indie scene, and his journey over the last 10 years reflects both his artistic evolution and his dedication to craing meaningful, cathartic music. As Corsicana enters its next decade, Pisano shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to push the boundaries of his sound while re-maining grounded in the emotional honesty that has defined his music from the start. Founded by college roommates Tess and Rylee, along with their friend Cameron, the band began as a modest project, playing small coee shop and open mic gigs around the University of Denver (DU.) Through this grassroots start, they cultivated an intimate connection with their audience, ultimately evolving into a Denver club scene favorite. Their ascent in the city’s music landscape has been marked by their dedication to ex-ploring sound, blending genres, and refining their unique aesthetic—a commitment that sets them apart from many emerging bands.Their early gigs may have been humble, but they laid a strong foundation for the band’s philosophy and identity, enabling Blank-slate to experiment with sound in an organ-ic, low-pressure environment. Performing regularly allowed them to hone their stage presence and build a dedicated fan base, one that was drawn not only to their music but also to the au-thenticity of their journey. For Tess, Rylee, and Cameron, these experi-ences nurtured a belief that music is more than a performance—it’s a means of self-expression and transformation. In 2020, Blankslate released their debut EP, {thursday}, a bold first step that hinted at their potential and set the stage for their first full-length album, Summer on a Salt Flat. Released on October 28, 2022, this album was both a crit-ical and artistic milestone, encapsulating the band’s vision of transformation. The work is an intricate blend of folk, grunge, and classic rock, woven with diaristic, referential lyrics that tell stories of growth, experience, and the human condition. Tess, Rylee, and Cameron oer raw, relatable lyrics and melodies that create a nos-talgic yet innovative listening experience. Each song captures the essence of the trio’s lives, em-bedding the experiences of three young artists navigating the post-college world and exploring their identities through sound and storytelling.Currently, Blankslate is working on their third album, Lookout Mountain Charley, a project that aims to further solidify their voice in the Denver music scene and beyond. The album is expected to be another exploration of the band’s thematic dedication to transformation—a concept Tess, Rylee, and Cameron see as central to both their individual identities and the collective ethos of Blankslate. This commitment to the “possibility to become” reflects in their genre-bending com-positions, creating a sound tapestry that draws audiences into a world that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. This new project promises to be a continuation of Blank-slate’s journey, likely reaching deeper into their themes of self-discovery and reinvention.By defying genre constraints and embracing a narrative-driven approach, Blankslate has es-tablished itself as a band that connects through storytelling and raw musicality. With each al-bum, they deepen their identity, captivating lis-teners and furthering their belief in the endless possibilities of transformation and self-expres-sion. 46 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com CULTURECUonathan is a multifaceted artist whose work exists in a dy-namic tension between apocalyptic foreboding and utopi-an ideals. His art addresses the human condition’s eternal duality, exploring both realized dreams and those le unful-filled. Jonathan's creations are infused with stream-of-con-sciousness mysticism and a thought-provoking dose of so-cial commentary. His portfolio includes miniature paintings encased in glossy acrylic tiles, intricate drawings, sculp-tures, full-gallery installations, and even digital NFTs, each piece craed with the same sharp introspection.Jonathan describes his work as “glossy, candy-coated vi-sual narratives imbued with existential dread.” This phrase captures the heart of his artistic approach, which couples vibrant, almost playful aesthetics with layers of deeper meaning. Behind his vividly colored surfaces lies a profound exploration of social and spiritual upheaval, as well as a fascination with humanity’s irreverent optimism, even in the face of uncertain and darker futures. Though darkness permeates some of his work, Jonathan balances it with el-ements of playfulness, joy, and an undeniable generosity.Perhaps his most celebrated piece is #WhatisUtopia, a mon-umental installation unveiled in the Fall of 2019 at the Den-ver Museum of Art. The project featured a colossal column adorned with 10,000 tiny, mixed-media paintings—each unique, each a fragment of a larger narrative about human ideals and aspirations. At the exhibit’s conclusion, Jonathan gied all 10,000 miniatures to the public, embodying his commitment to making art accessible and communal.Jonathan’s education at Parsons School of Design in NYC and Paris, as well as the Maryland Institute College of Art, laid the foundation for his distinctive artistic voice. His ca-reer includes an artist residency at Denver’s Redline and a stint as a visiting artist at the American School of Paris. His talents also extend into illustration, with his best-selling Fountain Tarot published in multiple languages, and a chil-dren's book, Colorfully Courageous, commissioned by the Clyord Still Museum.Recognized in publications like Juxtapoz Magazine, Elle Decor, and Veranda, Jonathan has established himself as a contemporary artist who wields his creativity to explore the spectrum of human experience. His work resonates as a col-orful yet contemplative examination of both the beauty and complexity of life’s endless push and pull. 48 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com CULTURECUike Broemmel contemplated taking his own life sitting in The White House bathroom sharpening a wooden pencil checking the point on his wrist until a provoking idea crossed his mind. Broem-mel scribbled his ideas down on the toilet paper roll next to him, and soon aer that his life drastically changed. Mike Broemmel is more than a playwright; he is an inspiring activist and cultured artist unrav-eling historic events and bringing forth the truth of the past.Twenty-five years ago, Broemmel identified as a Republican working alongside members of President Ronald Regan’s Media Relations. As Broemmel shied from a career in the government into the world of the arts, his focus also shied to writing about misunderstood and mis-interpreted people of history. When asked if he ever writes about his own life or personal experiences, Broemmel replied, “No. I never write about my own life. I may fill in the gaps with a few personal touches, but they’re just tid-bits as additions to the story.” Broemmel is not the only person who has been treated poorly by the media and organized groups, so his emotional connection to his writing stems from the re-search of other people’s lives. The transition to writing started o with a collection of short fiction. Wanting to pursue something at a larger scale, Broemmel wrote The Baptism: a three-act play centering on a young woman with a new baby. Out of curiosity, the question provoked why Broemmel focuses on women. Identifying as a white gay man, Broemmel said, “I have re-ceived death threats, hate mail, and have been called a ‘racist’ and ‘fe-male hater’ in my career. But out of spite, that’s where the motivation comes in to write what I am passionate about.” Broemmel explained how the women he chooses to write about are women with untold stories where history has, correctly and incorrectly, recorded famous events. The Unreachable Star is the play Broemmel engaged about the most. His enthusiastic energy and appealing charisma about this play really came to life as he explained who Connie Francis is; a bubblegum pop singer of 1950s-1960s with so much talent and beauty that the world only saw her for her fame. Broemmel played the song “The Impossi-ble Dream” on repeat at 3am because he was unable to sleep, and the lyrics moved him in a way that he could not quite put into words. The more Broemmel researched Francis’ life and was able to talk to some of her family members, the more he explored writing about women for their braveness, sheer talent, and eminence of it all. Broemmel hopes to have The Unreachable Star premier in Florida in 2025 where Connie Francis still resides. As he discussed previous work, Broemmel also lit up about his upcom-ing work from now through next year. Premiering first is the play The Wind is Us: The Death that Killed Capote. This play focuses on the life The Impossible Dream Mike Broemmelm I HAVE RECEIVED DEATH THREATS, HATE MAIL, AND HAVE BEEN CALLED A ‘RACIST’ AND ‘FEMALE HATER’ IN MY CAREER. BUT OUT OF SPITE, THAT’S WHERE THE MOTIVATION COMES IN TO WRITE WHAT I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT. CUPLAYWRIGHT
49 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025CULTURECUWords: Tayler Smith, Artwork Provide Mike BroemmelCUof author Truman Capote while researching his iconic novel In Cold Blood. Broemmel de-scribes this play as, “the tensionbetween desire for fame and for love; perhaps even the tension between the need for fame and the need for love.” The Wind is Us: The Death that Killed Capote appeared in the Sali-da Theatre Festival this year and now is head-ed to an o-Broadway showing at the Theatre Row in New York City. In its sixth year, Taking Tea with The Ripper is another of Broemmel’s plays focusing in on one of the most infamous serial killers of all time, Jack the Ripper. This interlude with a killer takes the audience through the night in which the Ripper slays his first victim, bring-ing them face-to-face with pure evil and un-mitigated insanity. Broemmel will jump back into the scene of historic women with the play Queen of the Painted Sisterhood, which, as he described, is “a play [that] tells the story of an incredibly unique woman, Mattie Silks, who lived in the era commonly known as the Old West. Mattie was a leading, if not the leading, ‘madame’ of Colorado bordellos.” Rehearsals for Queen of the Painted Sisterhood will begin in January and premier in March of 2025. As we all enter a new year soon, keep an eye out for When Strawberries Bloom: The Cre-ation of Golda Meir. This production will focus on Golda Meir, the former prime minister of Isreal. From early childhood in the Russian Empire to world leader, Golda Meir attended North High in Denver during her high school education. Broemmel highlighted the dii-culties in writing this play due to “the human suering. Particularly suering inflicted on humans by humans. It was a tough play to write.” When Strawberries Bloom: The Cre-ation of Golda Meir is planned to show in May of 2025 at the Historic Elitch Theatre. As the new year wraps up, Brommel is eager about Witness: The Story of Virginia Hill which will be premiering in Las Vegas. This will be the perfect venue and environment to emu-late the true story of Virginia Hill because, as Brommel explained, “is a story of a woman who should be classified as the first woman mobster in the United States. Hill was so over-looked when it comes to organized crime, [especially] in the founding of Las Vegas.” Wit-ness: The Story of Virginia Hill has been a long time coming with three more plays (that Bro-emmel is currently writing) and each month will premiere one of the plays for an evening each week for four weeks. As next year ends with a bang in Las Vegas, Broemmel will continue to write plays that in-spire others. Though a roll of toilet paper may still be a great place to jot ideas down, Bro-emmel will sharpen his pencil to shed light on people of the past to help shape and chal-lenge new perspectives of today. 59 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025FEATUREFTver the past two decades, the United States has seen re-markable progress in the recognition and protection of LGBTQ rights. From landmark Supreme Court decisions to broader cultural acceptance, this progress reflects the resil-ience and advocacy of a community long marginalized but unwavering in its pursuit of equality. However, as the country prepares for a second term under the Trump administration, fears of legal backsliding and institutional roadblocks loom large. These challenges underscore the importance of re-membering the LGBTQ community’s history of resilience and the power of collective action. The Arc of Progress: Two Decades of Legal WinsThe fight for LGBTQ equality entered a transformative era in 2003 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down sodomy laws in Lawrence v. Texas. This decision invalidated state laws that criminalized same-sex relationships and laid a critical foundation for future legal battles. Justice Anthony Kennedy’s majority opinion not only decriminalized love but also airmed the dignity and privacy of LGBTQ individuals, setting a precedent for future victories. In 2010, the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ended a policy that had forced LGBTQ service members to hide their iden-tities or face discharge. The repeal was a landmark moment for LGBTQ Americans in the military, symbolizing their right to serve openly and without fear. The crowning achievement of this era of progress came in 2015 with the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. By declaring that the Constitution guarantees the right to marry for same-sex couples, the Court cement-ed marriage equality as the law of the land. For millions of LGBTQ Americans, this was not just a legal triumph but a deeply personal one, validating their love and families in the eyes of the nation.Beyond federal rulings, states made strides as well. Anti-dis-crimination laws protecting LGBTQ people in housing, em-ployment, and public accommodations expanded across the country. Gender identity protections grew alongside those based on sexual orientation, reflecting a broader under-standing of the community’s diversity. In 2020, another landmark decision, Bostock v. Clayton Coun-ty, extended workplace protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to LGBTQ individuals. The Court ruled that firing someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity constituted sex discrimination, a decision hailed as a major step toward equality in the workplace.Progress Meets Resistance: The Challenges AheadDespite these significant gains, LGBTQ rights remain a po-litical battleground. 60 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com FEATUREFTistration took a series of steps to roll back protections for LGBTQ individuals, signaling an ongoing clash over the community's rights.Under Trump, the Department of Justice frequently ar-gued against LGBTQ rights in court cases, including op-posing protections under Title VII. The administration also rolled back health care protections for transgender individuals under the Aordable Care Act and reinstated a ban on transgender individuals serving openly in the military. These policies fueled concern that further erosions could follow, especially if the administration is bolstered by ad-ditional Supreme Court appointments. With a conserva-tive-leaning Court, challenges to marriage equality, work-place protections, and anti-discrimination laws could gain traction, threatening to undo decades of progress.State legislatures have also become battlegrounds. Bills targeting transgender youth—such as restrictions on gen-der-airming care and bans on participation in sports—have proliferated. These eorts, oen framed as pro-tecting children, exacerbate stigma and marginalization, undermining the mental health and well-being of trans-gender youth. The Trump administration’s broader approach to civil rights enforcement also raises concerns. By limiting the scope of federal agencies in addressing discrimination and prioritizing religious liberty over LGBTQ rights, a sec-ond term could embolden organizations seeking exemp-tions from anti-discrimination laws.Furthermore, the broader cultural climate has grown increasingly polarized. The rise of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, coupled with increased attacks on queer spaces and indi-viduals, highlights the intersection of legal challenges and social hostility. These pressures create an urgent need for renewed advocacy and vigilance.Resilience in the Face of AdversityWhile the road ahead may be fraught with challenges, the LGBTQ community has a long history of resilience and re-sistance. From the Stonewall Riots of 1969 to the ongoing fight for transgender rights, LGBTQ Americans have con-tinually demonstrated their ability to organize, advocate, and demand change. The Stonewall uprising in New York City marked a turning point in LGBTQ activism, giving rise to organizations like the Gay Liberation Front and, later, Pride parades around the world. This defiance against police brutality and soci-etal rejection laid the groundwork for the modern LGBTQ rights movement. The HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s was another crucible of resilience. Faced with a government that was slow to respond, LGBTQ activists mobilized to care for the sick, advocate for research funding, and demand policy FT

Organizations like ACT UP and the Gay Men’s Health Crisis emerged as life-lines and catalysts for change, saving countless lives and shiing public perception. In recent years, younger generations of activists have continued this legacy, oen using social media to amplify voices and organize around pressing issues. Black Lives Matter protests have intersected with LGBTQ advocacy, highlighting the im-portance of addressing racism and transphobia within the broader movement.Legal setbacks and political opposition have always been part of the LGBTQ com-munity’s journey, but history shows that progress is rarely linear. Grassroots ac-tivism, community solidarity, and strategic litigation have proven eective in over-coming even the most daunting challenges. The Fight ContinuesThe legal progress of the last two decades has been transformative, airming the humanity and dignity of millions of LGBTQ Americans. Yet, as the nation grapples with deep political divides, the rights of LGBTQ individuals remain vulnerable to attack.A second Trump administration underscores the need for vigilance and advocacy, but it also oers an opportunity for the LGBTQ community and its allies to reairm their commitment to equality. Whether through legal challenges, legislative advo-cacy, or cultural change, the fight for LGBTQ rights is far from over.History oers a powerful lesson: the LGBTQ community has faced adversity before and emerged stronger. The resilience forged through decades of struggle is a testa-ment to the strength and determination of a community that refuses to be silenced. 63 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025FEATUREFTIn 2004, the internet was a burgeoning space of curiosity, with platforms like MySpace at the forefront and Facebook only just begin-ning. Nearly two decades later, the internet has become a central hub for exploring the most personal and complex questions we face, including those around sexual orientation. In particular, Google searches for “Am I gay?” have risen by 1,300% over this period, reflect-ing a deep and growing quest for self-under-standing that’s intertwined with significant societal change. The surge in identity-related searches like “Am I gay?” mirrors shis in cultural acceptance, visibility, and technological accessibility. So-cial norms have evolved dramatically, with increasing acceptance of LGBTQ+ identities. Today, public figures openly embrace diverse sexual orientations, media representation is broadening, and societal stigma is gradually liing. This transformation is perhaps most visible in the younger generation, Gen Z, who is redefining what it means to explore and ex-press one’s identity. The internet’s role in shaping identity explo-ration is profound. In past decades, personal questions about sexual orientation or gender were oen limited to private reflections or rare conversations with close friends, oen fraught with fear of judgment. The advent of Google and other search engines changed this dy-namic, oering a space for anonymous, judg-ment-free inquiry. For many, typing “Am I gay?” into a search bar has become the first step to-ward understanding an aspect of themselves they might have hesitated to explore openly. This trend also speaks to the power of ano-nymity. Online, individuals can seek answers to personal questions without fear of expo-sure, which can be especially important in unsupportive environments. Google, in this sense, becomes a safe haven, oering resourc-es, forums, and even quizzes that help people begin to understand their feelings. This ini-tial step can be life-changing, particularly for those who may lack supportive figures in their immediate surroundings. However, with this growing reliance on the internet for self-discovery comes both op-portunity and risk. While many websites oer supportive, factual information, others may perpetuate stereotypes or misinformation that could hinder one’s journey. Navigating this mix of content requires discernment, and highlights the importance of accessible, cred-ible resources that support healthy self-explo-ration.The evolving landscape of identity is particu-larly evident within Generation Z, where near-Exploring Identityin the Digital AgeTHE SURGE IN LGBTQ+ SELF-SEARCHES AND THE ROLE OF GEN Z IN SHAPING SOCIAL NORMSEXPLORING IDENTITYAm I Gay?IIIIIIWords: David Radino, Images: Adobe StockExploring Identityin the Digital AgeFT
64 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com FEATUREFTly 30% of U.S. adults identify as LGBTQ, ac-cording to a recent Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) report. This openness goes beyond traditional categories like “gay” or “lesbian,” with many identifying as bisexual, pansexual, non-binary, or genderqueer. Gen Z’s willingness to question rigid labels rep-resents a broader understanding of identity as a spectrum, a shi that reflects increased inclusivity and visibility within media and ed-ucation.A key finding in the PRRI report is the high percentage of Gen Z LGBTQ+ individuals who identify as bisexual. Historically marginal-ized within both LGBTQ+ and mainstream communities, bisexual individuals have oen faced stereotypes portraying them as “con-fused” or “indecisive.” Today’s generation, however, embraces fluidity and non-binary conceptions of identity, helping dismantle these myths and validating bisexuality as a legitimate orientation.Alongside sexual orientation, gender identity is also diversifying. More Gen Z individuals identify as non-binary or genderqueer, em-bracing non-gendered pronouns like “they/them.” This shi has influenced policies in schools and workplaces, as institutions work to respect pronoun preferences and foster inclusive environments. The normalization of non-binary identities in particular signals a broader rethinking of traditional gender constructs and an acceptance of personal freedom in how one defines oneself. In the past, LGBTQ+ individuals were large-ly absent from mainstream media, leaving many to navigate their identities in isolation. Today, representation has grown, with more TV shows, movies, and social media influenc-ers openly embracing and portraying diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. High-profile figures coming out publicly and Pride celebrations held globally serve as re-minders of the progress that has been made. They oer solidarity and encourage individ-uals to question or embrace their identities without fear of societal rejection. This visibility provides both validation and a road map for those questioning their own identities. The prevalence of relatable LGBTQ+ characters in media and the open-ness of celebrities to discuss their journeys encourages individuals to take similar steps, oen beginning with a simple internet search. For Gen Z, who has grown up with this visibil-ity, identity exploration has become less in-timidating and more empowering, helping to normalize the process. While greater social acceptance and visibil-ity have fostered self-exploration, they do not eliminate the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly around mental health. Research shows that LGBTQ+ youth oen experience higher rates of de-pression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, driv-en by discrimination and social pressures. Bisexual individuals, in particular, report feeling marginalized within both heterosexu-al and LGBTQ+ communities, leading to ele-vated mental health risks. The internet can serve as both a sanctuary and a source of distress. For some, finding supportive online communities can allevi-ate isolation, while others may encounter content that fuels self-doubt or insecurity. FT
65 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025FEATUREFTThis underscores the need for real-world resources and professional mental health support to complement the initial online exploration. Schools, healthcare providers, and LGBTQ+ organizations can pro-vide safe spaces where individuals feel supported beyond their vir-tual communities. As Gen Z comes of age, their values are reshaping not only cultural but also political landscapes. This generation, with its high level of LGBTQ+ representation, tends to support policies that protect and upli marginalized groups. Many Gen Z voters advocate for racial equality, gender rights, and inclusive policies, and as they gain more influence, their commitment to diversity and inclusion is likely to impact future legislative agendas. Their push for broader LGBTQ+ protections and policies that respect non-binary and transgender individuals reflects a gen-erational commitment to creating a world that values personal authenticity. The influence of Gen Z extends into business and media as well. Companies, recognizing the importance of inclusivity to this demographic, increasingly feature LGBTQ+ characters, sto-rylines, and campaigns that reflect a diversity of identities. For Gen Z, authenticity in representation is not merely preferred but expected, indicating that diversity in media and marketing is likely to become a standard rather than an exception. The 1,300% increase in identity-related Google searches since 2004 underscores a significant cultural shi. People are no longer content to suppress or ignore questions about their identity; they are now empowered to seek answers. The internet, with Google as an entry point, facilitates this process, allowing individuals to initiate their journeys toward self-acceptance or coming out in private, safe, and oen anonymous ways. For educators, policymakers, and mental health professionals, this trend highlights the importance of providing accessible, accurate, and supportive resources. Schools have an opportunity to in-corporate comprehensive gender and sexuality education, reducing the intimidation and stigma students may feel. Healthcare providers are increasingly called upon to sup-port individuals navigating these questions, fostering resilience and self-acceptance.As we move forward, understanding and supporting these evolving identity questions will be crucial to fos-tering a society that values diversity, inclusivity, and personal freedom. The internet, particularly Google, plays a key role in facilitating identity exploration, but ensuring that this exploration is supported by real-world resources and communities is equally important. The surge in these searches reflects a society that is gradually embracing the idea that people should live authentically and that questioning one’s iden-tity is a valid and courageous step toward self-discovery. The contin-ued work toward inclusivity will ensure that future generations feel empowered to explore, question, and ultimately embrace who they truly are. Inspired by video games, the book featured an interactive companion comic book app that garnered hundreds of thousands of downloads. Leveraging his business acumen, the project was a successful, award-winning venture. His storytelling endeavors eventually earned him the title of Denver Post #1 bestseller and a Colorado Book Award winner, as well as the owner of his first publishing company, Hex Publishers. Aer Hex successfully launched, Viola and his long-term friend of thirteen years, musician Klayton Celldweller, started their own multimedia company called Bit Bot Media. 70 WINTER 2024-2025 | metromodemagazine.com FEATUREFTViola shared that it is set in the ‘80s and features queer characters. Since Wilson does not identify as part of the LGBTQ community, he sought Viola’s help in developing authentic LGBTQ characters for their narrative. Viola and his Bit Bot team are working on merchandise project featuring masks from characters in the hit Cana-dian film Hundreds of Beavers. Following that, The Wrap recently revealed Bit Bot’s upcoming release of a Rocky Horror Show video game adaptation, which will be avail-able on PC and all major gaming consoles.Viola has collaborated with the original scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis. Along with a host of other ce-lebrities—including R.L. Stine, Devon Sawa, GWAR, Triv-ium’s Matt Heafy, Slash, Barbara Crampton, and Jerey Combs—Curtis granted Viola permission to oicially fea-ture her likenesses in his hit slasher comedy comic book series, True Believers, which he co-wrote with New York Times bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones. In October, Bit Bot launched oicially licensed appar-el from The Terminator and Evil Dead 2 franchises. Fans can look forward to all-over print hoodies, retro-style art shirts, and much more, as top artists have been con-tracted to bring these iconic films to life through exclusive merchandise. When asked why he is such a fan of genre fiction, especial-ly sci-fi, Viola said, “Science fiction serves as a reflection of our present, oering commentary on current societal issues while oen providing a glimpse—and sometimes a warning—of what the future may hold.” He elaborated how sci-fi is more than just cybernetic beings and dynam-ic, futuristic worlds; it is a space to explore current chal-lenges and speculate on where humanity might lead us. Similarly, genre fiction like dark fantasy and horror taps into our primal fears and moral dilemmas, using the su-pernatural to reflect deeper truths about ourselves and the world around us. This is why Viola was thrilled to work on the new Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver graphic novel, which he just launched on Kickstarter and raised over $1.3 million, making it the #5 most-funded graphic nov-el project of all time on Kickstarter, just two spots under Keanu Reeve’s BRZRKR series. For those unfamiliar, The Legacy of Kain franchise is a dark, atmospheric series of five video games that ex-plores themes of destiny, free will, and betrayal, following a fallen vampire as he navigates a twisted world of an-cient prophecies, time travel, and moral ambiguity. Vio-la’s Soul Reaver graphic novel is being developed as we speak, with fulfillment beginning in May 2025. The graphic novel is written by Viola and Angie Hodapp (who is also a local Denver writer), illustrated by Juan Samu, and in-cludes contributions by many talented creatives who have worked on projects such as Star Wars, Transformers, Magic: The Gathering, and The Walking Dead. The Bit Bot team is also developing unique ancillary merchandise for the project, including a vinyl soundtrack by Celldweller, a three-foot replica of the Reaver sword from the games, and high-end latex masks of the characters Raziel and Kain.Viola credits friend and colleague Brent Friedman for helping him kickstart what has quickly become his dream project. Friedman, who recommended Viola for the Soul Reaver gig, has been providing narrative guidance for numerous big IP, including Star Wars, Call of Duty, Halo and more. SNSCENE 89 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025BAR & NIGHTCLUB“I’m driving the Land Rover tonight.. no shot rule is in eect. However, I could always get my car tomorrow morning.” This is what Agent 6 says seven nights out of seven on the way to Denver Sweet. I simply smile and nod. Flash-forward to two drinks later and our heads tossed back with shots of TUACA and Apple Pucker going down our throats like we’re Betty Ford on a bender. Not long after, there we are, back into Chad’s bar line. Watching him pour four strong liquors into my glass makes my knees knock. Agent 6 does business at the rooftop bar where Brian greets him with, “A vodka and seven Mr. 6?” Thank the maker, I’m downstairs and don’t have to witness that awkward moment when Brian ashes his smile and leans on the bar and Agent 6 blushes like a boy discovering porn for the rst time. With our drinks relled and our livers screaming, “Please Stop!” –I make my way to the rooftop where Agent 6 indulges in a tobacco treat. Usually, there is some young but legal boy out there and Agent 6 notices him right off. I roll my eyes because I roll them so much in my dear friend’s company, that’s really all they know how to do anymore. For the both of us, it’s hard trying to talk to someone when you’re focused on standing upright without staggering and swaying. Case in point, there was this hot guy there last night with which I fancy. He came over and started to talk with me. I saw him talking, his mouth was moving but I have no idea what he said. All I know is, I was trying not to spit my drink all over his face. Just then the boys from station eight come blaring down the street from the opposite direction. Either someone is really hurt, or they want some attention. How about a little bit of column “A” and a little bit of column “B.” Yes, someone is deathly ill across the street and the reghters unload to help this pour soul, or fortunate soul, depending on your point of view. Of course, we all cheer and holler and whistle. One reghter even stops and points to the one we’re cat calling. Those reghters were so hot we wanted to spray our hoses on them.. water-sports pun not intended.Once the reghters have left, Agent 6 decides he’s done with sex. I laugh! Not even a full ten seconds later he’s scoping out some guy. When he looks back at me, he’s playfully chewing on his straw and yes, I roll my eyes. Suddenly I hear a sucking sound coming from my straw. I have reached bottom. Time for Long Island number eight. Agent 6 yells, “Jager shots!” Amazing that no one disagrees. We all troop to the bar and have yet another shot. I love the no shot rule, especially when it’s in effect. We’ve now reached the point in the evening when the steps to the lower level get a little tricky and sometimes you unexpectedly slide down them on your butt. I swear those steps are out to get you and your drink too!Agent 6 and I have realized that after eleven Vodka-seven’s, twelve Long Island Iced Teas and four shots and a glass of beer its time to walk home. Some very happy bartenders though and when I say very happy, I mean they love it when we pay their rent. Another night of satised customers thanks to Denver Sweet. Job well done! FMFM 93 metromodemagazine.com | WINTER 2024-2025FMmong its many vibrant features, Fashion Mode has carved out a special legacy. This section of the magazine transcends mere aesthetics, be-coming a platform where art, identity, and activ-ism intersect, showcasing the LGBTQ community’s profound contributions to the world of fashion and culture.Fashion Mode came about during a time when queer representation in mainstream media was scarce. Boldly breaking barriers, the section brings attention to LGBTQ designers, stylists, and models, many of whom found their first taste of recognition within these glossy pages. By weaving narratives of identity into its fashion spreads, it humanized the oen-overlooked stories behind the seams, oer-ing a celebration of self-expression that was as po-litical as it was personal.Colorado’s LGBTQ community has long been a force of innovation and creativity, shaping the local fash-ion scene in remarkable ways. Within Metromode’s Fashion Mode section, many clothing stores in Col-orado have taken center stage as pillars of style and self-expression. These boutiques have been more than just shopping destinations; they’ve been safe spaces where fashion meets identity.
